Sure is.

I spent yesterday evening chasing down my friends 1.6@7psi

He was on Goodyear slicks and me on RA1's, insanely fun for as slow as it was going compared to my old motor (150hp vs 350hp)

I know you'll appreciate tracking an NA car, I highly recommend stripping it though, need all the weight out that you can get.

RE: Absurdflow parts in the daily...do you have A/C or P/S in the daily? If so, then nope.

Also, I think this is a great idea. Subb'ed for the journey!

Yeah, I don't know what to do then. Can I ship you this manifold then evalutate? I'm going to track the car in NA form and see how it goes, I dont' know that I have the will to sell the AF stuff. It might bring me to tears. I dont' know if it means anything to you, but I really felt like I was watching the end of Braveheart when I pull that downpipe.

I'm starting to seriously consider picking up a N/A shitbox focused for track use with what I've been reading from you lately.

I don't really know how the car will drive as power goes up, I need to get some time in the car and see what I think and what I feel.

Emilio, you see what you started with that awesome orange car of yours?

In for fuel/timing maps and dyno runs on this one.

Fireindc 08-28-2012 11:35 AM

Working fast I see. Stoked to see some numbers on this beast. I may joke and talk shit (lovingly, sweet prince), but if I were building a track car you can damn sure it would be a budget N/A build.

Anyways carry on.

I'm in a huge pinch, I have to travel to New Orleans as early as Thursday, so this car needs to be done and ready for the dyno tomorrow night.

I need an intake with an IAT bung. Does anyone know of one worth buying that isn't too expensive?

Question:
When you take-off the 99IAC valve, is there enough room to make a plate and weld a bung for the IAT? I'm afraid to drill and tap the square top plenum.

curly 08-28-2012 12:04 PM

Drill and tap a 180* intercooler bend for the iat. I've done this for my wastegate signal hose. I'd suggest eventually welding a bung though, as you'll only get a single thread of engagement. Obviously don't over tighten it.

And the 180* will put the filter next to the intake manifold. Colder than the exhaust side...

If you decide to sell any of your turbo parts that help reliability, I call first dibs! You won't have to box anything up or ship stuff.

but less torquez.

I could run the old intercooler-throttle body pipe but don't have an air filter for it. That also has the IAT bung.

Eventually I'll get Abe to make a pipe for me.

I still need to get the exhaust modded so it clears the bumper.

18psi 08-28-2012 12:12 PM

Short intake tube = less torque?

I actually experienced just that in a friends 99: he's got the filter almost directly on the TB and his car has nearly no torque down low. I thought it was just me but maybe not.

not a bad idea, put the filter in front of the rad.

18psi 08-28-2012 12:19 PM

Very good idea actually. Local guy did just that came out great.

curly 08-28-2012 12:20 PM

Been there done that.

I have a 3" k&n you could use. You probably want 2.5 to avoid coupler transitions though?

hustler 08-28-2012 12:24 PM

Can I get a 2" "orificed" cone filter anywhere locally?

18psi 08-28-2012 12:26 PM

Doubt it. Last time I went out to the local vatozones and similar places it was all 3"+ cause they care only about dumbestic cars

matthewdesigns 08-28-2012 12:43 PM

Hope this goes well...already off to a grand start. I'm definitely interested in what the numbers look like, and how the transition from turbo to n/a track car goes from your driver's seat perspective.

Also, last time I looked, Advance Auto had cone filters with various collars that could neck you down to different diameters.

flier129 08-28-2012 12:49 PM

I like where this is going and I'm extremely jelly.......

I recently convinced a friend of mine of why a TTB turbo miata was such a bad idea and he now has a E36 M3 instead. I used you as the main example :giggle:

I'm wanting to turn my car into a TTD/E car within the next couple of years. Maybe we'll end up on the track together and I'll bump you off apex every turn like the good ole Forza races
