The car is clearly too heavy.. needs more carbon.

It is a bit heavy at 2180lb. The idea was not to spend any more time on this car. And start working on the carbon fibre car.

doesn't need carbon, just more plates.

it was an xtd clutch from "Aimco Clutch Co."
XTD HD Clutch 9 5lbs Racing Flywheel Kit 1989 1993 Miata 1 6L MX5 MX 5 | eBay

They are refusing to get back to us on this issue. A clutch should not fail so quickly.
If anyone knows these guys, i'd appreciate any help.... it's hard as we are over in AUS and the clutch came from USA. $500 down the drain.

Don't you have clutch/flywheel shops in AUS? I took a disc in that condition to my local clutch shop and they just replaced the worn friction pads with new (cerametallic) pads and built me a pressure plate. $300 US for a 400ftlbs setup. These guys were quite knowledgeable as they deal primary with commercial applications (big trucks).

That said- I would prefer "captured" springs if going with a sprung hub in high power application.

New clutch is in, and it drives fine. Can feel no vibrations, and it doesn't slip. Finally a break...
I need to make a battery isolator, the battery keeps going flat as the car isn't driven enough.

On another note, I am going to redo the side window on the fastback. Due to the black "trim" on the bottom edge looking awkward. I am going to make it longer. One pic is showing how much is going to be cut out, the other what it will look like when done. I was watching a late model Porsche 9## drive past and noticed the side window profile looks stretched compared to the older models. So, it should look a bit sleeker, and hide the black "trim".

I get asked that question all the time. Too many projects, not enough time...
I only have a couple of days work left on it. Then I can make the final moulds. Hopefully will be ready by august, after I get back from holidays in europe. Doing Nurburgring and Spa.

Are you surprised that clutch failed? You're racing with it from the get go :P.

I sold the silver 2001 that I have been using as a track car. The idea was so I can finish this car. Then I found a Holden commodore race car for sale, so decided to buy that.
It's a 1982 5.0l V8 with 5 speed, log booked and almost ready for its first race in 2 weeks. 18x9.5" wheels and Pirelli slicks.

So what's happening with the MX5??? It is now being built as a 2B Production Sports Car. I am no longer doing Time Attack with it.

It now has steel front and rear 1/4's. It will still have Carbon fibre doors, roof, trunk and hood. Part of 2B rules is it has to run oem turbo and manifold. So I have removed the big turbo and aftermarket manifold, the '99 inlet manifold with 8 injectors is gone too. And in its place is a 2002 flat top inlet, and a Mazdaspeed IHI turbo and factory cast manifold.
I know I have said this car should be finished soon, but I am hoping this time it will be. I pulled all the bits off the 2001 track car, so most of those bits will be going on this car. Meaning I have most things to get it going. MS3 will be going in, and will be running on E85. I am buying 1000cc injectors today and plugs to suit.

When I installed the 3" on my track car I was getting heaps of boost creep, and had to put the 2.25" back on. So this time I have attacked the turbo housing with the die grinder. I made a valley leading to the wastegate port to introduce more airflow into the wastegate. I also made the hole slightly bigger and scooped the far side of the hole to have a scoop effect facing the air flow, and unshrouded the exit path. While I was at it, I cleaned up the cast manifold.

I want it to make about 270-290hp at the wheels. The Mazdaspeed turbo was making 240hp with the 2.25" exhaust on a high mile stock 2001 motor on premium.
And it should weigh around 1800 pounds finished. So will still be light.
