Really depends on Joe, he told me to expect up to 15 days for install if he doesn't have much in front of me. If it was not for work and losing access to the lift I always used, I would be spending all weekend and be done with it myself. But with Joes install I know he will do a good job and I will have a running car with a dyno plot in hand when I pick it up, so it works out I guess. I am just not a very patient person.
Some time next year after caging and all, I will be taking it back to him for a built 2.5 swap if all works out. I have some other small items that need to be taken care of first. |

What year is your NC? I was at his shop last Friday, so did I see your car there? You are going to run the stock 2.0 until you blow it up and then go for a 2.5?
I will be running the stocker for a bit, I hope to God I don't pop it, would really rather not risk such a pricey turbo while pushing the motor, as a new turbo is about half the cost of the built 2.5, I would kick myself for such a stupid waist of money. Trying to figure out drive train options before I go with the 2.5, as I have the 5spd, already swapped in an O.S. Giken LSD, I just need to figure out the transmission, end goal is 400+. |
Well, if it's 15 days out, then I'll (hopefully!) still beat you to the punch then :) At the outset, I'm running identical setup to FAB's car, so I requested the tune from Joe and offered the suggestion to simply copy-pasta if it makes sense.
I'm hoping to get it on all four tires at the end of this coming weekend. We shall see... |
I hope its only a week out (the bottom side of his estimate), or less, maybe he had time to tear it down and get it ready ahead of time? Yeah...being wishful here. If I was not working the weekend I would drive over there and help get it ready.

Sheeeit, for 11k I might sign up for the Quaife.
In two or three years. :likecat: |
Well, they have 4 kits for the NA/NB, using their G60 trans, more or less just like the G69 but only rated for 375ft/lb. Those, for a drop in trans are around 9k, they said cost of trans plus about 2k for the custom bellhousing and custom propshaft as the G69 uses a flange. So I assumed worst case 10-11k. I could do that in a year, but I would have to put off moving and buying a house by the start of next year along with other planned mods like the cage etc etc.
Even fully custom setup, the T56 would be the far cheaper option, the T56 it self is super cheap, even built ones, and other than the custom work for the PPF and the adapter, there is not much added cost. |
If you are going to a huge ass transmission like a T56, just put a LS in front of it...
Oh and I did see your car at Joe's. It looks like it will be a great car! |

Oh and I did see your car at Joe's. It looks like it will be a great car! Thanks! It has alot of work ahead, once it gets back and I break it in it will be getting repainted, all badges are getting shaved and the front nose pimple will be removed, wheels are getting powder coated back and not just plasti dipped. I have some LX1 seats going in and harnesses, cage, stripping out just about everything, debating on if I will leave the dash and AC or not...It is Texas after all  By the time it's "finished" with whatever trans I get and 2.5, will probably be another 2 years. :burncash: |
You can't run the stock rear end stuff with a T56 (AFAIK) so you have to swap out the rear end, too, and that will add a chunk of weight.
|
Can't think of a single reason you can't. Even if you run another rear end, weight gain to HP gain is nothing, and would actually help weight distribution.

Alright guys - We've been up to our necks in orders this past month. We have yet to officially advertise this kit and orders keep coming in.
3 more kits shipping out this week and in further development we've decided to move forward with a 3" Oval Stainless Tubing exhaust system. This is a bear of a car to put a quality LARGE exhaust on due to the odd bends and factory braces. The round one results were a bit loud for my taste so we're reverting back to a dual tip design. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1462392922 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1462392922 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1462392922 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1462392922 |
Looking good Bryan. Can't wait till I get my 3" from you guys. By dual tip, am I correct in assuming you will be adding a muffler to the system now and not just the resonator? And it will no longer be a single passenger side exit but now a dual tip exit?

More updates - So we're going to have a catted system. The open exhaust causes issues with boost creep. It's only +/- 1 or 2 psi but with this engine and turbo efficiency ~2 psi could mean the end of a stock bottom end.
The exhaust features: - Full tig welded construction - Full stainless material - V Band Assembly - High Flow Cat - Stainless Turbo Flex Pipe - Dual exit and dual wall 3.5" tips that fill the bumper opening perfectly - Round to Oval transitions for ground clearance Sounds incredible and it does this without freeway drone, we are very pleased with the results. But it's not cheap to produce. As this will be the only full 3" system on the market that allows you to keep your under carriage bracing we really didn't have a choice on the materials and quality was a must. Estimated cost +/- $1250 with very little room to cover labor. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1463082104 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1463082104 |
Looks fantastic!

Thanks guys - We've been up to our necks over here!
The exhaust systems just became a bit more difficult to produce. Initially we intended on using our shop NC to jig the first few for a quick turn around time and after the first 5 units were completed and shipped we'd then fabricate a proper jig to keep things accurate. Then, in proper male fashion I couldn't leave things alone and I foolishly upped the boost on our stock 2.0 engine. The first couple of pulls were glorious - nice warm night and the rear wanted to walk out in 2nd and 3rd even with our big drag radials. Tossed a rod through each side of the block very shortly after. We're going to build a 2.5L to get her back on the road but for now we were forced to properly jig these exhaust systems. One has been produced for Nathan and unfortunately I can't toss it in the mail until we have the first 3 completed (hopefully today). I want to verify consistency and repeat-ability. In the spirit of keeping you guys entertained here are some progress shots along with my opportunity to brag that even though I run the business I can still weld  https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464805365 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464805365 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464805365 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1464805365 |
Hey guys, thank you for the kind messages - For those not up to speed, I low sided my R6 over the weekend on a nice sweeping turn. Ate it pretty hard, but with any motorcycle accident I'm happy to have walked away breathing.
Outside of the usual road rash I have a broken collar bone and a number 3 AC separation. From what I understand my collar bone is basically no longer connected and supporting my shoulder. I likely go in for surgery this Thursday and I'm hoping for the fastest recovery possible. Way too much on my plate to start our busy season with one arm. As for the kits, luckily I finished the intercooler welding the day before and they only need to be packed up. I'll keep Joe in the loop since it looks like all 3 are going to his location. |
Damn man, that sucks. Best wishes for a quick recovery.
