I finally got around to getting tires mounted on the 15x11's I was shocked at the difference in the 10's vs 11's

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1424479937

Here is the difference a couple years ago when I went from 9's to 10's

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1424479937

This is as far as I got this evening. At least they fit with the car in the air and the fenders on the floor.

Mobius 02-21-2015 12:32 AM

Phat rubber! All the grip.

They will rub a little in all sorts of places but not too bad. biggest rub will be with the spring at ride height or less while turning. 2.25" ID springs offsetting the shock tops to lean the shocks inboard at the top is needed.

That depends on offset.

FrankL 02-21-2015 07:21 AM

I wish we still had some 275s on 9s for a side by side stack comparison. 9s, 10s, 11s.

TNTUBA 02-21-2015 07:59 AM

If I had thought about it I could have done it. I use 15x9's for my rain tires. I could throw a set of junk tires on the 9's and stack them against the 11's....but I sold the 10's and they are packed up and ready to ship.

TNTUBA 02-21-2015 08:00 AM

And at bonus time I'm ordering another set of 15x11's and getting him to make me a matching set of 9's and will sale my 040 9's at that time. I wish 949 had been able to get the 11's to market sooner but I couldn't wait any longer.

The Bogarts were WAYYYY more money than a set of 949's but they also look about 11,000,000 times better and actually are lighter.

Any more offset out and there is serious crash of tire against the firewall. There is a range of offset that produces acceptable amount of tire rub with this setup. It's only about a 5mm range.

Try running some 23.5-10-15 that really come out to 24+ diameter. :crx: Rubs all the things.

Hopefully my 23.5-11-16 wont be as bad. I really don't want to tub my fenders.

TNTUBA 02-23-2015 11:01 AM

Well.....they fit. :)

Canyonfive 02-23-2015 05:58 PM

What inspired you to go 11"? I also think they would be better than 10's but bogarts are $$$. Im curious to hear about how they feel to you on course.

Increased contact patch. Decreased sidewall flex.

those wheels though

Most definitely they work better in terms of grip and brake away characteristics I can attest to that. 245's love being mounted on 10" though.

Sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll

TNTUBA 03-01-2015 04:52 PM

This thing revs faster than any piston engine I have personally been around Taking all that weight out of the valve train and the rotating assembly was...wow. Rings seated while I was breaking in the cam. Compression numbers were 216, 214,212,214.

You can just ever so slightly hear the cams at idle....didn't bump duration enough to make it lope.

90civichhb 03-01-2015 07:09 PM

Wow, great compression numbers. Will you be doing your own tuning or do you have a shop/individual tune your car?

A6s obviously... 11 v 9 one wheel/tire high (not a pair stacked to exaggerate the difference)

Jealous of that lift, sweet setup.

Oh and cool tires too :)

TNTUBA 03-03-2015 02:19 PM

The car is tuned by the team down at DIYAutotune. They are the only guys who have worked on the progression of tunes on this car. They are great to deal with and great at what they do.

I'm really glad that's over. That was one of the more stressful days of my life :)

The cam's didn't do much. You all should probably not consider new cams......especially if you are planning on running SSM.

Did you play with the cam timing on the dyno? Are both cams adjustable?

vintagerust 03-06-2015 08:15 PM

Lol, at the guy in the car, immediately covering his ears, while doing a run.

I typically don't post dyno plots or talk about specific numbers. One of the many things about the car I keep to myself.

We didn't. I provided the cam grinder volumes of data about the car and its use. When they supplied the cams they suggested positions for the intake and exhaust cams which I set up when I built the motor. When I saw the dyno graph the "bump" was exactly where I told them I wanted it. Odd....almost like they designed them that way :) And yes. They are both adjustable.

This cell phone vid really doesn't do justice to how loud that blower is at full song in a dyno cell.

Understandable, when you said it was a stressful day I thought there was more too it that involved a story.

TNTUBA 03-07-2015 11:20 AM

Naaa. Just always stressfu for mel to build a new motor and break it in at 8 grand and 20+ PSI

patsmx5 03-07-2015 11:37 AM

Sweet!!!! Sounds legit on the dyno.

Mobius 03-07-2015 11:49 AM

But, Eric, what kind of mpg are you expecting with these custom cams? I really want to do that, but I don't want to ruin my great cruise mileage. Aren't you concerned at all with possible impacts to your fuel economy?

invest in custom fitted ear protection. theyre worth it over .99$ plugs if you wear them everyday.

