Looking at the market and seeing what wheels fit what cars is stealing intellectual property? Presumably you should have been pissed at TR for selling any wheels advertised to fit a Miata, since you are all 100% certain they aren't doing any R&D on their own.

I doubt very much that a wheel size, determined through good engineering but otherwise probably legally "obvious" would have been patentable.

So, yeah, legally speaking 15x9 in 36 offset is fair game.

Copying website text verbatim to help sell said wheels, however, is copyright infringement and not fair game.
Yup, which is why I asked what the text was. Poking around TR's wheel pages barely reveals 1000 words cumulatively, and wheel names and prices isn't exactly copyrighted text. So either I'm missing it or it's been removed, but I'm curious to know exactly what it was.

It was his Miata fitment information. Lots of customer experience combined with racing experience to get that information.

What you need to fit each size on each body type.

It might not be there now, but I remember when the 6UL was being named, lots of people had issues believing an eight inch wheel would work on a Miata or be beneficial. That sizing information really seemed to make wider Miata wheels a possibility in people's minds.

Wish that info was still up, I keep finding CR threads when I search for ten inch fitment.

I get that I created a demand and others also fill that demand now that they know it exists. I'm fine with that. Proud of it in fact.
Quoted as a reminder that making wheels with the same fitment is not the issue for Emilio. It was the fitment guide that they stole off of the 949 website. That guide has been removed from both websites so nobody benefits from it now.

Just to be clear, that info is not unavailable for anyone to benefit from. It is still available, you just have to reach out for it. From 949's website:

949 Racing home page > 6UL FAQS & FITMENT INFO
...
Due to our competitors plagiarizing of copywrighted material from our website, we will now offer specific fitment and tech support only by direct communication.

If you have any questions about wheel or tire fitment, please give us a call or email !

This!

It also shows how they targeted his work and benefited from it.
