Except the clubman, which I have now. Adjusting the lower belts once my seats are in is a PITA. With that being said, I really like the rest of the harness and that is why I stepped my new ones up to the Profi II.
I had a Clubman it was a PITA to adjust. Profi is super easy to adjust plus has a much more comfortable crotch strap. I don't mind paying premiums for safety. |

I've looked through this whole thread and didn't find anyone else with this issue. My 99 does not have an oem location for an eyelet bolt on the trans tunnel. Is this common with to have to drill a hole and reinforce the bolt?
Also, why would I choose the $400 schroth over the $200 gforce. Just for the option of pull-up? I don't have any plans on running a hans either. Funny story from this weekend. I have a customer with a ex-Formula SAE car. i was over at his shop this weekend pouring him a seat. He brought it to my attention that the G force harnesses bought where very heavy. we added it up and it increased his chassis weight by 5%. he switched over to a OMP 805 harness instead. |

Bringing this thread back as I am about to order harnesses.
My car will be street driven, but not daily driven, and generally it only goes on the highway to get to an event. Most of the street miles I put on it are around town and under 50 mph. I have had a few people suggest to me that I should get an ASM harness to make getting inspected easier and for safety when not wearing a hans on the street. I am not interested in a 4 point ASM so that leaves the competition version with added sub straps (which isn't dot legal, no orange push button). Is a 6 point ASM significantly safer in a car with a roll bar, race seats, and no helmet/hans? Is it significantly less safe in a track accident with a helmet and hans? |
You could just leave the stock belts in the car, they don't weigh that much. Just tuck the lower straps under/behind the seats at inspection time so as not to confuse the inspection monkey.

I have stock belts and 5 point harnesses in the car.

Question about the seat foaming. My gf is a foot shorter than me and needs to sit about 6-8 inches forward. Can I use the seat foam to safely move her forward or will it move her too far away from the seat.

I will for sure spend the extra money on a nicer set of harnesses next time vs. the G-force Pro 3". They are fine, but remind me of some old seat belts from an early 80s small plane.
Biggest issue for me that is functional vs. cosmetic is that the slacking tab falls next to the seat edge and is very difficult to adjust if you are in the seat (good thing that does not happen much). I can't find a way to adjust the belt to get that to fall anywhere else. The set-up is with Sprint seats, OE front hump and shaved rear OE mounting points (stock seats and race seats are super easy to swap). Just a bad combo of seat, seat placement and harness design. I did not see that coming at all. |
This is probably as good of a place as any to ask about this. Does anyone know anything about the Schroth SHR FLEX (hans alternative)? No info about a release date other than spring/summer 2015. Summer officially ends in 2 weeks.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1442240873 the help. i've seen kazpec's seat mounts. i can recommend them. they are also compatible with a lot of different sparco seats. ProCar Innovations Race Spec Seat Mount Version 2 | KazeSpec Engineering Proven to fit the following seats: Sparco Sprint 5, Sparco Evo, pretty much the majority of Sparco seats. The mount will fit other seats within 422mm wide, but we have not tested the fitment in anything other than these and cannot guarantee compatibility |
Ultrashields 15", 16" and 17" fit NBs with no problem. TDR even sells pre-made brackets that work very well. I even suspect that the US 18" would fit the passenger side on an NB. Driver's side is just a tiny bit more narrow.
I did install a 6 point Schroth on the driver's side of the 2003. The mounting locations for the sub strap are not perfect. There's all kinds of stuff on the bottom getting in the way. Anybody have pictures 6 point of sub belt mounting in an NB? Somebody wrote that the trans tunnel is pretty weak for belt mounting. This is true with the exception of the rear-most part (at least on NBs again). Here the metal is doubled up and that's where I attached the lap belts. Still used mounting plates of course! |
