I've never driven on performance suspension myself, this is my first car that I'm building and working on. I don't currently have plans to track my car once it's done, at least not for a good amount of time where I can learn how to drive it. I understand I'm building a lot of motor, I'll get appropriate wheels and tires, but I don't feel that I need a super mega ultra good suspension, just some reliable street jawns. I spent a bit looking at kits last night and found three categories price wise: $350-$500, $700-850, and then everything else is $1100-$1500. I'm doing my own reading to learn about them but a lot of the kits seem to say the same things, it's just price differences. Hard to figure out exactly what I'm supposed to avoid.

it's really simple:
if you want cheap, put together the "budget bilstein" setup, or the fm vmaxx, or tokicos, or..
if you want proper, go to xida, fcm, fox, whatever.

there is not in between. most setups for 700-1000 fall into the cheap category cause they're not any better than the above mentioned.
and if you're over 1k, you'd be crazy not to get the above mentioned proper setup

Yep when it comes to suspension there are a few ways to do it. Xidas are the answer, but if you are not going with them. Then Bilstiens and eBay sleeves, or Tokico and FM Springs are the other decent choices. The majority of the coil over setups in the less then $1000 range are pretty crappy and can be beat by the Bilstiens. The Tokico and FM springs are about the best DD set for comfort.

Good stuff, you guys are awesome. I'm trying to find as much as I can on my own without posting unnecessary threads, but I trust you guys are giving the best down-low recommendations. Excited to get into this and blow my paychecks on miata **** for the next few years.

Yeah if you never plan on tracking the car. My honest recommendation would be the Tokico and FM springs. It is an amazing DD setup. Does not handle as well as the budget blisteins, but is a bit more comfortable. On my car's I will only do Xida's or Tokico/FM from now on. Depending on what the purpose of the car is.

The Tokico/FM seems like a pretty good deal, I'll put them on the list.

I would plan for the future and get adjustable endlinks, 80$ from fm iirc.
Then you'll be all set for performance swaybars when you get them!