This is the only pic I have of the new wheels and top. Gonna go run a local event tomorrow to try and shake it down before Dixie.

TNTUBA 03-09-2015 07:21 AM

So after driving it. I love the way the new wheels feel. The 275 was made for a 15x11 in Autocross form. While not exactly a plug and play solution....they are well worth the money and effort.

90civichhb 03-09-2015 08:23 AM

Looked like you had a few issues on course. I was the guy working grid during your heat.

TNTUBA 03-09-2015 12:38 PM

Yea. First two runs piipes blew off the intercooler. Once one the inlet and once on the discharge. It was a simple case of "oops I forgot to tighten that"

Once I got that square, it ran great.

Lurch 03-09-2015 05:42 PM

It was cool to see it out there yesterday. The traction control was definitely interesting (and seemed very much needed). That thing is retarded fast. Also retarded loud, lol. My friend said 101 db on the meter. Although they still seemed to count that run. I figured it would be a toss up between you and Pilson in the Mustang for FTD.

TNTUBA 03-09-2015 06:47 PM

LOL Yea. On that surface the car would be borderline undrivable without it. I love it when people come up to me and say "Why is your car missing"

Oh...it was that loud? I didn't realize that. Nobody said anything to me.

Yea, I should have been FTD by a couple seconds. (I beat the Mustang by like 5 seconds at Nationals) Having the first two runs with issues on the car and then hitting 7 cones on the first run I finished kinda took my head out of the game.

I've always wished I could work course while it was running....I think it would be cool to see it from that close.

guttedmiata 03-09-2015 09:22 PM

I could arrange that ;)

loudes13 03-10-2015 11:50 AM

I was so hoping to see your car in front of person at Blytheville. That didn't work out.

I'm curious how low you guys go with 10/11's? I set my front height at 4.5" after flaring the fender with the 275 on a 10 and it looks ready to do baha.

TNTUBA 03-10-2015 01:39 PM

From the pinch weld I'm between 4.0 and 4.25 on the front with me in the car. I set my ride heights close to where I want them....but then corner balance the car and the ride heights end up wherever they end up.

loudes13 03-10-2015 03:01 PM

Sweet, then I will experiment lower. I just recall my specmiata getting inconsistent below 4.5". I might stiffer springs to go as low as you.

Lurch 03-10-2015 08:41 PM

He radio'd it in but no one ever said anything back. I think they were secretly intrigued enough to ignore it and see what it could do. Either that, or the radio was malfunctioning.

Though, there were several cars that day that were right on the limit and no one really said anything to.

Regardless, it was cool to see. I don't do the whole National Prosolo thing so it was nice to see it out at one of the local events. Think it will be at anymore? I talked to your dad and brother some after I ran. He said any questions he had, he could answer. I asked what kind of power it made followed by bringing up all the various quotes that day from various people of anywhere from 325 to 450 whp. He just answered with "yeah".

vehicular 03-11-2015 11:38 AM

How much louder is it now than 2 years ago when I rode in it last?

TNTUBA 03-15-2015 02:34 PM

We had a few mechanical issues on day one. Just part of the beast. But we pulled it together on day two and won a "gentleman's" bet with the two guys co driving the car that won the event. Here are a couple vids from day two.

So, after years of abuse and way too many stickers, I decided it was time to freshen up the look on the car.

This is what it looked like last year.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1429356861

So I removed all the stickers, sanded it down, primed it, blocked it, painted it. I'm really digging the new satin black look. The car now looks as sinister as it's personality.

All the class lettering and numbers used to be magnetic. I remade them with a carbon fiber look silver vinyl. This picture really doesn't fully capture the look. Not only do they look 10x better but they took 3 lbs off the car.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1429356861

Here are a couple of my codriver's videos from Texas this past weekend.

Before you say anything about the "hood risers" don't. I don't want to hear it, I don't care and when yours is faster than mine I MIGHT listen to(but I doubt it) :)

In all seriousness.....it had to be done to clear the new intake piping for the blower.

Reverant 04-18-2015 08:12 AM

Does the car still want to kill you despite giving it a new paint job?

Also, dem hood risers.

TNTUBA 04-18-2015 10:21 AM

It only wants to kill us 80% of the time. Out thoughts are unless it is trying to kill you 100% of the time it's just not fast enough.
