I have ran >25psi before without issues. So I think its a malfunction.

Things I've changed since then were clutch, headgasket and spark plugs. Same plugs as before - NGK-4091 resistorless plugs, 7 heat range. I don't remember what gap I ran before but it was more than 0.030. Right now I'm at 0.035 and I will gap that down.

Possibilities?
Dying coils
Wiring gone bad somewhere
Plug wires got old
Anti-seize messing with plugs (first time I ever put it)

I would have thought the VICS manifold to have better bottom end. I assume you WERE actuating it, correct? As you said, it's hard to get a feel for it when you have a malfunction. You can never had a gap too small! It'd have been a good emergency mod to make for the test? (how do you tell? Stuttering and high AFRs?)

Huh, I didn't know about the toyos blowing out at relatively low boost. I'm just starting to flirt with 20 psi myself. There are some better toyos than others.... Does anyone have a link to the info?

Both Sav and Rev confirmed that they were topping out at like 19-20 on e85. I forget the thread I'll try to find it later. I personally cannot push Ryans car past 21 without massive blowout. Gapped em down to I think .028 last time iirc and still would break up past 21

But not on regular gasoline?

Guess I'll have to ask them, since, I wonder if they are using the hotter coils jason found, they were significantly better.

Oh yeah, full disclosure - I never had VICS actuating, because, apparently, I put the check valve in the wrong way. Woops. Pretty sure it wasn't working for any of the dynos I ever did.

I do want to re-test it later and do it right.

It sounds like this -

But with much lower frequency, like 1/10 compared to that video. The car doesn't jerk, AFRs stay solid - basically just feels like there is extra noise thats not supposed to be there.

p.s. I got my fuel pump back from DW. Anyone wants it before I put it up in classifieds? $130 shipped, has 1.5 years of warranty left. Comes with 90-93 installation. 94-05 installation kit is like $10-20.

You totally should, when/if you get the chance! I'd love to know. I've seen enough dyno plots with and without to see it makes a difference.

The manifold is weird, there's a nipple on either side of the runners, and cast in is a largish vacuum reservoir. Odd since all it does is vent at higher revs. Anyway, if you do, try to get checkvalve on the right side of that, so if you're in boost you can hold it open? I did mine wrong, still worked. :-)

I fixed everything. This time it was ANOTHER LOOSE PLUG WIRE, this time the cap was not fully seated on the coil. FML there are only 4 wires with 8 connections, I'm retarded.

Anyways, hope in LS coils restored. 0.035" gap is great and ******* huge.

Ran 26-27psi. Have a tiny little issue, though. The roads here are good, but not perfect. So any small bump I hit while WOT results in teeny bit of wheelspin - barely noticeable while driving - but shows up in logs as a small RPM jump. This causes Virtual Dyno to create massive spikes which I have to manually edit out. No biggie but annoying (and mind blowing, tbh. We're talking about 5th gear here...)

VD:

Megasquirt log. Its PERFECT. Look at that - Perfect fuel pressure. Perfect AFR, Perfect boost control, Perfect spark, Perfect turbo RPM. Its just... so pretty.

Couple of more things
- I hit 88% injector duty - woo hoo 8% fuel still left!
- Boost control hits a low 12% at redline trying to maintain 26psi. 0% is ALLOFIT, so I'm very, very close.
- Intake Temperature only goes up 20*
- Full boost at 3600rpm
- Lowest voltage during the pull was 13.4V

goddamn that EFR spools fast. Quick GT2871 vs. EFR 6758 virtualdyno comparison: http://www.miata.fi/kuvat/6758_2871.png

We seem to have pretty much the same ignition timing at the end of the rpm range. I have more timing low/mid-range. Mine start at 18deg @230kPa(4K rpm) where you start with 12deg@280kPa (3.6K)

Holy ****, I can't believe you do these pulls on the street. Huge ***** especially in VA. I'm excited to see what the dyno reads and hear what a turbo sounds like at 30psi.

Holy **** man, MASSIVE power! 5th gear pull to redline on the street is awesome, should have taken some videos.

Psh, not even over 400ftlbs.

Seriously cant wait to see you run all of it I bet there's more boost to be made in the mid range even now, and a heck of a lot more on the top end if you can stave off the det.

lso, did you see BW tested the next speed line on the compressor and it actually chokes flow at a higher flow than they initially estimated? I think 480hp on e85 is possible looking at the compressor map.

Combining the results from this thread (like the ones shown a few posts above) with the fact that in my garage I have: An EFR6258, ID1000s, Rev eMS2, all other turbo bits makes me so so SAD.

I wish I had time to work on my car.

Maybe in the three weeks between the end of the SCCA Runoffs and the arrival of my second child I'll have time to finish my B16 Civic swap and throw all the turbo stuff I have on my miata.

Maybe

Congrats on finding your little problems and getting the car running well. Looks nasty

I finally got mine on the road, holy **** I love it! I need to figure out the VVT and boost control features of the MS3 before Tuesday. That is when I will get a dyno plot that has no value.....

It just amazes me how much power you make out of that turbo.

Surprisingly I'd say it gets easier to do pulls the more power you have - because it takes a lot less time and road. Giant brakes help immensely

I don't think I'll be able to make more than 450, at best. Yeah theres boost to be had mid-range but that **** breaks transmissions.
