Dude, sometimes you have to turn the tranny to get the splines alined. I had to turn (clock) my mustangs tranny alot. Like almost 45 degrees. You would think you wouldn't need to, but sometimes you do.

If you leave it in neutral, turning the tranny will do nothing. Put it into gear and you only need to turn it slightly or turn the engine slightly.

I set it up so I could adjust the rope from under the car; it would be easier if you can get someone to adjust the rope for you.
i did the same thing, works awesome!

Well I got the job done today. I did use the jack Brain recommended whch worked well. Also had a friend jiggle the crank as I put the tranny to the engine. I almost had a boner when it seemed joined until I found out I had the wiring harness caught between the engine and tranny and had to do it again. That made me limp.
Any way thanks to all for the suggestions. If anybody comes across this while searching for clutch job, read Sams thread. Beats the **** out of Miata.nets. Also, as you have read elswhere, have a freind help you out if only to hand you tools. Have a BF breaker bar too. Beer time, and as I ponder this job it still sucked. Anyway I like the feel of the ACT HD with Streetdisk. It will work for my normal 5 psi and I am sure be okay for 6 psi on a cool day
