Default Carbontrix extractor scoop

So I just added one of these this weekend in preparation for the inevitable South Texas summer heat. This is the Carbontrix 18x10 Hood Scoop
http://www.carbontrix.com/store/inde...products_id=91

There was a thread about this way back when
https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...highlight=hood

It only took about two hours start to finish so it is a pretty easy job. I am going to add a few more rivets eventually but it will work fine as-is. The part that take the longest is taping and measuring everything very carefully to make sure it goes on straight and centered. I also made a pattern from cardboard to mark the hole in the hood where I would be cutting. I used a sabre saw and a fine tooth (32 TPI) Bosch metal cutting blade. Pretty easy overall.

Looks pretty good... Make sure to report temperature differences upon running it at the track.

Don't you wish somebody just sold a normal flat miata hood w/o that bubble?

I think the main thing about this is that it is proven to be functional and is quite cheap. Ideally I would want a wider vent with a small raised lip at the front. Similar to what Matt was running on his car... But for the money, you can't beat this setup.

Given the dramatic improvements I saw with the mini cooper scoop, I can't imagine this one won't exceed that. Cheap? I think you're get better performance and carbonfiber for the cost over fiberglass/plastic.

True... This should perform as well as the Mini scoop since it is basically a composite replica of the same part IIRC.

I'll try to do that. As usual though there are a lot of variables involved here that will also impact the coolant/oil temperatures: Addition of a splitter, weather may be a few degrees warmer, new radiator (old one had a leak), etc. etc.

Word. That hump really gets in the way sometimes. I like a good hump as much as the next guy but not in this case.

Yes it will certainly improve radiator air flow and should drop the pressure under the car a bit.

Maybe mine will impregnate yours and they will have babies. Cheap extractor hoods for everyone.

I think it is actually bigger than the cooper scoop.

Actually you are correct... I was going from memory of the thread about this a LONG time ago.

Can you post a picture of the underside? As you know, we are kind of limited on room, and I'm even more so with the taurus fan.

I have this scoop sitting here with the hood in the loft.

I'll snap some pictures this evening and post them up. I looked at that clearance briefly and the underside of the scoop only protrudes down just a bit below the hood braces, like less than 1/2" IIRC.

So I looked at it this evening. The bottom edge of the scoop, the part that protrudes into the engine bay, is no deeper than the ribs on the hood frame.

Yes not bad at all. I think the big tip on this one is, if you use a sabre saw, to be sure to get a fine tooth metal cutting blade. A wood blade will not work well at all and would probably just trash your hood. Obvious, but worth mentioning.

Mine is for sale here on the board for a loss. My hood is coming in for TWS and I don't need it now.
