Good to hear another guy running that intake. I'm torn between putting all my turbo goodies on the Lexus or getting a GE engine with a th400 trans and dropping everything in the Miata

Sean 11-03-2010 08:13 PM

Put the stuff on the lexus and then take you time and build a miata. The lexus is easy bolt the stuff on and run a safc and your done the miata is a long process and you will have something fun to drive in the mean time.

car moved tonight under its own power after 10 seconds of bleeding the clutch line :D

gospeed81 11-04-2010 10:15 PM

That has to be a sweet feeling.

I'm all kinds of in love with this...and don't know why. The idea makes me want to punch ricers...but seeing it done gives me an outrageous boner that would get my license suspended.

hingstonwm 11-04-2010 10:58 PM

It is a cool build, but just not my flavor of choice. In for seeing some videos though!!

Sean 11-04-2010 11:07 PM

To make sure everyone is clear on this I am not a track person of any type even though the car will see the drag strip and the road coarse at least once I am not sure what type of car I really want I just wanted my own car one no one else really has and when someone looks at it no matter who they say what the hell is that. It is super exciting to know it will move just have to do some more little things before the first test drive and then I will post pics of that. Also if any one says anything about my My Little Pony its the mascot for the car it showed up on the car the first day of the build but no one knew who put it there it it has been there the rest of the time I think its a good luck charm of some sort. Also if nothing else I hope this build makes people take chances even if you don't know the right way to do something try and if it fails do it again lets see some more new swaps no matter what they are. Ill post more vids when I get them.

Ok now for some more info on the build if anyone else wants to do this build this is good news. You can use the stock miata clutch master cylinder and make a custom line to the stock supra slave cylinder and it works. Also to make things easy you should have a MAF adapter made like the one in the pic below I made this so I could notch my charge pipe and mount it directly to that instead of having that big MAF housing thing inline this makes it look cleaner and one less place for a boost leak.

On another note we bled the clutch line and the car moved like a foot forward and then back under its own power. Today is a good day.

MicaCeli 11-05-2010 01:17 PM

Congrats. Can't wait to see that thing.

Sean 11-06-2010 01:57 PM

Tomorrow I am going to try and get the adapter welded in so I can at least drive it to the end of the driveway and back but I guess we will have to wait in see worse case monday I'll get a vid when it happens.

Sean 11-06-2010 01:58 PM

Also figured out today that with the ignition control box I plan on getting I should have no problem getting 500whp and lots more if I want to run meth. Hells yea

Sean 11-09-2010 12:27 AM

I see that the new MAF plate is welded in. It is amazing what can get done when you leave your car somewhere for the day. For an update I have all the intercooler pipes hooked up with the lower one needing minor modification and still need to hook up my water lines and fix my oil pan leak then it will be time for a good drive. As well as putting the new springs on the front.

triple88a 11-09-2010 02:01 AM

so you gonna shoot flames out the front or are you eventually gonna route an exhaust? :P

Sean 11-09-2010 12:34 PM

For now it deff going through the hood I think I am going to look at ways to make it go down one day in the not so distant future but this works for now. I still have a good bit of the small things to worry about so that is low on the list and I already need a new hood due to someone smashing a corner of it a while back so I am going to cut the bad hood for the test fitment and most likely next winter get a new hood and run exhaust.

This is a 95 supra NA motor with a turbo and were going to push about 12psi. The motor with this setup put out 315hp 275 tq at only 9psi. this should be fun:)

the 2jz with all the acc. shed off and a w58 trans weighs only 100lbs more than a fully dressed BP.

Also i thought you all would want to know that this is not an expensive build due to the fact that i got the running motor for $100 and the trans clutch and fly wheel for $400. It is going to run a supra computer for the engine and the miata computer for the body. the shifter location is only and inch forward of the stock miata location but i think i can deal with that. This is all being done in a garage in the little old town of Mt. Airy MD with a bunch of 24 year old guys who have to much time on their hands if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

and if any one was wondering it should handle ok still and all i want to do is make 50 year old guys with their 03 corvettes and 20 year old girlfreinds cry everyday.

excuse me sir. i was 22 with my corvette and my 25 year old girlfriend was married with kids!

Well if you can get your car out to York it would be the star of the show assuming the 2jz miata is not there. I would love to see a turbo LS mustang in person.

bad6as 11-10-2010 12:15 PM

the red and black mustang had a ls in in too, thats now going in a s10 but ill try to bring mine (all black) but like i said wont be till around 6

Sean 11-10-2010 12:38 PM

The notch has to come out and I never said "you" totaled it. lol Also it doesn't matter weather you are 22 or 50 I'm not talking about the guys that are like most of us on this forum you know the kind of people I am talking about. I have a corvette its the fastest thing in the world lol. I will beat anything. Yea those guys. I happen to like corvettes it was just one version of a circumstance.

Sean 11-10-2010 01:40 PM

On another note if anyone has a 2.5" 90 deg coupler laying around I could really use it I will buy it just checking before I go order a new one.

updates damit!

Sean 11-12-2010 09:39 PM

Last night we put water in the engine and were able to run it for more than a minute for once. Everything seems to be working fine. I have not gotten my temp gauge to work yet and my fan is not hooked up so we only ran it for about 5 min but no leaks. So next week is getting the intercooler piping buttoned up and trying to find a way to make the gauges work as well as the other little things like speakers all the front end parts and front spring because right now it rubs like crazy. So I will post some vids at some point next week after we get that stuff taken care of.......

bad6as................ Maybe you should come by the garage you would know these things already.lol

Sean 11-14-2010 01:32 AM

Thank you faeflora for finally getting me some pics and vids with a real camera and hopefully soon we will have some with some actual driving now we just need some more people for the swap....lol

Slow_Sc3 - your car would be sick and I am sure now we could get it under the hood lol.

