And (re)valve the shocks correctly for the springs and your driving style 3rd. :2cents:
In an ideal scenario, absolutely. Not like it matters for Miatas since there's eleventy billion shock options and shit, but i had a rather lengthy phone call with Lee Grimes on this subject since i more commonly fuck with cars that don't have shit for shock options. |
tecna are not rebuildable, no revalving possible.

Are we talking "not rebuildable" or NOT rebuildable. Like stock driveshafts are "not rebuildable" but most internal waste gate actuators are NOT rebuildable.
|
Who cares? By the time you buy them, get new springs, and then pay someone to figure out if they can be rebuildable/revalved, and then do the job...
You've spent Xida money. Derp. |

Well I mean what happens 20 years down the road when emillio has closed down 949 and retired to bora bora and they finally need a rebuild.

Lol- Guys, it's a stainless body, non rebuildable coilover that's made well, tuned for awesome street dynamics, and priced competitively at an estimated $750.
You're not going to snake around and make a budget XIDA with these things. The max spring rate these things will take is probably 500lb front springs, and 400lb rear, but the valving will not be set up for those rates, and you'll probably wear them out, sooner. Granted, no one's telling you you can't do so. Buy a set. See if you like them. If you feel like they can take more spring, give it a go. Buy some used springs, and throw 'em on. See what they do. At the very least, it doesn't work that well, and you're only out $100-200. You can always sell the springs after that. If it does work, then great! Come back and let us know. Quite frankly though, the majority of people interested in these will love them out of the box, because they'll soon realize they don't compete, or even attend that many auto-x/track days throughout the year, and that they will be perfectly content with the abilities of the package from the get go. |
How much longer before these Tecna coilovers are available to the public?

The simple fact that these dampers have what seems to be more than adequate travel (particularly on the rear) makes me think that they'll be a huge win.
After spending way too much time with pre-load adjustments, making the most of my BC rears at 75mm travel.... I've come to appreciate this feature in a product like the TECNA's. The fact is, even if you have a coilover that is completely dialed, and it lacks adequate droop travel, you're still gonna hate life when you hit large bumps or dips in the road. Probably not the case with these. |
I am in for a set when they are ready!
|
I've got the FM 2.5 (with their recessed rear top hats). Did you give any thought to offering an aftermarket rear top hat to increase travel further?

We even have our own steel NB mount clone on standby if Mazda discontinues or raises the price on the factory NB mount.

Now I'm super-duper interested in these as I picked up a 94 R-package and the suspension is TERRIBLE. It might handle well on a perfectly smooth surface but on real roads it's just abusive.

I'm more so interested in when / if preordering will happen. |
I want them too, but I'll probably wait until a few test sets are out their and I can get some reviews from other users :P

I think you mean testimonials from production kit users. |
In my limited understanding of suspension, the shocks need to be valved to match the grip level of the tires, correct? If so, what kind of tires has the testing been done with and what class of tires will be ideal to run with these? I currently run 205/50 RE11's on 15x8 Enkei PF01's, for instance.
