ACT 4 Puck to less pucks conversion
#21
I got myself a used 4 puck for cheap, and I'm not sure if I want to run the 4 puck. I've heard that they engage in a binary manner, and mine looks to be fairly worn.
My question is, can I swap in a new friction disk? Like a 6 puck, or even a normal full disk.
I can get a friction disk for sub 200$, versus a full ACT setup is 300+.

for me the puck type ACT are compleatley street drivable.
As far as engagement goes I notice Zero difference between a 4 or a 6 puck. the organic discs are a bit smoother engagement but the ACT brand puck clutches still slip some and are fairly consistent and easy to get use to, I've driven much worse.
an un-sprung disk will buzz like crazy and be annoying as hell when passing through no load through the driveline situations like happens allot cruising down the highway or driving around town as the disk rattles on the input splines and all the gears in the transmission. if its only driven in anger like on a track or autocross then this doesn't matter so much because when its transferring load there isn't the buzz.
