must.....see.....vids.....nao

Sean 07-16-2010 12:12 PM

I want to see some vids too. I am on the waiting train from hell for the wiring. I promise as soon as it starts there will be a vid no matter how good it runs but soon after that it will be good vids.

Der_Idiot 07-17-2010 11:24 AM

Tried running a jumper wire from the harness straight to the injectors? Just a thought..

Sean 07-17-2010 01:37 PM

Yea I tried that and still go tnothin I think it had to do with a combination of things one being the one half of the injector harness was not getting power, two the ignitor I had was going bad, 3 I am missing a signal that comes back to the ecu.

One_Theory 08-06-2010 03:06 PM

So I just read this entire thread it has been kinda like getting blue balls I am about to finnish and then you stop giving me pleasure then you start getting me excited again and now I am flacid with a sore nutsack......So is this finished yet or not?

leatherface24 08-06-2010 03:33 PM

lmao ditto

Sean 08-10-2010 03:13 PM

So the guy that is wiring the car is starting to scare me. He is now telling me he needs a fuse box for the engine from a supra, a new ecu, distributor, ignitor, coil, and something else. I think I am going to have to break down and buy a harness.

It's about time you came to your senses!! Seriously, I bet I didn't have 8 hours of effort to get my car running, including the time spent to find the harness pieces online. I patched together a complete harness from several sources, plugged everything in and the car cranked. Because the factory system had an immobilizer I had to trailer the car over to a honda dealer who hooked up the honda computer to my obd II port entered the code, and crank crank varoooom. You are making things way to hard on yourself cutting corners on the wiring. Bite the bullet, get it running, then back out all the wiring you don't need.

buffon01 08-10-2010 05:00 PM

Do whatever you have to do. I want to see this noooow....

spoolin 08-22-2010 06:31 PM

Great story. The end is a little disappointing. Don't let this be the end.

It took me about 12hrs to read this full thread. Mostly reading at work from my cell phone. I purchased a 2gz ge that overheated from a friend this morning. A quick search lead me here to see that it does actually fit.

Sean 08-23-2010 08:45 AM

I am currently in the middle of moving out of my house and back to my parents so I can go back to school. While this sucks from a social point of view and it makes me feel kinda like a failure I still make really good money and with no bills to pay I will have no problems buying a harness and what ever else is needed. My new plan is to have this on the road by the first of the year I am going to take the time I have now to check the brake system and all the hydrolics. As well as any wiring as far as gauges and fans and things like that go and then spend the $1000 to get the harness reworked like I should have and then bing bang hook up 5 wires drive it down to get tuned and I'm done. Hell yea. This car will be on the road it is to close to not be.

Sean 08-23-2010 08:46 AM

Spoolin if you need any help let me know I can give you a lot of insight.

spoolin 08-24-2010 10:27 AM

Im not definite on the project yet but thanks for the offer.

I have been reading about 2j swaps for the past day or so. The ge motor uses a distributor which I would imagine also communicates with the ecm to tell the injectors when to fire. The gte uses both a crank and cam sensors. I cant remember which harness you have but It would seem you need to match up the ge computer with ge harness or vice-versa. This is probably little help as you are most likely aware of it but I figured it wouldn't hurt to let you know.

Sean 08-24-2010 10:48 AM

Thanks for the thought it is always good. I have a GE motor with a GE harnes, Ge computer and all GE sensors so all of that should be good the problem lies in getting signals in and out of the dash harness as well as a few power and ground wires and back to the ecu where they need to be.

spoolin 08-24-2010 05:44 PM

I should still have access to alldata if there is a circuit or wire you need verified, I would love to help. This build is budget the way I like it, who needs a thousand dollar harness.

Sean 09-03-2010 08:18 AM

Ok went and picked up my car yesterday and I am glad to have it back safe at the house so it cannot get messed up anymore than it is. The new plan is to finish all the small stuff make sure all the piping fits well get all the interior pieces put back in all the gauges working and then jump on the harness one more time and if it doesn't work send it out I will at least give it one more go. I am going to tuck most of the wires away and also the exhaust is going out the passenger side fender and I will have to relocate the fuse box so I have more work to do but it should be worth it in the end instead of rushing anything.

buffon01 09-03-2010 09:16 AM

My balls are ultra-violet at this point.

