Have they arrive yet? :D

ctdrftna 04-23-2014 05:12 AM

The end of April is near......

TurboTim 04-23-2014 07:46 AM

I got mine. :dunno:

Same box as my trackspeed turbo kit.

Keith@FM 04-23-2014 08:54 AM

There have been some delays. May sometime, that's all I know.

TurboTim 04-23-2014 09:15 AM

I found them!

Then scientists will start trying to figure out what they are for, and then say how primitive we were for having to use wheels on cars to get us around, instead of just teleporting to where we want to be.

Right about the time they're analyzing my skeleton (which will still be awaiting the wheels) with all the titanium bits. I wonder if they'll put two and two together?

UrbanSoot 04-24-2014 08:33 PM

I was really hoping to run my Hoosiers on May 11 event. Doesn't look like that is happening :(

paNX2K&SE-R 04-24-2014 11:14 PM

Oh jeez I hope May doesn't become June in a few more weeks...

hornetball 04-25-2014 11:29 AM

Guys, I gave up my position in the group buy yesterday. I couldn't wait any longer. So, that's 4 more wheels that will be available when they do show up (15x9 black). If you like these and can wait it out . . . opportunity.

So, what did you end up ordering?

hornetball 04-26-2014 07:42 PM

I got a set of those new Advanti Storms from Goodwin (TireRack has them too). I just couldn't argue with a 15x9 that weighs 12.2 pounds, costs $140 and is in stock.

FM is to busy putting miata power trains in non miata chassis, and non miata motors into miatas.

hornetball 04-28-2014 12:23 AM

I should have checked . . . .

fredricktsang 05-04-2014 11:28 PM

Any good news? My tires are turning into fossilizing in my living room.

Keith@FM 05-05-2014 06:28 PM

I wish I had some news. But I do not. I apologize for that. All I know is that (obviously) April isn't going to happen. On the 27th, I was in the middle of a week-long road trip out to Atlanta, dodging tornadoes. While it would have been ideal to contact all those in the group buy, it wasn't possible.

It's been a rough ride for us as well. Not everything has been under our control - we didn't set the pricing, for example, and the change in MSRP after the group buy was over was a surprise. I will take credit for the bronze color, though :) We're at the end of the line when it comes to information. We're sharing what we can, when we get it - but it's a slow drip for us.

Of course, we haven't charged anyone a penny for these yet. We've put down quite a bit of our own money, but it's only our money that we're gambling. If you want to abandon ship and go with a different option, just call and let us know.

Keith@FM 05-15-2014 02:20 PM

Update: no good news. Now we're expecting them in mid July. Nobody here is excited about that to put it mildly.

We will be contacting everyone who's preordered these. Luckily, we can provide the Advanti Storm S1 in 15x7 or 15x8 immediately.

Thankfully I picked up a BNIB set of 15x8 6ULs to tide me over until the Jongbloed 15x9s show up!

ctdrftna 05-15-2014 05:08 PM

keith what is the price difference for the advanti's in 15x8 ? can you match the $138 sale price on goodwin right now?

Keith@FM 05-15-2014 05:21 PM

$138 is the standard retail price for the 15x8. And if you buy tires at the same time, you get free mounting and balancing.

Twodoor 07-01-2014 10:12 PM

Are we still expecting these mid July? If so I will scrape up some money and order a set.

Keith

Keith@FM 07-01-2014 10:19 PM

I confirmed today that we are airlifting some in mid-July. That's as tight as I can give for a schedule at the moment.

Woo hoo!!! Will that be for the people who were part of the group buy?

Keith@FM 07-02-2014 12:08 AM

I haven't confirmed the numbers, but obviously the original group buy participants are the highest priority.

Any status update on these?

unk577 08-25-2014 10:52 AM

As of this morning they are atleast a couple weeks out. They were supposed to have been out on a boat this past Friday but it doesn't look like that happened

vehicular 08-25-2014 11:22 AM

Do you know which sizes the pics above are?

Keith@FM 08-25-2014 12:34 PM

I have no updates. I don't even have the info that unk577 does.

I think the above pics are 15x8s.

unk577 08-25-2014 01:09 PM

It's what I was told by one of the other vendors for these wheels.

