But...Houston we have a problem. I knew my old swaybar was pushed slightly forward on the mounts and thought this could be a problem. Well, it is. I was ALMOST able to sneak the cold side pipe past it but it isn't happening. Cold side will need to be remade. Womp womp.

I've had the radium fuel hanger sitting in the box for a while. The 104! step instructions they came with didn't really motivate me to get into it quickly. Come to find out the unit is made for every year miata and you really needed to pay attention to 1/3rd of them. Which, do pay attention to them due to this. We had a hell of a time getting the pump into the proper location. There is flexibility in various mounting points and they need to be adjusted to allow the hanger to be positioned properly. It took some adjusting, but it is in, I have fuel pressure, and the gauge works. So win. TBD on if it solves the fuel starve issue.

I had some non car projects the past couple months and got an chance to focus attention towards the miata. By focus attention I mean I hauled it back over the Nick at Precision Welding.
Before i took it over I pulled the driveshaft and it looks like it picked up some damage I missed. After that throw the axles in, add fluid, and make the offseason projects done. |
Got lucky, the previous driveshaft fit with limited modification. Repaired the damaged end, a new ujoint, and swapped to the 8.8 flange. Soup.

Nut and bolt on the car prior to the Charlotte Tour I noticed the 8.8 was throwing quite a bit of gear oil out of the breather. I threw a quick catch can setup together. I'll clean up the install, but for this event it did it's purpose. No oils from a FP miata this year. :)

Being able to attend a couple locals before this event we had a pretty good idea of some setup changes we wanted to make and took some steps in the right direction. There is still some work to be done, mainly around the brakes. We nailed the wet setup. The problems in the dry really were beneficial in the day 2 conditions. The ability to have traction control as an assist and the ability to pull some power out of the car was nice. Really composed and confidence inspiring. Also the rain-x application prior to heading out seemed to do its job. No wipers after all. We split days on fastest in class and stacked up nicely to some good competition. The solostorm seems to like to drop communication at times between the racecapture. It connects but has no GPS. Closing and reopening seems to get it back on track. I am sure it has something to do with the powering of the car off and on between runs. Annoying thing to stay on top of. Only got our first runs on Saturday. Managed to capture them all on Sunday. Honestly, I needed a weekend like this. After a couple years of being off pace, chasing issues, solving issues, and having more issues quite frankly I was getting worn out. I was dreading another season of the same and it was nice to focus on making the car better/faster. I believe there is some course dependency in the results. Wes/Jesse had a lot of limiter on day 1 and I believe we were on the better tire day 2, but i'll take it. |

Nice job. I bet that kind of weekend feels great after the long new-build teething process. |
Oh, forgot to mention this. The radium fuel hanger is not the solution to a fuel starve issue when making turns. Don't buy it for that. Somehow worse than the stock configuration that was giving me problems. Looks cool though.

Lesson of the month. Only use OEM pressure sensors with a mk60 swap. I thought these were. Closer inspection upon installing the replacements they definitely were not. I had one fail at a local event and lost all braking power. Thankfully it was at an airport site with plenty of runoff.
