Bye bye babe, it's been real.

So now we've got this thing. It's swaggerific. It's red. It's got a BP. It has a soft top. It has a stock suspension. Basically, it's everything i hate about Mazdas, all rolled up into one convenient package of hate.

Lookin' fresh.

Lookin' Miata.net. Dat red. Dat 4x4. Dem Toyo T1Rs. (The pinnacle of modern-day tire performance!)

Yes, you see a thing peaking out from the bumper. That's known as "an intercooler." I don't know what it does, but Corky Bell likes them, so they must be good. Corky Bell is the Lord and Savior of Miatas.

So much Corky Bell swag. Truly this is the envy of all of miata.net. The BPV crossover tube doesn't work particularly well, nor is it designed well, but dayummm it sure looks GOOD rattling around in the bay, doesn't it?

"EW!" the crowds proclaim. "This is awful compared to Swank Force Racing's other #shitted productions! Where's the boost? The power? The insanity! This is tame, and mostly done RIGHT! WHERE IS THE FAIL?!?!? THIS BORES US!!"

Alright, so here's what we're working with:

Vehicle: 1995 Miata
Color: Arrest Me Red
Miles: 141k on chassis, 20k on motor

Modifications:
AMS built motor with ~20k miles on it
JE 9.0:1 pistons
Eagle rods
ARP hardware throughout
Ported and polished 99 BP4W head
Flyin' Miata Stage 1 clutch
Fidanza flywheel
Toyota COPs (Replaced with OEM Denso units less than 1000 miles ago)
Begi GT2554 kit (Manifold thermal coated) HAHAHAH 2554r on a built motor. SEEMS LEGIT.
Begi turbo heat shield
Begi Intercooler/piping kit
Begi "race" coolant re-route
FM 2.5" downpipe - Thermal coated
Enthuza 3" exhaust
RX8 yellow top injectors
M-Tuned fuel rail
Walbro 255hp pump
Megasquirt 2 Enhanced PNP (Brain Built). Sequential fuel, "gslender A/C idle up" circuitry/code.
Koyo 37mm radiator
AEM wideband
AEM water temp
AEM boost gauge (sending unit may be toast, currently running a cheap autometer) All AEM gauges are the silly expensive ones with stepper motor shits.
15x8 949 6ULs
Mazda Competition motor mounts
Slotted rotors
Hawk pads
SS braided brake lines
SS braided clutch line

Interior
Pioneer headunit of some kind
Aftermarket speakers of some kind (headrest speakers work)

Exterior:
R-lip thingy.
Some fruity NB aftermarket swoopy miata.net-loves-penis wing.

Does it all work? Yeah. Somehow. Makes magic numbers. (Lurve me some Disneyjet)

THE PLAN:
Drive until MX6 is back on the road and dialed in. Then probably sell.

Things to do in the meantime to make it a better car and get more money out of it:
1) Rip out and sell stupid BeGi "Racer" Re-Route because it's a pile of shit.
2) Install homebrew coolant re-route for much glory. Purchased
3) Rebuild shifter. Currently shifts like garbage. Turns out probably because shot hydraulics and because FM clutch
4) New fluids e'er'wurr. Trans, diff, hydraulics, coolant, oil, herp derp.
5) Detail
6) Ghettofab a suspension

Step #6 begins.

Bought some low mileage MSM Bilsteins from NastyNate.

Back to #6: SUSPENSION INTENSIFIES
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1395169340

Waiting to come in:
1) NB top hats
2) Another set of Fleabay sleeves and springs in a different rate
3) 7" 550lb QA1 springs, 7" 400lb QA1 springs (Will probably run these on the sleeves shown above)
4) Hackjob Summit Racing FCM 36/36 bumpstop copies
5) Clutch master and slave cylinders from 949Racing
6) Shifter rebuild kit from Moss Miata
7) 5X Racing bronzoil shift bushing

Need to source:

1) Big front bar
2) Fancy endlinks
3) ISC/FM top hats

Need to do:
1) Clean up some minor wiring things concerning Megasquirt and the AEM wideband, as well as an aftermarket alarm and keyless entry, neither of which i have the key FOB for, so they need to go. Should be fun.
2) Tune for moar bewsts. Currently seeing about 12.5psi at max, i'm told this turbo should be able to hold 16psi to redline on this car, so we're going to see what that's like.

