Personally I feel like you should build a whole new car. The green glory hole car is too good to be turned into a limp-dick N/A car.

You hate yourself, giving out those gov't checks to millionaires in their multi-million dollar summer-homes.

Is it "limp dicked" if it goes faster, collects trophies, and makes me smile just as much?

Hey, if I don't like it, I can always switch back.

The best part of all this?

sjmarcy will be completely and utterly convinced that he was right all along, and that your automotive journey is further proof.

Looking forward to seeing the NA numbers it puts down.

The Absurdflow parts and turbo motor need to go in the daily. It certainly seems a lot easier to maintain a reliable, good gas mileage, 300whp daily driver than trying to do it in a racecar.

Efini~FC3S 08-27-2012 07:00 PM

I sometimes miss my turbo miata track car. Doesn't take much time in the seat of a real race car to forget all about it.

Are you going to fully cage the car?

And what class are you building for? TTD?

curly 08-27-2012 08:23 PM

So how are you adapting your turbo exhaust to the NA? Won't that be ungodly loud without the turbo?

golftdibrad 08-27-2012 11:26 PM

I enjoyed your other build and posts; you've been a player when it comes to fast turbo miatas that go fast on a track for sure. This build should be awesome too. Its even better that you did all that driving the car to the track.

I can say from experience though, a super light real racing car with a simpleish NA engine is great. I have a 240sx lemons car that I co-own with a couple of dudes. Its pretty simple and pretty reliable. I took my black miata with the mp62 to a track day where we had the lemons car too and did 4 laps in the miata before I parked and got back in the 240. Both on street tires the 240 was 3 seconds a lap faster on a 1:30 track.

Nothing sucks more than going to the racetrack and not turning laps.

Ok, ok, getting blue balled sucks more but only just.

I've never raced a car on the track. But I see the logic in this idea. I think the fun factor will stay the same, and the worrying factor will go away. So win win.

Every tool we needed to pull the engine less the deadblow and lift:

I don't have room for air in that little-ass garage.

I need to make water return line with the remote thermostat, remove the intercooler, tape-up the holes in the ducting, attach the exhaust, put in the new clutch line, and then I'm off for road tuning and hopefully will get on the dyno this weekend.

I will not cage it since I want this to be the car I drive to the track in TT until I get a racecar. When that happens, it will be my car for the instructor sessions with whatever club I'm helping instruct with.

I will reduce power to stay in TTD. I still don't know the weight number so I don't know how much power to expect. Maybe Emilio can chime in.

I plan to corner balance and align next week.

I'm a good driver, but I kind-of lost my way in the turbo car due to other factors and going outside of my comfort zone with safety and neurosis from breaking shit. This is about getting back into driving the car, spending no money in the process, and making the most important track day of any I've run in my life. I want to be nationally competitive, this is the way to do it. I don't know that I will be, but I want a the right car in the right class.

I also suspect I will go just as fast if not faster with this set-up.

blaen99 08-28-2012 12:50 AM

Aren't you already in TTB, Hustler?

I'm a bit confused - why would you drop as much power as you are if you are only going to stay in the same class?

I'm not saying one is better, but the way you man-handle an naturally aspirated Miata is a much different experience on track, and I miss it.

Is this specifically because of how a N/A engine works compared to turbo, or simply a lack of horsepower Hustler? Do you think this would change if you hit the 170hp you are talking about here?

I'm starting to seriously consider picking up a N/A shitbox focused for track use with what I've been reading from you lately.
