Thanks for posting this, no one believes me when I tell them the orange FRAM filters use cardboard internals.

I've got a used K&N on the bench, I'll see if I can remember to cut it open later this week without making a huge mess

 

Please someone, interpret what I am looking at.

Also of note is all the crap the frame has at the base where oil enters the filter- that can't be good for flow.

Rockauto was selling Miata "white box" WIX filters for <$3 for a while- all gone now. Another option is the German made MANN filters which are in stock and less than $3. I use these on the Benz after seeing some cutaway comparisons- though I can't find them atm. They've also have Mahle for <$5 another quality filter. Seems the better filters generally cost less than the big name crap.

 

my local wal-mart just started carrying purolater filters.... Not many different options (didn't have the honda filter I needed) But they're actually cheaper than the fram garbage, I'm really hoping this isn't some trial they're going to cancel...

 

I primarily use Purolator or Mobil 1 filters.

Years back when bobtheoilguy was getting popular I remember some of these cutaway threads spreading around teh web.

Anytime I see someone buying a fram filter I know right away they're a ------- moron.

"Ohh let me save myself $3 and get the cheapest filter on the shelf", that seems logical when putting it on my car I use and depend on daily.

 

I believe the NAPA gold filters are identical to the Wix filters, FYI.

 

Napa Gold and Platinum are made by WIX.

I'm runnin' Platinum on the Miata personally. Amazing filter for extended OCI.

 

And yet do you know what the failure vs success rate of them is?

If millions of people use them (and they do) and there's only a few documented incidents of failure I'd say they're not as bad as some people seem to think they are.

I use K&N filters on my performance cars, but have been putting FRAM filters on our daly's for years without a single issue. Filter gets replaced every 3k miles along with oil. I dunno, I guess I'm a moron

 

Sorry bro, didn't write down the stats 5 years ago when I read them.

All I know is I've read plenty of threads, articles, etc on fram filters. So ever since then, I've based an opinion on them and their user.

Really though, why try and save the $3 on an oil filter?

When I do an oil change the ---- costs me like $50 at least, meanwhile you can go to jerkofflube and get it done for $19.99 while you stare at the girl's **** at the front counter.

And its not really about the money either, just a couple bux difference, just that I get my oil from Wally World and don't feel like making an extra trip to the local car store for a filter for a lowly civic/corolla/etc.. I'm not here to argue for fram filters, cause frankly IDGAF, but I just think that this is all a little overdramatized is all.

A handful of times we wouldn't have time to do the oil changes on the company GMC's, so they'd have me take them to jiffylube around the corner. Super hot girl worked the counter and every time I went I'd flirt with her.

I'm sure they put her up there on purpose.

 

I buy Mazda filters...wish I could still get the black ones though.

I use NAPA Gold or WIX. I have tried Royal Purple oil with their filter on my Dart before. I hardly think it was worth the cost.