Twodoor 08-25-2014 02:22 PM

I just went ahead an pulled the trigger on a set. Nice thing about Flyin' Miata is they don't charge you until they have the product in hand. My turbo kit and my coil over suspension were $$$ up front and we will send it when we get it.

Keith

k24madness 09-09-2014 09:39 PM

I really respect the way Flying Miata is handling the orders for wheels and not taking deposits. Jongbloed is notorious for taking 50% deposits and lying about delivery dates. It's not uncommon to have wheels take 3 times longer than promised. I am glad to see Flying Miata did not get dragged into that mess.

philstireservice 09-10-2014 09:12 AM

Although if you have ever dealt with a wheel manufacturer you would see that "they have their own" time schedule.

It might be common; however, its bad business strategy as these wheels were supposed to be the alternative to 6ULs while Emilio retooled with another CM (contract manufacturer for ya'll not in development).

I'm empathetic to the vendors repping Jongbloed wheels ... you guys were left in an awkward position. Under promise, over deliver.

We did, sorta. We've paid a bunch of money towards them, we just haven't taken any money. It's a bad, bad deal for us.

They'd better be magical when they show up, I've personally lost patience with this whole debacle. I'm running Advantis on my own car (available from FM!) and we're now a 949 dealer as well. We still have all colors of 6ULs available - and of course, we won't take your money until they ship.

It was never a planned and most definitely not a business strategy. When you have to involve other companies unfortunately sometimes things happen and have to be dealt with. No one and I mean no one is tougher on a supplier than I am but logistically we were at a disadvantage.

So saying it's industry standard makes it excusable? I call BS on that.

While Jongbloed is outsourcing the manufacture of these wheels and thus have less control over timelines they still have the same delivery issues with 3 piece forged wheels that are made in house. See a pattern here?

In the past when I have seen this type of behavior it was the early signs of financial trouble. Taking deposits and using that money to pay for past due bills is the first sign of trouble. Go over to the Porsche forums and see how many people got hung out to dry when Fikse abruptly shut their doors. They were playing the same game up until the end.

I sure hope FM does not get burned by Jongbloed. They have been a great vendor to work with. Once again I admire Keith for not dragging his customers through the ringer by taking deposits.

Jongbloeds 3 pc wheels are not my issue nor do I get involved with that. And I never said anything was an excuse - just a reason.

Seefo 09-10-2014 10:42 PM

Jongbloed has been around for a long time. Dunno their financials, but they are not here to "sell" wheels for a few months, take deposits and leave.

I guess they may, but that certainly isn't was has kept them around for years. In any case, wheels are VERY late. Having dealt with them before, I opted not to get in on GB.

Keith@FM 10-03-2014 04:39 PM

Finally! We have some wheels in stock. And yes, we do currently have enough stock for new orders.

Silver and matte black 15x9s are here. They clock in at 15.4 lbs, which is higher than the estimates that were given to us. But they're here.

hornetball 10-03-2014 05:03 PM

Dang. Those are about the same weight as a C3M.

turbofan 10-03-2014 07:23 PM

I mean, they look fantastic, but aside from that... spendy, and heavy. Sad panda.

Twodoor 10-06-2014 06:22 AM

Damn, I was going to get these... but I am pretty sure the used set of 15 x 9 6UL's I purchased are lighter than this.

Anyone know the weight of the Gen2 6UL's?

Keith

Keith@FM 10-06-2014 11:01 AM

Well, they are stronger than existing 6ULs and the C3M, so there's that. But the weight is what it is, nothing we can do about it.

UrbanSoot 10-06-2014 07:10 PM

Yes, 15x9 mounted with 225/45-15 tires. The tires were just what was handy, the silver ones have RA1s and the black ones have Nittos.

Heavy we can't do anything about, but we fixed spendy.

Massive price drop on Jongbloed wheels - Miata Turbo Forum - Turbo Kitten is watching you test compression.

And yes, we are giving a refund equivalent to the price difference to anyone who paid the previous price.

Ivan 10-17-2014 11:49 AM

The price drop makes it much more appealing, hmmmm.
