I have been told that in 99+ blocks the deck height is 0.020" higher so the compression goes down to ~9.8:1, but I don't want to plug up this build thread.

 

In my application I felt like 0.004 was more appropriate

 

All the Wisecos want .0040" IIRC. Standard for 2618 pistons, which is why they make so much ******* noise on cold start.

Supertechs, OTOH, are dead silent on cold start.

 

What's the clearance on the supertechs though?

 

Negative. My supertechs are noisy as **** on cold start.

 

That seems to run really well. High idle, but nice and responsive. You're using the ID1000's? I'd really like to know what all your injector settings are. I got ID to translate their specs into MS-talk, but, they don't seem to tune as well ever since I did them. I don't entirely agree with the translation they did, but anyway.... What have you got (actually, perhaps just send me an msq?)

What reads that out? I have a sensor, but, do you just plug it into MS3 directly? I've yet to check into it, but since I'm redoing fuel system anyway, now is an excellent time to set this up.

Huh. How much were they? Got one years ago, installed it a year ago, totally amazing great fit for the car.

<echem> I mean, did you get charging-and-talking working at once? Only with the OTG helper program (i.e. you had to root it)?

Mine won't charge while logging, pretty annoying.

 

I paid $500 for pistons and rods, so I'm not complaining. If anything I'm amazed they lasted so long.

Megasquirt-3 MS3 Flex Fuel E85 etc.

You're probably confusing with 3.636 gears

Sorry whoever spec'd your wall clearance fucked up, then. Hand a set of Supertechs to a normal machine shop, they see "forged" and set the clearance at .004". BTDT. Lots of skirt wear, ringland edge wear, and general malaise results. Either that or your engine is broken.

The motors we build are silent on start-up.

 

What clearances then?
My weiscos were silent on start up too till I broke in the engine.

 

Wow. So I did. Yeah, I run the 3.6 gears. Originally, I wanted a set up like the 3.3's, didn't know it was an option. But, with bigger turbo and shittier tune, I'm not sure sure I WOULD want that gearing, now.....

 

But do they make noise when it's hot?

Within 5 minutes of driving down the road everything gets silent.

 

what P2W do you suggest for wiseco's in non-boosted app? the "10.5:1" pistons

 

Everyone is asking Sav about "His" clearances. He sells built engines, why would he give you the recipe? Look up the recommended clearances for the STs, you will see it is less than 0.004". Do you guys know what the factory P2W clearance is? Really shows how the difference in material effects that number! "My guess" is if you were closer to sayyyyy 0.003" then you will have plenty of clearance and not have the cold start noise.

 

I'm guessing 'cold start' has different meanings in Detroit vs Sunnyvale.

 

I think most of my OEM motors are noisy on cold start up out here.

I'd like to remind everyone that the only reason I run wisecos is because that is what the seller happened to be selling.

I bought them used for $500 with rods.

 

I'm not sure clearances are a recipe as to how to properly build an engine. That's like saying Grandma's secret chocolate chip cookies include a pinch of salt, and thinking you can go replicate them from that.
