It doesn't feel like the knock I've experienced (in other vehicles) in the past, but I am not extremely well calibrated to say the least. If it's knock causing the misfire, that's a helluva lot of knock. Like insane knock. But I really don't think that's it...

When we tuned it, we did gap the plugs, and I'm running LS coils. We should NOT be having issues with spark blowout. WTF.

anyway, back to Aidan's game plan posted above. Ordering new plugs (this will be the third or 4th set since I put the car back together) and will work on the knock module. Will probably also try to get back on a dyno. Will be having Ben do alignment and corner balance at PRE after the new tophats and control arm/offset bushings, so I might pay for an hour or two on their load bearing dyno while it's up there. Get the SPM damper, make sure it's all correct, and do caveman work on Aidans car (brake lines) while he does engineer work on my car (knock sensor and tuning and such).
I'm not saying it's pinging, it's probably not. Just needs to be tuned. You can pull the plugs and inspect them for black specs and metal under 10x magnification and good lighting to check for detonation. If you see anything, it has detonated at some point since those plugs were installed. If they are spotless, you're not detonating.

They are not genuine coils.

Going to go talk to the parts department and look at genuine coils to see what my cost is on them. Shouldn't have bought knockoffs. Let's remove some variables here.

All this troubleshooting. And your valve cover is in my truck.

Should have taken my spare.

If you are interested in used, I think I may have a set of 5-6 of the super duper LS2 flexfuel truck coils if you are interested. Genuine GM parts, the ones with the little heatsinks on the back. I'll have to look for them tonight but I'm almost positive I have a spare set + extras (for track spares)

IF I have them. My garage is a nightmare, it would make Vlad have a conniption fit. It's like an episode of 'Hoarders' in there

a couple weeks ago my garage got seriously cluttered

I was so upset I took a day off just to clean it

But also:

y'all exchange parts so often FedEx/USPS should just dedicate a route from G's house directly to aidans/eds

I said it was pinging at higher advance. It definitely wasn't when it left the dyno. We even did a glory run didn't we? Made a little too much power and definitely showed a weakness in the spark but multiple runs at the high boost setting made good power without ignition issues. Of course a dozen dyno pulls can't predict what will happen after a couple trips to the coast and California plus track time. I've personally replaced one coil on my car with a genuine GM coil, but I'm also not making nearly what Ed is making. 185 with a 1.6t, now 137 on my 99.

I should post a picture of my garage just to **** you all off. Pretty sure it's worse than Aidan's currently. Maybe.

EO2k, these are the coils I need:

Aidan says these other kinds are more powerful, but they won't work with my singular brackets:

My dealer cost on the right type is $73. But there are sellers on Amazon selling 8 for $230... much better price.

Yes, the amazon ones are genuine Delphi coils. This listing has a bunch of stuff I don't need, but I'm going to look a little more. Waiting to hear back from G about whether his coils fit, but I'm betting they don't work with my bracket.

Well, this looks really good:
Robot Check Robot Check

except for this disclaimer in the listing:
ACDelco partners with other manufacturers to supply the parts your car was originally built with. This product is in an ACDelco package, however the part may have been manufactured by an independent ACDelco supplier and could have a different color or shape than the product image above.
I feel like i'm on something of a wild goose chase. Do you guys really think the OEM coils are much more powerful than the Chinese ones? Hmmm....

What if we turn up the dwell and see what happens? Not a big deal if we burn up some of these cheapy coils. I already have two spares...

Remember, I'm an ***, so that might be where this suggestion comes from.

Dunno which coils it is, but some GM coils auto-discharge if they are dwell'd too long to protect the coil. This has the unpleasant affect of destroying your engine from very high advance.

I wouldn't try that if it were my motor.

IGN1A race coils are beast, and 68 dollars each. I'm running .034" gap at 30 PSI without any problem at 6ms dwell.