Need to clean up wiring stuff because this:

LOL @ 2554 on a built motor. Also, LOL at a BP.

Seriously though.. remove the wing, get a real turbo on it, and dial in the suspension. A few simple tweaks and this thing could be pretty mean.

+props for manning up and bringing this thread home.

concealer404 03-18-2014 03:18 PM

A turbo change is not likely in this car's future unless i find someone wanting to do a straight trade for a 2560/2860 for the 2554, if i must be honest. It runs pretty strong as is and i'm not really interested in drastically altering the car. I'm more interested in making what's there not suck. :bowrofl:

Thenuge and i took it for a rape pull or two on Saturday and well.... it's stupid strong for a 2554 car. I think i'll be good with just finding out what another 4lbs or so of boost does.

I'm more using this car to get a "feel" for what a "proper" Miata might feel like. Hence, the suspension work coming. Yes, i know it's a cheap-ass half-assed suspension plan, but i don't care. I'm just looking for a taste of what's to come with the 93. :)

Jeffbucc 03-18-2014 03:22 PM

Join me in 2860ness! Or go EFR! ;)

You, sir... have missed the point of this "build."

Basically, after the suspension stuff, if it's not $free.99 or close to $free.99, i'm not doing it. :dealwithit::fawk:

I have another Miata to mess with. But first, i have a daily driver to get back on the road, another GRM $2014 Challenge car to finish, a race car to build a new motor for. THEN the other Miata gets glory. And it will be glorious. I expect it all to leave a terrible taste in your mouth, but the kind of terrible that interests you, the kind that you refuse to swallow, but yet can't bring yourself to spit.

Oh, we know EXACTLY what you are talking about ;)

Any vids of this thing yet? I bet a 2554 at or near sea level would be a hoot. Mine is even a blast way up here at 7k elevation, but as always i need moar (hence the 2860 sitting on my workbench next to my torn down shortblock).

Edit: wait, is that blue car your other miata? I like.

No vids yet. Suppose this weekend after the clutch hydraulics replacement and fluids job, i can see if the old mount we were using on the MSM roll bar works on the cockpit brace thing on the NA.

And yes, that blue car is the other Miata. It doesn't look much like that any more. It's merely a shadow of its former stuff. It's on steelies just to roll around on, has no driveline (sold it to a nice kid for a 6 pack pretty much), no top, and stock suspension. (Thank god.)

F2T glory, V8R rear end, and FD RX7 trans incoming. I have a 60psi boost gauge that needs to be maxed out.

just a thought, if youre having serious difficulty going into reverse check and see if the reverse switch was overtightened into the tranny, curly and I found that we accidentally did this on a miata that we flipped and it made it extremely difficult to get the car into reverse.

Is there a 1st gear switch that would potentially be overtightened as well?

Props just for the fact that if I have problems when my car can move I'll remember reading this.:makeout:

So... couple things.

Guess i don't need to be shopping for a front sway bar anymore. Looked in the car, and it's got one. It's big, and red, and has red bushings. No idea what it is, but it's not stock. I'll leave it. Stock rear bar is on there, so i'll probably try to source an MSM unit.

And here's a picture for EO2K and Erat. NA8 FPR on VICS manifold. M-Tuned rail. ALL THE ROOM. (Anybody know where i can get a blockoff for this? I need to replace the soft fuel lines in the bay anyways, and i have an Aeromotive 13109 laying around.)

Sorry man, I've been slacking on getting your logs up. At least now there's a place to put them.

I'm surprised that you've got yellow top injectors in there (never mind I see they're 440cc I thought they were 550). I know it was running 11.3 AFR in boost, but I wouldn't think running that rich would cause them to run out of steam as early as they did. The logs showed 80-something percent duty cycle at only 6000rpm.

If you've got a wally 255 though you should be able to get enough extra fuel pressure to deal with it once you get that FPR installed.
