Haaa. Yea. I get about as many comments on the sound of the car on the two step as I do anything else. :) it does sound pretty bad ass in person :)

It's funny you would say that. One of my competitors asked me if I had sped up my videos.

bbundy 06-09-2015 11:00 AM

I took some in car vidios with my cell phone and image stabilization turned on. it makes coming off the corners look like you hit the warp drive switch. its like trying to hold image steady when you slow down for the corners then catches up on the straight. keep in mind Spec Miata lap record was like 1:41.8 and I turned a 1:27.5 so it is sort of like that anyway without added distortion.

I don't think you did that, I just know that I drove that same course really slowly because I sucked/suck.

Thanks Eric! It was really great to meet you and get a better insight into just how balls-out insane your car really is! Watching it on course on Sunday was just something else entirely. Congrats to you and Randall for taking the 1st and 3rd trophy spots in SSM for the weekend!

I had a rough weekend - wrong car, wrong tires, etc. but I had a ton of fun so it's all good (except for the cold rain monsoon on saturday)!

The rocket juice is called a Billy, he does have a CSP national championship, and that does mean a bit more than a jacket in some other classes.

Great seeing you again eric, thanks again for like the 11th time letting me hop in your car for the challenge after I blew up 2nd gear again, fuck that thing accelerates like holymoly.

No worries at all man. Good seeing you again too and congrats on the Trophy.

What do you mean it accelerates like "holymoly"???? It's just a little stupercharger car :)

Hope you get your car fixed and look forward to seeing you in Wilmington in a few weeks.

6 speed 3.636 is a decent combo ill break about 10 5 speeds for every one 6 speed using it for autocross. I was shocked to loose about 12 lbs with the 5 speed Quaife however. Even lighter now that big side of my 5th gear is ground down to nothing more than a spacer sleeve. less rotating mass. Most of the weight difference between the 5 and 6 speed is rotating assembly parts.

Check out the % of time we spend loaded up over 1.5g. No wonder we were so out of breath when we got out of the car after every run.

TNTUBA 08-03-2015 09:29 PM

Car was pretty good at the Wilmington Summer Pro. I drove well...just red lit away a time that would have landed me in second place....then coned away a time that would have....you guessed it.....landed me in second place. We were the fastest thing there with fenders. Only vehicles in the 31's were my car and 2 of the shifter carts.

Had both these runs been clean, I would have been 2ths out of the lead and solidly in the challenge. As it stands....my co-driver won by over a second.

Fastest Miata at Nationals second year in a row :)

On a side note. I need to find the best cylinder head builder in the US. I need to send him some parts for a post mortum. Those of you who were at Nationals know all about my issues....when I got the head off the car today....it was A LOT worse than I had expected. We are REALLY lucky the damn thing didn't fly apart on Randall's last run.

Pics will follow

All I know is that his intake valve clearance closed way up. He can say more. I'm too afraid to look at my intake valve clearance or my oil after the amount of time my car spent banging off the 8500 rev limit on the plane side course.

Oh, well that's a valve/seat issue then. I'd be curious what seat width he was running on the intakes, and where the seat was making contact on the face of the valve (outer edge, middle, inner edge). That's likely the problem if the intake valves are tightening up.

I know a little about it, not sure I can post it though. Not a VVT head though I know that. But now you see why I'm trying to get my whipple setup working correctly. :)

TNTUBA 11-27-2015 06:53 AM

Yea, I'm not posting any specific details about the new setup. Sorry :(

The car won the Pro Solo Championship by a healthy margin and finished 3rd at Nationals only .094 second out of first, with 1 cylinder over 80psi down on compression.

So I'm hoping to make it better, stronger and faster this winter.

holy flat torque curve! I needed a 4.778 rear end and 8600 rev limit to avoid shifting and to attempt staying in my torque band for coming off corners.

Leafy 11-28-2015 01:40 PM

Bob if the courses keep going the way they're going you might just want the 4.3 and my turbo. I needed about 8 more mph without otherwise changing my car to be happy on the plane side course.

TNTUBA 11-28-2015 09:50 PM

8 more MPH???? Does your car go less than 70 as it is?

At 8600 rpm my car would do ~73 MPH in second a 6 speed with a 3.636 would do ~71. It's well off the end of my power curve however but it will go that fast. The problem was the Plane side course had pretty much no slow spots it really wasnt much of a power course CSP cars would have been towards the front of SSM on that course. I was going to try 3rd gear on my second run because the Quaife is close between second and third it would have still been on torque for all but one turn. Broken throttle spring on a Skunk 2 throttle body DNF'd that run however at the first lift spot. With the mad rush and panic to re-bend the throttle spring and make it work to get my last run I decided to not try it again. Last run was fast but with one too sideways moment that probably cost me 3 spots in the trophies. Didn't actually hit the rev limiter but a lot of time was spent deep in the revs past the sweet spot of my power curve.

Leafy 11-29-2015 12:24 AM

The run where I nailed the first turn around I was on the rev limiter at the first offset coming back towards the stands. After the turn around by the stands I was take it or leave it on the higher rev limiter and I think if I ever could have gotten the turn correct in the back left corner of the course I'd have been on the limiter on the back section longer than the "straight" too. But yeah that course was a whole lot of drive my car like its in CSP, floor it and turn the wheel and brake for the pin turns.

bbundy 11-29-2015 12:54 AM

I think Erics flat torque curve would be easier to drive. my car becomes more driveable only by gearing it to stay away from the rapid torque rise portion of the curve. I have no traction control ABS or launch control. Eric has all of that. Need to come off slow corners at about 4000 rpm or better or throttle control is much more like the throttle cable is a sticky stretchy rubber band. Having said that I think the area under the used portions of our two curves arn't that much different. If I drove my car on a road course track for 20 minute sessions with the boost turned up like that it might not live much longer than his but if I turn it down about 50-60 hp it's reasonably reliable.
