If so, looks like that might be the way to go...if I can borrow the discs.
Then if that STILL doesnt let me install Megatunix for some reason, I can try the VPC route...and will have to cough up the cash

i think you need to select it yourself. you need to "customize" the install and instal X11 and Xcode if possible. Not sure if it allowed you to do that. or you can browse through the CD and install it.

hell... why do you still need to install it? you downloaded the damn thing.
didnt i say taht earlier? if you install tiger, you can just use the one you downloaded.

The vibe i get from 99% of mac users is that they love to donate money to their cult, its like brainwashed into them.

My friend has been buying every release of Mac OS since X came out, I have been telling this idiot I can get him any version he wants for free. He continues paying for it. Idiot. This is the reason why apple doesnt put Serials on any of their software, the amount of mac users that actually pirate software is inconsequential.

wrong.

apple makes most of their sales based on HARDWARE.

does microsoft actually MAKE computers? hence heavy serial protection.

Professionals that use Apple computers are required to buy all their software of course. What would apple do if they found out big firms like pixar and disney are using their software like Apeture and Final Cut Pro for free and making movies/money off it?

Wait who said I liked ot pay for everything?? lol
I specifically wrote BORROW...lol

Anyway, sense of urgency just escalated to defcom 5

THE MIATA IS ALIIIIIIIVE!!!

Finally got a working MS, and she started...runs like a lawnmower, but she fired up!

As for the software situation...

I was thinking I can either stick with this OS and find xcode1.5, or upgrade the OS and should find the proper xcode on the disc..

So it looks like it comes down to what I can get 1st..

A good samaritan from here offered to send me his Tiger install discs which came with his G4! However another person told me that it prob wont work since they are not retail, because back then Apple sent discs that only worked with the motherboard in the laptop u purchased???
Need some clarification on this please...

Guys, I read somewhere that if in the finder I see a "developer" folder, than I have xcode...? Is this true? Or can someone help identify what Im seeing?

Here's the folder I'm talking about...best as I can describe...

From Finder:

Mac HD---->SDKs---->MacOSX10.3.9.sdk---->Developer---->
Headers---->CFMCarbon & FlatCarbon...which each have a TON of files/libraries in them when u select them...

Im sure Im not that lucky...but trying to go thru every possibility and when I came across that info I figured maybe u guys could verify/dispell..

My friend is telling me to see if you have the develop toolkit installed you will see a folder called "developers tools" in your root directory.

My friend tells me also that the tool kit comes either on the OS cd or on a second cd depending on the version of the OS you get.

Also he says if you register yourself at apples developer connection, http://developer.apple.com/, you can download Xcode for free and register for free.

You need version 2.5 for tiger or version 3.0 for lepord.

Find out for sure which version megatunix needs before you install the wrong os and xcode.

I listed the "Developer" folder/file I found above but I don tthink anyon ehas gotten around to checkign it out...(fyi guys, this is NOT the xcode I recently installed...already deleted ALL xcode versions I couldnt use)

As for the upgrade in OS, yea basically to make everything a little easier, and like ur firend said the proper xcode will be on the same disc, so birds/1stone...

I am registered in that site, but they have only the newer versions of everything..(ie: xcode 2.5 & 3.0)
Unfortunately, the new software doesnt work with the older OSx's....yet another reason for the upgrade...

There's a guy on here that is sending me his old one's as I posted...hopefully that will give me all I need to get set up!

In the meantime I will have to use my brothers computer to get her running...
Since mTUNE & mTUNIX are different, I'll just have to manually make the changes in TUNIX once it gets running...then just continue tuning with TUNIX

seriously, you could end up getting scammed. use some common sense too. Ive never seen any laptop's processors have the ability to upgrade to a different processor.
FWIW I've done this on several X86 based notebooks.. Its just a lot harder.

My old Sony, my current Toshiba, and an old HP all used intel "mobile" processors with an mXXX ZIF slot. The bastard of the upgrade is getting bios to understand theres a faster proc present. I have an older 466mhz HP notebook that has a full size desktop AMD Processor in it.

Heres an HP I've had laying around for several years because I can't crack the BIOS password..

Macbook on the other hand.. well, its hard enough to upgrade MEMORY in a crapple system from my past experience..

Yep. It's like I was tellin' ya, the OEM discs will only work for the MOBO they came with. You need a retail copy of Tiger.

I didn't forget about the VPC BTW. I can't find my copy of VPC6 which is what I'm running. I have an install for 5 but don't know if it will work for you / what MS OS limitations it has. It might force you to run Win 2000 instead of XP or something. Anybody know? I'm still trying to find my VPC6...

Tony, I just jumped to the last page here, but what about picking up a used non-apple laptop that you can dedicate to the car?

It's looking like the only option left...
I got 1 more remote possibility...(unless someone here has any other suggests)
There's a guy pretty close by that always helps me w/ clean/wipe/security/etc on my non Mac computers...Gonna ask him if he knows anything bout macs...if he's no help then I'll start taking offers for a used PowerbookG4...already got a good lead for a non-mac to dedicate to this...so whatever I get for the mac will have to offset the cost of the tuning laptop...

Hey, need some desp. tuning help...doing anything this weekend? lol
