doesn't always go as planned. That's why practice happens. Bought my own land so I could have this kind of fun legally. No tickets for this guy.

I made a decision today... This thing has been sitting in the corner of the shop for about a year now. Time to put it to good use.

Good luck... Those things are wide.

Four liter?

Looks like a 1uz-fe. From an ls400?
OP, I don't doubt that you could do this, but it will be an extreme pain in the dick all the way. That being said, it has been done before, and you seem like the type who will probably go for it anyway. I can generally score parts for these pretty cheaply. Sex toys are on the house. |

Crazy!

I don't deal much with snow but wouldn't it be advisable to have a little bit of turn up at the rear of the skis in case you have to back up a few feet so that it doesn't go to the Center of the Earth?
|
WAIT: My comment made no sense at all. |
Look like old school snow mobile skis? Also curious if they are going to have any issues just rotating and going nose down into the snow. Very interested to see how well that works.

That was the first time I've seen a miata get rescued by a tractor, & I love it. I like your "weld A to B & see what happens" approach.
|
I do have measuring tape at least so some of the parts are the same length. (almost)
|
I don't weld, so don't take that as a critique! This is coming from a guy who once accidentally superglued his hands to his face for God's sake...

Does this thing not look like an amputee now?
Attachment 181857 Didn't even make it out of the shop fully. Basically drove out into some soup. Attachment 181858 Didn't make it very far into the snow. I need more traction. Like tracks. Those would be great. Maybe one day. Attachment 181859 Attachment 181860 I honestly wasn't thinking this thing could get any stupider looking. Then I added some T-rex arms to the front... Attachment 181861 It's strange how close in size these things look. Attachment 181862 Attachment 181863 Ya and I wasn't watching what was going on when pulling it out of the bush with the tractor. Too caught up in why it wasn't moving, finally got off the tractor and discovered my problem. I have a wedge situation. Attachment 181864 Attachment 181865 With that, we identify the weak spots. Reinforce. Find some more traction. And we'll be back at er if the snow sticks around. Otherwise it's v8 time! |
Lucky the studs or hubs held up and your skis are the part that failed.
Probably a good idea to run the spacer as it is kind of sacrificial should something go very wrong. |
Snow skis don't have metal bottoms. Use some plastic strips underneath to reduce the coefficient of friction. That's what they do on the bottom of a lot of air boats around here to go across the dry ground. Increasing your surface area will also help with reducing the drag. Search for polymer sheet and the countersink bolts to mount it.

well now I just want an air boat...
