That's a mean looking little clutch. Are you giving up on street driving? lol.

Yes, they are very difficult to modulate (read as you are fawked if you have to start from a stop while pointing uphill). It's a good thing there are no hills in Ireland, haha.

got the equivalent of a switch in the car over the weekend. took waay longer to do than it should have . Traffic is now difficult.. but the gear changes are so worth it.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379327295 who said its impractical? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379327295 then helped my bro out with his first autograss race https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379327295 The list that remains 1. get the boost up to 10psi 2. dial out the remaining camber 3. track pads. 4. fit race tyre onto race wheels 5. track day 6. refit bits that fall off during track day |

What are your spring rates? You need enough spring to keep the car off of the bumpstops in corners at the track. You also need enough ride height to let the suspension work over the curbs at the track corners.
Front Coilovers : Rubber Top Mount. Front Spring Rate : 8kg/mm (446.9bs/in) Rear Coilovers : Rubber Top Mount. Rear Spring Rate : 6kg/mm (335.2lbs/in) https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1379488921 They're the BR type BC racing coilovers. i left the springs at what the manufacturer had set them to and used the height adjuster to lower it. i plan to lift the car higher for track days, but im unsure of how to work the spring rate? would the manufacturers setting not suffice? |
Those rates would probably induce oversteer with the stock sway bars. You may want a larger than stock front bar and/or to disconnect the rear bar on the track to keep from spinning out easily.
Increasing the ride height will be necessary to allow the car not to be on or too near the bumpstops when you pitch it into a corner. If, when the car leans over, it contacts the front or rear bumpstops it effectively increases the spring rates immensely (and instantly). If the rear contacts first, the car can snap spin. If the front contacts first, the car can suddenly stop turning as well and plow into a wall or whatever you are facing ahead of you. My car is at a slightly uncool ride height to allow my 550/350 springs room to work. Depending on the stickiness of your tires, you may need to go higher than me. Putting zip-ties tightly around the chrome rod just above the shock body then cornering hard to see how far up the zip-tie moves will tell you how close you are getting to the bumpstop with the shock body, and therefore how much travel room you have. It is an inexpensive trick but it works. |