18psi - around here it will too but really I dont care I mean the worst they can do is give me a repair order and there is always ways to do things and the great thing is I only have to make it a year and then its historic. No more inspections or emmisions.Yea!!!

My girlfriend literally said "Are you gonna stop coming over that car stuff and finish our conversation?"

johnmatt 11-15-2010 02:42 PM

Officially decided I'm gonna do this

Braineack 11-15-2010 02:46 PM

I wish i got to see this, bitches need to get to dynoz on time.

did he dyno it?

Sean 11-15-2010 02:46 PM

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!

My personal opinion if I did it again I would use a 1JZ to to make it fit better under the hood. If you have any questions let me know I would love to see more of these swaps happen.

Its gonna be a 2j/1j swap epidemic lol

Sean 11-15-2010 02:48 PM

No I didn't dyno it. It is not ready for that yet but I will deff have it at the next one I just really didn't want to trailer it up and then back for no reason if it ran better aka no fender rubbing I would have brought it but I got there late I passed everyone on the way there.lol

Sean 11-15-2010 10:29 PM

Ok so Slow_Sc3 got my shifter fixed it was loose, the reverse lights wired up, and fluids in the trans and diff. I got my coupler in today so that will give me somthing to do tomorrow evening along with getting my front springs in, bleeding the brakes and maybe a short drive.

Now I wanted to know if anyone know witch coolant temp sensor on the factory miata controls the temp gauge. I am trying to get all my gauges to work and I figure the best way is to use the factory mazda sending unit to the gauge. I need to know if it is the sensor on the front or back of the block as well as where in the harness it is normally attached if anyone can help me on either of these it would be great.

jeremiahhh 11-15-2010 10:52 PM

It's either 2L or 2Q...
This one says 2Q: http://innovatemotorsports.com/resou...azda_Miata.php
And this one says 2L... : http://neomiata.com/garage/Wiring%20...20Diagrams.pdf

I think that one goes to the ecu, and the other goes to the gauge or something. More info here:http://forum.miata.net/vb/printthread.php?t=320944
Not sure which year they are referring to though in that thread.

Sean 11-16-2010 10:18 AM

Ok thanks that thread was very helpful now I think I am also gonna run a gm single wire fan switch it will make everything easy and I wont have to hear the fan running all the time.

johnmatt 11-16-2010 11:36 AM

I wouldn't be concerned about clearance with a 2jz with a FFIM. How long till we get some videos of this beast driving?

buffon01 11-16-2010 11:38 AM

For real, the blue balls are killing me.

Sean 11-18-2010 12:23 PM

Ok so I put my new spring in the front last night so I can drive it and they jacked the car up like 3 inches I am going to have to trim them down to get the ride height I want. I installed a pair od 2.5"X 7" 450# springs and they feel really stiff even with the big motor so I am going to get some 400# springs at some point. I hope to drive the car this weekend and post a short vid.

Braineack 11-18-2010 12:26 PM

i have some 7.9" 390 lb springs... probably a wash.

Sean 11-18-2010 12:28 PM

Braineack =Those would probally work to I mean the front end is back to stock height lol.How much do you want for them I need them. lol

Sean 11-18-2010 12:28 PM

I want to get the fenders about an inch to an inch and a half off the tire. I will consider that a good stance.

Braineack 11-18-2010 12:42 PM

measure your springs length now with the car on the ground and we can determine if these will acutally lower it.

Sean 11-18-2010 01:30 PM

Ok will do. I have not had much experience with suspension tuning its always been more of fly by night if one thing does not work try something else.

xeros15 11-18-2010 02:15 PM

OMFG....wow.

Sean 11-19-2010 10:31 AM

Yea...... That just happened. lol

Sean 11-19-2010 03:15 PM

Ok I could really use some help with getting my tach to work. I want to use the stock tach but the miata uses a coil pack and the supra uses a distributor any ideas on what I could do. I was thinking about a tach driver but I am not sure this will do what I need.

Sean 11-25-2010 11:37 PM

Ok I got my SAFC in the mail yesterday will be installing that next week and continue on getting the gauge to work.

Also I have a decission to make I have the oportunity to buy a spec miata cage real cheap and then I can sell my roll bar and get some money back. The question would be is it worth it to have a cage in a street car. I drove it up the street the other day and with no tune and no boost I can already say this thing is going to be scary fast.

Cage or no cage that is the question?

buffon01 11-25-2010 11:41 PM

If you're going to wear a helmet 24/7 then sure go for the cage on the street. It would suck to hit one the tubes with your head without one :)

Btw I saw the vids on youtube. Geez that car has a sexy spool . I can't wait to see it at WOT. :D

Sean 11-26-2010 01:11 AM

Well I am going to get some racing seats and because it is a street car I am going to pad the hell out of the bars anywhere near my head or the passengers. I do not want to hurt my self trying to protecting myself. I was thinking about not using the "NASCAR" style door bars and just use one door bar but I am thinking the stiffness and the saftey if I roll the car would be comforting.

hingstonwm 11-26-2010 01:40 AM

High density roll bar padding is designed to be hit by a helmet , not your head. Full cages are meant for use with racing seats, and fully restrained drivers(5 point harness) wearing helmets.

I would pass on a full cage, if you plan on driving your beast on the street more than the track. Based on the small radiator, it doesn't look like you plan to track the car much.

Sean 11-26-2010 12:09 PM

No there is deff no plans for lots of track time and I have full racing seats for it and the 5 point harnesses. I am thinking of the advantages of chassis stiffness is the huge benifit.

bad6as 11-30-2010 08:54 PM

i was told by a bird that it was doing burnouts on the street! :skid::winner:
