So I can glance and see how bad I am overshooting my target, yeah basically only tuning.

I don't even illuminate my boost gauge, the thing practically has a freakin' HID in there.

For dick swinging duh.

Went out tonight and got some logs. You can see the VVT issue clearly in this video.

I don't have any gauges except for oil temp.

Yep. AFR gauge is gone and not missed. MS controls and has safety. Boost is almost never looked at. It is coming out. EDIT: Again MS has control and safety. Replacing them will be Oil Temp and Pressure, mostly because I'm out of MS inputs.

Funny how when automakers went from gauges to "idiot lights" all the enthusiasts were appalled. Now enthusiasts are going to "Warning lights".

Pretty sure enthusiasts couldn't program safety then!

Proper oil and coolant temperature gauges are useful on track because they change slowly enough that you can check them on the straight. They also tend to creep upwards, and it's nice to be able to get a sense of how much time you've got left before you have to back off.

installing a tablet cluster using shadow dash can easily eliminate the need for extra gauges. everything you need in one setup.

I tried using a tablet (just rigged) and couldn't get enough brightness/contrast on a sunny day. May have to borrow a friend's newer model and see how that works out....

That's why you should make a HUD out of it and only track your car in the dark. You're welcome.

VVT issue appears to be a cam sync issue. Working on solving that. I think I have it nailed down at least.

Still smokes. Put 20 miles of hard pulls and driving. Nothing. Parked in the driveway and idled for a few minutes....smoke show.

At the track today. Not driving though. Mix of rain and the smoke issue means I'm just instructing.

@afm is coming up this weekend. Were gonna redo a bunch of wiring and pull the whole exhaust system and turbo. Hopefully we find a smoking gun. Hehe

If it's valve stem seals, it will be obvious. Exhaust side carbon is wet vs dry, like flat black vs gloss, easy to see it. Intake side is also obvious if you check, dry or oily. If both sides are dry, and it smokes, rings are leaking oil. Hope it's a simple fix.

Or it's something turbo related. I'm gonna take it out for a drive. Bring it home. And when it starts smoking shut it off. Then I should be able to trace it somewhere.

So, Smokes when intake manifold (between throttle and intake valves only) is under vacuum (at idle) leads me to believe the intake manifold is sucking in oil from somewhere - l suspect related to PCV or intake guides...

As at idle the turbo is NOT in vacuum (as its the other side of the throttle) I would not suspect the turbo - Unless there is some aspect of compressor shaft oil sealing that is better only under higher turbo outlet pressure. Does the turbo shaft have lots of play? (radial or axial?)

Check the PCV lately?
