Default Hi i'm new, need a bit of info.

Hi, im new here, i currently drive a Toyota Starlet Glanza V which i have tuned up to 232bhp, i am in the process of selling my car in order to get a 1.8 MX5 which i will be turbo'in.

I am planning to use a T28, T28 or T3 turbo and ill be honest, i know jack **** about these turbo's, i was wondering what the max boost pressure, spool up time and power output of these turbo's are.

I will be aiming for 220bhp to start with and then if i enjoy the car i will forge the engine and aim for more power, maybe then going with a GT series turbo. and if these cars are as fun as everyone says i cant say why this wont happen

thanks

first, forget "bhp" because we all measure in rwhp (rear wheel hp). which I'll assume you meant since you probably haven't taken the engine out and measured its horsepower by itself.

220 rwhp on a 1.8 MX5 is easy. any one of those turbos will get you there with less than 8 or 9 psi. The T3 will get you up to 300 rwhp if you plan well.

Welcome to the forums

Matt

ah ok thanks i will bear that in mind! the main thing i am wondering is the spool up time on each of the turbo's dont want anything too laggy, i have a td04 on my 1.3 starlet and thats pretty laggy but bearable, it used to have a k26 on it but that was just silly

Either of those turbos will spool quickly, the 28 a bit faster than the T3, it is almost safe to say that you will have full boost by 3K RPM, providing you have a decent set-up.
Also, no need to forge the motor for anything less than 300rwhp providing you have a good tune, our motors are pretty stout from the factory.
The things you should consider spending money on would be wider wheels with lots of rubber and a decent suspension and definitively a roll bar.

Now, please go list your location in you profile so everyone knows where you are and maybe some locals will offer to come by for a gang bang, you never know.

There's a whole shitload of dyno plots on here.. you can just look at the spool from each turbo there.
