While we're at it, repaint your Bilsteins and sell them as a complete "Benstein" coilover setup

Homebrew Begi re-route stuff. (Huge caddy hose not pictured, but i has it.) Found original invoice for the order from Begi in the box. They charged this poor sap $17.99 shipping and handling, then stuffed everything in a small USPS flat rate box. :bowrofl:

AEM Coolant Temp gauge was a bit flaky on Sunday. Figured i'd open the car up and investigate. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. There's north of 15 fucking vamp clamps on this damn thing to install 3 gauges. The matching AEM boost gauge was just stuffed behind the panel in the mess of wire. Wasn't attached to anything. Just chillin'.

So yeah. I need to re-wire all this from scratch this weekend. I'll be getting a new radio harness as well. I refuse to even try to salvage any of this shit.

Picture makes it look far better than it actually is.

Welcome to my special hell Concealer. Removed over 40+butt splices and 10+ vamp splices and about 5 lbs of electrical tape. It gets old quickly.

concealer404 04-02-2014 11:29 AM

I don't understand how every car i ever end up with has horrifically butchered wiring jobs. EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM. My friends buy cars that don't have these problems. If my wife is going to drive it most of the time, it doesn't have wiring clusterfucks.

If my name is on the title? It's a wiring clusterfuck. End of story.

I can't hardly wait to see what lies in store for me when i attempt to remove the aftermarket alarm/keyless entry setup.

I'm ok with properly done quality butt connectors. I'm NOT ok with vamp clamps in ANY situation, and electrical tape sucks for EVERYTHING. I don't even use it on electrical shit other than to keep runs of wire together before covering with friction tape.

I think I pulled North of 20 vamps out of the red car.

This was just for 3 gauges. There's at least 4 more hanging around the Megasquirt. I'm guessing i'm going to see 30-40 in the alarm/keyless entry system.

What i REALLY don't get is... on some of these, there was a vamp, then they vamp'd the new wire coming out of the previous vamp, then vamp'd the wire coming out of THAT vamp... etc etc etc.

I found one that was chained 4 times like that. FaeFae shit.

OK . . . you win!

But, think of it as a feature. All you need to do is find the lowest-level vamp and pull that. The others come out with it. Viola!! Workload decreased!

Isn't this how movie vampires work too? Kill the original dracula and all his "children" shrivel up and die?

Seeing as I just watched Blade 3, yes. I'm so glad I'm almost done with my wiring nightmare. I just hope there are no more surprises and that I did everything correctly. I'm scared of turning the key for the first time.
After you learn how to solder it is just as fast as a butt connector or anything else. Strip wire, weave together, solder. Takes all of 30 seconds...as long as you didn't forget your damn shrink wrap before soldering.

concealer404 04-02-2014 01:13 PM

Honestly i'm considering whipping up a bunch of weatherpaks or something for this, because my one beef with soldering is that it's not easily removable/serviceable from there.

Midtenn 04-02-2014 01:14 PM

I've been removing ones I installed before I knew any better. That is also when I wanted everything to be reversible just in case. I removed a few for my gauges, but there are still a few at the ECU side I need to remove. No where near the level you guys are seeing.

I think you need to post some pics of the Home School Prom Queen's engine bay wiring for more proof.

I don't think i have much of that car before i fixed things, unfortunately. :(

Which sucks, because that VAF extension harness was the thing of nightmares. I don't have pictures of the wideband install done entirely with vamp clamps either. Or the toggle switch to control on/off power to the wideband because it was drawing power from the radio memory circuit.

I just used a bunch of old connectors from the donor car for a couple of the wires that go through the firewall. Those weatherpaks are cheap and reliable though so it couldn't hurt.

The stickers made me ROFL. Much concealer.

So you're just using the car for temporary fun and upgrading after which you'll flip it and lose dem $free.99 investments? Or are you cannibalizing the goodies for later? Either way, subscribing for further lolz.

vteckiller2000 04-02-2014 03:09 PM

He is falling for dat red car, I know it.

thenuge26 04-02-2014 03:12 PM

Oh I meant that giant ball of soldered mess that was the harness. Ever get any pics of that? I assume you've cleaned it up by now.
