Well I give up! Never getting to that level. I was going to respray all the arms but I'm talking myself out of that.
Can't believe how clean that subframe is

 

I did the front arms because the powder coaters wouldn't risk the ball joint exploding in the oven. Never again. So much grinding.

The others I just dropped off at the powder coaters and got them back a week later. Easy.

Probably be fine just spot grinding and touching up with paint though.

 

After having that picture posted on this page I don't think I will even post photos of mine lol. I decided to just clean them up to get all the nastiness off them and then put the new bushings in. It's not a show car and I'll hate myself even more the first time I get caught in some rain with the car. I already know I will with everything else going on the car lol. Also, I considered sandblasting and powdercoating but I have to put myself on a budget at some point and I'm starting to hit that point. Still a lot of money to be spent elsewhere.

 

If I would have had to purchase an entire drive train, build my motor, and buy a turbo solution, I wouldn't have done half the crap I did to my car. I was in a pretty unique position to be able to put money towards the superficial stuff.

Try living in the desert. One short drive and your car is covered in clay, sand, and dust like a magnet.

 

Yea, and a complete drivetrain, built engine, and turbo setup doesn't even cover all the other odds and ends needed to finish this car. I have so many parts already paid for but I know there will still be so much that'll pop up in the next couple months as I put everything together.

 

Never, and I mean NEVER say the words while I'm in there as you are getting close to being done...slowed me down 3-4 months!

 

Caught myself saying that a few times. Pretty much just have to ignore those thoughts and stick to the plan of getting it together.

I'm intrigued by your brake line "tuck". The thought had crossed my mind as well. Do continue to keep us updated on that.

 

It won't be too hard core of a tuck. Just behind the cowl until the other side at which point it'll be a straight drop towards the transmission tunnel.

So something I need to order before the car is back on the road is a set of wheels and tires. The problem is obviously going to be traction with such high power numbers.

Due to the affordability of the Jongbloed wheels I'm considering buying 6 of them, 4 of which will have a sticky street tire on them for normal days of driving around and any road trips I take the car on. Then on 2 of them I'll have a set of drag radials for those late nights in Mexico since I'm not going to run a slick and skinny on the street.

Now I just need to figure out which street tire will be sticky enough but still be able to handle the added miles I hope to put on the car. I guess I could give a set of 225/45/15 Rivals a try if I can find them anywhere. I'm just doubtful of them being sticky enough. I'm almost tempted to try out some RA1's or something.

Can't seem to find any wider drag radials right now unless I'm blind and/or suck at google. But this is the only option I found. I was really hoping for a taller and wider tire than that, but seeing how the max height I can go on stock quarters is 24.5" I'm SOL

I'm more focused on road course/autox, but the new Maxxis 245's are what I went with. Fattest width on a "street" tire that I've come across and pairing them with Jong's was an easy choice both financially and aesthetically.

I have a feeling i'll end up with the R1R this time around.

The days of getting out the door with a good tire for under $500 are over... :(

They're on backorder, but our cars aren't moving anytime soon.

 

What makes you want to go with the R1R? From my quick search they don't look like they do all that much better than an RS-3 or Rival for added cost. Just curious what your reasoning is.

 

Can you find either of those?

They might start stocking them again, but i don't see them.

Finally done with these bushings! Just gotta finish cleaning the front subframe and then all the arms can go back on the car.

 

You know how slow i work... Gonna take 2 months just to get the tires, mount them, make them fit, ect.

 

Nice build man. I'm interested in seeing how well this setup holds up to your abuse. I am considering doing something very similar but it will be a year before I can start spending the money it will take.

 

Haven't been posting much in here since I've kind of been at a stand still with the car. Hopefully that'll be changing today.

If you're going to do it take your time until you're absolutely sure you're ready to make the financial commitment. Otherwise you'll be really stressed out as things progress and it's a lot more expensive than you ever expected.

I cannot thank Bryan from Fab9 enough for everything he's done to make this happen.

Hopefully will be picking up most of my leftover parts that are at Fab9 this weekend and progress should be a bit more steady in here.

 

Made a little but of progress today after I picked up my oil pump from Fab9.
