Any debris in the oil can clog the .035" hole.

 

one of my torx latch bolts fell out the other day as I was driving... again... guess mazda forgot the thread lock on mine

 

if i had one of those from the get go, i would still be on a 2860RS and my engine would still be together.

I believe in those, and i should definately get one when i do the HTA wheel on my 2871.

I can't imagine an item of this construction could be poorly assembled, so perhaps this is a viable alternative?

Unfortunately, there isn't one for a -3an feedline.. So, I'll stick with my pop rivet, haha.

 

I concur. This seems a little excessive. Does anyone know of instances where oil suspended particulates caused harm to turbohes?

 

I think Hustler is more concerned about clogging his restrictor than debris actually hurting the turbo. A clogged restrictor is a worrisome thought.

 

That is what happened to my 2860.

the bearings eventually dried up to the point where it ate itself and axial play got out of hand to the point that the wheel was hitting the housing. all because a peice of gasket maker came off of im assuming the oil pan.

that's some large debris to be suspended in the oil. i think if you have **** that big in your oil, you've got bigger problems!

 

You wouldn't have to "hack it;" the assembly is three parts: An inlet, outlet and the actual filter material. The only thing that is qualitatively variable, I believe, is the mesh. In the FP unit, I see the mesh is actually quite course. On the eBay one, it's much finer- they state this makes it a better filter as well.

The smaller mesh makes me nervous, however, as it would be more likely to catch particulate requiring more maintenance. Though that's probably something you'd want it to do, there isn't much room for that material to accumulate.

I'm still on the fence about this whole thing, unfortunately for me there is no -3an option available.

 

It happens. I lost a turbo to a small piece of teflon tape from when I installed the fittings for the oil feed line. In retrospect I should not have used teflon tape of course. But if I had this filter installed near the turbo it could have saved it.

Then again, the way I see it, the only thing it will stop is crap that comes out of your system between the engine oil tap and the turbo oil inlet. Everything else should be caught by the oil filter since in most installs the oil tap is right after the oil filter.

 

1) turbo is still making clanking noise at idle. You can hear it from the front of the car and through the exhaust...I can't place it. Tial guy thinks its a loose heat sheild in the turbine since the shaft feels great.

2) AST's were nice and smooth on the way home.

3 Days until they go to the track.

 

It's good to know he likes your shaft

Damn I'm jealous of these...interested in track experience.

New coils and new plugs solved it. We'll see if te problem comes back. The brake pedal still engages at random positions. Hopefully a bench bleed will fix things.
