I know the dash profiles are different, but I was talking about the top of the gauge hoods. Are they remotely close?

Could that black piece be incorporated in or would you risk busting the whole bumper from an off if the diffuser gets hit? Could the whole bumper be made out of polyurethane?

I'd be willing to work with you on the nose if you want. I already have glassed in my vents on my RB nose. I personally think that it could come down further and be flat to meet a splitter (like I've modded mine to do). Additionally, to appeal to a broader audience, you probably need to keep the turn signal openings. I'd prefer to move the brake ducts to the splitter via NACA ducts and keep the front sealed, then offer a set of functional canards as bolt ons to the flat surface. I'm also working on a new splitter design which will be more functional than the flat piece I am using, and several others are using too. it couldn't be just glass, but I bet you could replicate what I am doing with glass over a core of alumilite...

I also wouldn't really want to widen the nose as I would prefer to use wheel spats to block the tire and integrate them into the front aero. It might be slightly more drag than the way proposed earlier, but the front splitter can be a lot more effective this way. And for turbo cars, I think thr front grip is more important than the drag change.

I'm in dallas, and Trey knows how to get hold of me if you are interested.

This might be a stupid question, but Ive loved the idea of door bars since I first learned about them, and now with Hustlers thread saying they rock, I want them all the more. Are they usable without a roll bar? I assume they just bolt to the car where the lower mount of a roll bar would go, but I dont know because I dont have a car with a bar to examine.

I personally think you should stick with the things like door bar and alike where the market isnt saturated.

I would have to agree with Matt on the brake ducting being taken out of the front bumper. Essentially just have the front sealed up minus the front inlet for intercooler and radiator airflow... However, there is probably not as much of a market for this unfortunately. But I do like the idea of widening the front bumper some so it can work better if the car is flared or has wider fenders similar to Garage Vary's GT kit...

I'd love to have door bars that protruded out into the door like this (For the most protection from side impacts)...I know this isn't for everybody, but I think more than a few would go for it.....I personally would build a sheetmetal tub to clean up the door and still allow the bar to protrude out. You could even probably just make these as a weld in kit to make things a little easier on your end.

I bet he sells 50 if he gets 949 to throw one on the OGK.

Thats a full cage bud, wouldn't work for door bars.

I may switch to belly-pan/splitter brake ducts too because its worked so well for Matt. hmmmm

If you support the splitter correctly in the front with a good frame, this shouldn't be a problem. I don't have the machinery to make polyurethane.

I am not really worried about people trying to use this on a street car, so the turn signals will probably be covered.

How much lower does the bumper need to go?

On the sides, would you leave it unchanged in front of the tire? I know you say using canards. How big and how many? I am just having a hard time picturing that for some reason.

Without it being part of a cage, you really don't get any more function out of this design than the standard. I will probably just stick with the simple door bars for now. If I am wrong about it, then I may revisit this idea.

If you're looking for gauge mounting ideas, I'd like a single gauge pod that fits in the little nook to the right of the gauge cluster. Preferably something that would contour or transition reasonably well between the gauge hood & dash. Not 100% sure if this is practical since I don't have an unmounted gauge to experiment with at the moment. But a gauge in that spot would be plenty visible while on track.

Matt,

Post details about your ideas with some representative photos. I know you have more knowledge on this subject than most with all the aero work you have been working on. BTW, you never emailed me back...

I gotcha... the shapes are remotely close, but they have their differences. My 1.8 hood would not fit the 1.6 when I swapped dashes and had to find a 1.6 hood. The guages however fit without a problem. Hope this helps...

crap, did I miss your last email? I'll need to go dig. Sorry. I've been travelling a lot recently. you mind resending?

here is a shot of the front of the car under load. You can see the front bumper extension I made. It probably adds 2.5" in the center, but less on the sides. The important part is it provides a 90* mating point for the splitter. Even with as low as my car is, without the splitter, this bumper gets on a trailer no problem. ignore the canards in this photo. The fabricator that built them didn't follow the drawings, so they don't mate well, and are at the wrong angles and the design isn't that great.

and for the canard design, this is what I'd be looking for. they could be a bolt on accessory sold for the bumper.

While I know you don't care about street cars that much, if you think about volume and wide appeal, there aren't very many track only cars in the US. But you do have a lot of "mostly track" cars. I personally think leaving out the marker lights would limit the audience dramatically. But I don't really care for my personal car.
