Having an NA track car is about having something cheap, reliable and checks the boxes. You won't have power so you better have the best suspension you can afford for example anything else won't do imo. And this is true in another couple of key areas.

You don't want a wide body track car because A) your'e locked into wheel/tire sizes, B) walking away from the shell is a pita. With that car you're basically paying for a ton of stuff you're going to not need or replace. Also... with an NA car you're either bp4w or vvt or gtfo. imo. There's a reason that owner was building a vvt motor...

(i had a big long post typed up... but lost it. In retrospect it's for the best, it came across as preachy and dickish)
Thanks a ton for the input.

FWIW I have taken a step back from Urban's car. I still love it but I'm not feeling 100% on it. It would turn into a profit-seeking venture, which would take a ton of work and I really don't have room on my plate for that. I want something I can buy and enjoy. The widebody adds complexity that I don't need right now, despite all the other great parts on the car, especially the delicious wheels. You can't beat the price I was getting it for when you consider all the stuff, but there's a negative gut feeling I have right now that I can't ignore.

The supermiata guys run 15x10s on heavily pulled fenders right?

Another vote for something cheap from me.I crashed my first day at PIR and the only think I really hurt that day was my ego (and martins neck) I don't really care that my car got beat up because it cost me close to nothing.
You do realize that it doesn't matter what shell you have, it'll always cost less than $3k to replace, because the value of your current shell has no bearing on the cost of a replacement shell, right? I mean, think about it... Yes, a widebody shell costs a lot to fix. But if you wad it up and re-shell the car, it makes no difference in cost.

I know my opinion doesn't mean anything, and it shouldn't, but I would vote for starting over with a reasonably clean but relatively plain NA8 or NB with a torsen. Bonus if it's already got a HD or BF rollbar. Spend money on a good suspension and HPDE instruction and drive the **** out of it for a year. Then start modding.
This is almost exactly what I'm thinking. I've got my eye on a donated auction '99 that I'll buy if it's the right price. I'll know on the 15th if I will get it or not. Aside from that, I found a smurf in WA that I am liking quite a lot as well.. but I'd really really rather have a 1.8 with torsen to start out.

There's always, I dunno, the option of NOT crashing the car. Between myself, nail, luke, Richard, and Martin we haven't replaced any body panels from track incidents. Knocking on wood.

You'll be very pleased with a 1.6 and good brakes. Getting consistent lap times is very gratifying, and it only gets harder with power.

All of that is true. My concern with the 'glass car is not so much repairing damage from an impact but rather the panels becoming damaged from something as simple as tire clags or even a cone or whatever.

Gonna check out this S2k though....

Sounds like that smurf is off the options list with a potential buyer.

You still have Dani's too look at, and although you wouldn't have the profit from selling your hardtop, you could have a color matched '95 white with hard top for $3k. It's a '99 open diff originally from my car.

Yes but you haven't spent $20 for paintless dent repair to fix it either, so that doesn't count.

Ed, talk to Dani.

Josh makes a good point. I crashed because I was going too fast and am not the most experienced/best driver. I think people are talking about crashing because **** happens. Hell, someone else could hit you.

Eh, "riced" is probably a better definition. Superman badge, facebook "like" sticker. Etc.

Idk I thought the picture was ok...

...but only because it looks cool.

I think there's probably a 50/50 chance I'll pick up this S2k tomorrow... As long as it drives properly...