Sean 09-03-2010 09:23 AM

Mine are worse let me tell you I sat in my car last night and wanted to cry. Also the only time the car has seen the road in the last year and a half was on a tow strap on the back of my Honda. The good news is the brakes work good and the suspension feels good and drives straight so I am hoping to start getting more updates for all of you soon.

johnmatt 09-17-2010 02:50 PM

I've seen this thread alot but I'm actually REALLY thinking of doing this myself since I have a shell sitting out back and found a 2jz local with harness etc for $400. Saves me the trouble of getting a 240sx or sc300 and doing it

buffon01 09-17-2010 02:55 PM

Just spent the last while reading the entire thread and I'm really excited to start doing the swap myself. Might take awhile like it is for you but it'll be awesome

Classic!!!

Sean 09-20-2010 11:12 AM

The project is back under way I have been doing more work on it fixing things I rushed in the beginning and am planing on about spring time to be on the road the harness is out of the car and ready to ship to Dr. Tweak I just need to get the rest of the money. I am redoing my exhaust, cutting and re-enforcing part of the frame where I need to make more room for my turbo, re making my lower inter cooler pipe, and finishing all the other odds and ends so when it gets warm all will be ready. I have to rewire my LC-1 because it does not seem to like the way I hooked it up and possibly find a few interior parts but other than that is is basically there. This is taking much longer than expected but my fiance' stopped working to go to school so that threw a wrench into things. I will tell you that even though you do not get daily updates does not mean I am not working on the car and this car will run before I am done with it. If I have to overnight the whole car to japan to get it to run I will it is just gonna take more time.

johnmatt 09-20-2010 11:33 AM

Good to know you're still working on it. That sucks it came down to you needing to ship the harness off after everything just because you couldn't get the injectors to fire

mx5autoxer 09-22-2010 12:37 PM

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry)

Keep up the good work.

MongER 09-25-2010 06:12 PM

nice work so far

I went through a lot of your postings about trials and tribulations on the 2jz swap. I am planning to start a 2jz swap in the near future for my 92 miata (td04h/link engine management). Dunno where your located (minnesota?), but this was my plan.

* cheap n/a sc300 (2jz, ecu, tranny, wiring) /w after market single turbo kit for 2jz
* custom drive shaft, steering rack, engine mounts, and exhaust system
* looks like cutting the hood latch area and customing the front end frame
* looks like reinforcing the frame below and custom mount for tranny/driveshaft area.

am i missing much.. prolly am...

shifter has issues of 1 inch forward offest. engine has a 200 lbs weight difference. ac removed. was there cutting of firewall?.. dont remember.

Very interested. Just started reading about this when i got up...

Sean 10-30-2010 08:39 PM

IT RUNS!!!!!!!

This post is to prove that this build is not close to over it just went on the back burner for a little while. Here is the first video of the 2JZ miata running. I now have to finish all the little stuff but I wanted you all to know that it runs and I did not forget about it.:fawk:

PS. I owe Slow_Sc3 my life.

Fuck yes! Congrats.

18psi 10-30-2010 10:45 PM

OH SNAP.

Congrats man. This is great news.
There are SO many people keeping track of this. (just look at the amount of views for this thread).
You should be proud:)

Sean 10-30-2010 10:52 PM

Yea we looked at the views and there is 24K plus view I hope if nothing else this gives people more motivation to do swaps this car has $2800 in the swap and should be at 3k when its done this I feel proves that anything can be done if you put your mind to it.

arctct 10-31-2010 01:17 AM

wow, impressed! In for the first drive!! Anxiously awaiting that post.

Faeflora 10-31-2010 03:39 AM

Woooo hoo!

You should come to the dyno day!

Faeflora 10-31-2010 10:20 AM

Here's the link btw-- we will have a good turnout.

https://www.miataturbo.net/local-meets-events-tech-days-41/song-south-md-fall-dyno-day-meet-nov-13-a-52134/

If the monster isn't ready, bring the vdub :)

Sean 10-31-2010 11:54 AM

Yea we still have some stuff to do before we can drive it but the hard part is over and the rest is down hill. I will try to bring the car to the dyno day if it is ready to run if not I will come by anyway to see what is around. I hope to have a vido of it driving within the next two weeks but we will see how it goes.

johnmatt 11-01-2010 09:33 AM

My computer won't let me watch the video right now but congrats on getting it running. You ever figure out why it wasn't running?

Sean 11-01-2010 11:20 AM

It came down to two wires in one of the body plugs that I did not know about. One needed ignition switch signal and one needed ground other than that I had it all hooked up before.

I do have a question for anyone who can help. I need a good source for keyed signal and I tried using I believe Pin 1B and it will not carry enough amperage for what I need so what does everyone have there MS or whatever hooked to are you using this wire to run a relay or am I missing a wire somewhere. Anything would help I really do not what to run this to a switch I want it to start just like any other car I mean I go the clutch switch still working why not just use the key for everything.

