there's so much bullshit about the apexi s-afc on the netz. only time it's dangerous is when it's mis-used, just like a gun.
when used properly (to fine tune) there is little to no difference to the timing
if you are running bigger injectors with stock everything else, you might have problems. but usually, most people upgrade their inj. when they have a larger turbo, exhaust, intake, and more boost. in that situation the larger inj. should be close to the correct afr. the s-afc only being used to pull small % of fuel in the midrange and topend. also usually needs some work at or near idle but even if you have to pull 10-15% it's not a big deal because there is little to 0 load there and a few deg. of timing doesn't affect the car.
it's the newbs and people with nothing but internet experience that put a bad name to a useful and high quality part.
like i've said before, it's like parts racism. a bunch of people hating (in this case an object) due to ignorance and hearsay.

btw, no one uses megasquirt on supra's. he'd be better off using an apex-i for low boost until he has the money for at least a map-ecu or better choice like an aem ems or better. there's a reason the miata community uses megasquirt. most people are making under 300whp. over that and folks are realizing that a more complete system is called for on miata's too.

Ive tuned AEM,and its a great system with high resolution tables but its not significantly better than megasquirt and its 5 times the price AND it doenst work on all cars.
An apexi on the other hand is a peice of ****, it doenst have true fuel or ignition control, all it does is tricks the stock ecu.

It COULD be used someone successfully, yet it almost never is. In addition to that it certainly is not a useful or high quality part. I could build and program a smpl little module that could do what the apexi does for next to nothing. Its a completely *** backwards way of tuning and makes very little sense. Especially when a megasquirt can be built for the price of one.
plus you can't compare a standalone ecu (no matter how shitty it is) to a piggyback computer. for it's intended use the apex-i is just fine.

Megasquirt could be used on a 1000+hp car, it doenst have limitations like that. The fact that lots of the miata community uses it is because they are smart, not because theyre not making much power.

Heres a good example, this is a twin turbo salt flat car producing 650 hp and it is running a megasquirt.
In case you dnt know, top speed racing is some of the most harsh and demanding torture tests for any setup and requires IMMACULATE tuning.
Megasquirt = Immaculate.
Apexi = Ricer bullshit.

Dose anyone have any good ideas of what I can do for a cheap rear brake upgrade I was thinking of running the stock 1.6 front calipers in the back and just loose the emergency brake but I don't know if this is a good idea. I have a set of wilwood 4 pistons for the front we are making brackets for and I'm running the corrado rotors as well so the front is covered. I also purchased a manual proportioning valve and was wondering if I just run it inline to the rear brakes or remove the original one then run it in line. Sorry for the dumb questions and I am going to try and post some new pics this weekend while I do the suspension so you all can see the cross member mods and the new trans cross member.
