Apologies if this question has been asked to death already but I couldnt seem to find any clarity on this. I've tweaking my tune that I've on my boosted NB and trying to improve things as we go along. The current ignition table is a bit jank but works well enough for what it is, think the main things to improve is transisent and making it safer. I'm running speediunio for ECU but posted here as this is Trubokitty basemap.
Anyways my question is why is there such a difference between the two tables below, especially with how aggressive it is in the top end for the NB compared to the NA? Also why is it generally mapped very differently, like how its so retarded around 1000rpm at 250kPa and scales up on the NB but is more or less consistent on the NA version? Hopefully the questions im getting after make sense.
Careful with the trubokitty nb1 / bp4w base map. I ran it for years thinking it was safe, but by the time we got it on the dyno we ended up finding timing was over-advanced for pump gas, and safely pulled 3-5* without any power loss. The tuner definitely said I was pushing timing and was surprised the car never detonated.
YMMV. I'd start looking around at some of the timing map threads to get a better feel for what is safe. The 94-97 map looks much safer.
Ahh rght I see, well ive been using a modified version of the 94-97 map anyway so thats good. Could you explain the reasoning behind how its mapped so differently left to right? Ive seen both styles posted but confused as to why somone would run one over the other. This is irrespective of actual advance, just more why it scales the way it does.
Yea I figured as much but was curious to there being an actual but I guess it really is more personal preference on how you plot it because it makes zero effect anyway.
Thanks for clearing that up and posting up your base maps for everyone to use! Definitely helped getting the ball rolling on my setup.
Brain, just curious, do you remember if you built those maps assuming 91 or 93 octane? I feel like I always wanted to ask that when I started tuning my car but couldn't find an answer.