Slow_Sc3 11-01-2010 08:44 PM

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0/DSC01622.jpg

i think its time we wash your car now that everything is done :D

Sean 11-01-2010 08:50 PM

Yea I would say so and so everyone know the newb that just posted that pic is the one that did the wiring on the car without his help it would of never ran. He is kinda a supra SC300 guy though.

Faeflora 11-01-2010 10:05 PM

Bring him to the dyno day! And your LS mustang buddy! We need some high hp action!

Sean 11-02-2010 10:22 AM

Ill see if I can get him out there with his sc 300 the one mustang just got totaled and the motor is going in a s10 now and I will see if we can get the new turbo on the other one before then.

johnmatt 11-02-2010 10:52 AM

Still can't watch the videos for some reason. My comp has fail aids or something I guees. I can't wait to turbo my SC then find a 2j to drop in my miata too

hingstonwm 11-02-2010 11:51 AM

So what was the issue with the wiring??

Sean 11-02-2010 12:24 PM

Well I had most of it wired but to make it safe we unhooked everything and started fresh and come to find out there is a little orange connector on the harness that is a body plug and there were two little wires in there one was keyed power and one was a ground after those two got hooked up it was all good to go.

To top it off we got it running with the ecu sitting on the windshield and then labeled and transferred everything under the dash. After doing that it would not run for the life of me and come to find out about half the strands on the wire going to the coil had broke due to to much probing with the multimeter and I wiggled the wire and it was good to go. We soldiered a new connector on and now its great. You can get in push the clutch down and turn the key and bam it starts right up what a wonderful sound after all this time.

Sean 11-02-2010 12:25 PM

Also now that we have it figured out with a completely stock 2JZ harness and stock computer you only have to hook up about 10 wires a few grounds a few constant power and a few keyed power and you could put this motor in anything.

johnmatt 11-02-2010 05:26 PM

This keeps sounding better and better for my 93 chassis sitting in the back yard

jeremiahhh 11-02-2010 10:15 PM

Wow this is awesome! I hope I get to see it on the streets soon! If your in frederick I guess were pretty close. Where are you doing the work at? I'm sure its mentioned somewhere in here.. so sorry if it is. I'm right outside of mount airy btw.

gospeed81 11-02-2010 10:22 PM

Mad props!

In for first drive impressions once it's well sorted out.

BTW...your cat is friggin' fat. I bet it has a spot in the middle of it's back it can't groom.

Sean 11-03-2010 12:06 AM

I hope to have driving vids in the next few weeks Ill post them when we do and we are going to try and use a real camera next time lol.

jeremiahhh - the car is being built in my buddies garage off pennshop in M. Airy but right now it is in my other buddies garage in Damascus so we could do the wiring. You should come by and see it some time you can be the visual proof that it exists lol. Just let me know if you wanna see it and if you live near Mt. Airy you are bound to see it soon and at a minimum I guarantee you will see the burn out marks on pennshop one day in the not so distant future.

Sean 11-03-2010 12:07 AM

gospeed81 - I wish I could claim the cat but its not mine it is my girlfriend's best friend's cat but it is awesome.

jeremiahhh 11-03-2010 09:59 AM

I would love to come see it sometime. I told my friends and they wanna see it too lol. I live in woodbine.

Sean 11-03-2010 12:33 PM

johnmatt - We did some measuring last night just to see and if you measure a 1JZ engine compared to my 2j the higest part of the 1j is about 3-4 inches lower than mine so it would almost fit under the hood. Matter of fact is if you shimmed the k frame it would deff fit under the hood just keep that in mind. Also everything for a 1jz is more expensive unless you use a 1j block with a 2j head then it would save you a good bit of money.

Sean 11-03-2010 12:35 PM

jeremiahhh - anytime you wanna see it let me know its in damascus right now and I will be down there later tonight but it should be in mt airy again in the next few weeks witch would be better if you wanna see it. I'll let you know when it is back up that way.

johnmatt 11-03-2010 02:21 PM

The 1jz itself shouldn't be as tall from what I understand because of the shorter stroke. Do you have any plans to put a front facing intake on it to regain hood clearance? I've been doing some searching for a cheap one for the SC and found this on supraforums http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=575212 It's an ebay manifold made by PNT and from what I've read it's of good built quality. The guys have said they offered $500 to the seller and he accepted which led to about $660 shipped and it uses a Nissan Q45 throttle body

Sean 11-03-2010 02:34 PM

that is the same intake manifold Slow_Sc3 is running and it looks awesome and works great and would gain me a ton of hood space but to be honest I really like the way it looks with the motor hanging out of the hood I am going to keep it this way at least as long as I can see into the future that may change if I blow it up and switch to a 1j at some point.
