Tuned my 6.0 Ford's ECM, TCM, and FICM last week. I'm now in the 800+ ft lbs club. Was also able to increase shift firmness, use VGT as jake brake under decel, and keep the torque converter locked under more conditions. Acceleration and throttle resonse are so much better now, and my real time MPG display is showing a 3 mpg increase. I can't wait to tow something. If you have a 6.0, GET A TUNE. Its gonna ride like ass, and make you tired before you even start racing. It might also need to be registered and insured as a commercial vehicle depending on your state laws. At the very least its probably going to need the words "not for hire" and "carries no cash" to be legal to haul with in most states. I was really thinking about it when I found a bunch in more or less the price range of just a trailer, but the hassle of it just aint worth it.

IDK, I think a newer one probably won't be as bad and it would beat 85 miles one way of commuting to the track in the Miata. I wouldn't need to pay $70/month for storage of a trailer, either.

I've ridden in a "newer" one, its still not pleasant, I wouldnt want to take it to events more than an hour or two away, but those quickly get into serious money. I've also ridden in a 2012 model, it was a bit more comfortable, but also cost over 100k.

It's also a pickup without a bed. You've got very little room to store extra gear compared to what you'd get with a truck/SUV and a trailer.

I think you need dual rear wheels to tow a Miata, but it may work for the Exocet. I think I had heard of "headbolt safe" tunes once before, I was not sure if it is something I would trust. As far as fuel economy, supposedly diesels in general get better fuel economy from power upgrades as long as you are not driving like a drag racing car. |
