With just a wee big bigger budget than y'all.;)

mr_hyde 11-09-2012 01:54 PM

~$250k. Will 949 have that much money on the Tarmac combining all 4 cars, the team, consumables and hardware? We'll have 4x the amount of feet on the podium! :2cents:

$250k is just the basic car. That doesn't include the D/A system probably $80k. Renting TRP a few times, flying an entire team over from Germany a few times. This is a million dollar effort. My guess is you could fit three ILX projects within the cost of the base TT-S RS.

Our budget for everything, four cars, is a fraction of that too.

With enough money thrown at it a CJ-7 could win overall.

Hell yea. Look at the Suzuki Escudo (AKA Geo Tracker here in the States) that slaughtered Pikes Peak for many years.

No one has EVER looked at a geo tracker and thought "THAT would make a great race car!"

 spend what youve spent on whatever project youve been working on, on something like, oh say, a honda crx, and youde have a car that could click off laps faster. Downsides? No drifting, and your front tires wear slightly faster. Big deal...

Emillio, Sonny, Sav, Alex, and everyone else, I wish you guys much luck! I wish I could be there to help out, even if all I did was go on grub runs lol I know! Ill dress my kids up in 949 team colors and we will be team mascots :winner: Ill be following fb the weekend of for updates!

I am interested in the 595 RS-R choice. Can you elaborate a bit on the reasons for that?

joeldc13 11-11-2012 10:55 AM

I am also interested in why you have choosen this tyre, I didn't know that it was available in the US, here in Europe it's becoming quite very popular, very very good grip level, slighly under a R888 in the same dimension but for a fraction of the price (150 euros each R888 vs 70 euros for the federal). In France it's beeing considered like the best cheap trackday tyre for the mx5, not the better one but the best quality/price rate. So I'm a little surprise to see it in a racing environment.

But one thing important, it has quite good longevity, I made more than 10 trackdays with a set of 4 and I think that I can do another one with them, where a R888 don't last me more than 5 trackdays.

In for results as well! I need new tires soon as it is, I would love to see what you have to say about these.

I work and drive for a couple race teams that run high level FWD cars.

I was being sarcastic...

Some video of the Audi TTRS in action. It's built for the German VLN series and the 24hrs. of the Ring, so designed around endurance.

Pretty cool the 25hrs. of Thill is getting a factory-backed effort from Audi. Interesting decision marketing wise, Audi spending a lot of money to send one of these over (car goes back to Germany in March). Probably the rationale is marketing to the European market - "we went to the US to beat Porsche." Means there should be a well-made documentary coming from Audi about the race.

At least six Audi Club SF area HPDE drivers have gotten TTRS's (most of them instructors). They all seem to love it.

What is the "Audi Club SF?" Audi Club San Francisco? Is there a national Audi club similar to PCA (Porsche Club of America) and do they put on HPDEs?

Yep. Welcome to the Audi Club North America

They put on a good show, at least on the East Coast.

I think all the ACNA regions do HPDEs. ACNA Golden Gate does them at Thunderhill, Sonoma and Laguna Seca. Very well run events. Very non-Audi friendly too. BMWs and Porsches and even Miatas are seen. Seven instructors I can think of run Miatas (including me - 2008 Audi A4 Avant still my beloved DD).

worthless wonder

I have helped Navid since it was the 13hr. (I have missed a few years, its cold and usually a rough long night). I just kinda help fill in the missing gaps and rather not have any real title or job.

I would like to drive but driving is expensive just for the equipment. Someday I will find the cash to go on the track (other than driving school years ago). anyone want to sponsor?

I will find you guys on grid, if you need anything fell free to give me a call, text or hunt me down.

Scott
