Round 2: Wannabe turbo NB6C
#161
Got some work done today that was turbo related. After lots of measuring to double check clearance in the bay I ended up with the below
Evo 10 turbo with a 20g compressor wheel from my old evo.
Trying to keep the 2 scrolls isolated up to the wastegate valve face so I split some of the 1.25 Sch10 down the middle and added a divider wall
Will finish that on the weekend

yeah i have about half an inch of clearance. It's not fully welded to the flange so i can take the runners down a bit to get some more.
I got the bearings, pistons and head gasket yesterday. Picking up the Manley rods and borrowing a ring filer tomorrow. I'm headed to orlando for a week on saturday so I need to order up a few things and get them sent to the hotel so I can button up the long block and get it in the car.

Flying up to Tampa tomorrow and driving over to Orlando so I ordered all the gaskets, gtx pcv valve and trigger wheel for the ATI damper from Fab9
Also kinda mocked the manifold in place on the 1.6 to check on the frame rail clearance
Fitting that big *** Tial 38mm wastegate down the back there is going to be....challenging

Some updates
Finished welding up the manifold, got some 1" plate from a friend to drill the flange bolt pattern into since my brother still has the head.
If only I could do this consistently after stopping to re-position
Got some 1/2" plate cut out for the turbine outlet flange. My hole saw has seen better days so I need to pick up another 2" and 2.5" to finish it.
Painted up the block.
Cleaned, oil squirters blocked and King bearings in place. Main bearing clearances ended up being 1 & 3 - 0.0020 where as 2, 4 & 5 were 0.0015. The rods all came between the 0.0015 & 0.0020 plastigauge marks so on the loose end of OEM
Gapped the top ring to 0.0055 and the second to 0.095
I'm supposed to get the head, oil pan and valve cover back for the weekend. Oh joy....valve stem seals

10AN bung on the oil pan
8AN bungs on valve cover and the start of my coil pack bracket
Head on
I'll get the oil pump back from my brother tomorrow so I can button up the long block. I'll be pulling the tumbler plate crap out of the VTCS? intake manifold I have and blocking off the holes left.
My 6 speed gets here end of June..I am not sure if I should bother installing the new motor with the current 5 speed and swap out when it breaks or just wait.

Got a decent amount of work done today
Coil pack mount almost complete
Oilpan baffle from some cut offs I had laying around
last piece of the baffle I still need to cut out
Blocked off the hole for the VTCS butterfly shaft
Pulled the 1.6
Found the differences between 1.6 motor brackets and the 1.8VVT block. I have some 1/8" stainless plate that I'll use to adapt them. The other side lines up 2 out 3 bolts.
Thursday I'll pull all the rest of the **** out of the bay and degrease the crap out of it. Will be respraying it with real paint.

Completed today:
TIming belt and water pump on and motor timed
Modified 1.6 engine brackets to work
Marked windage tray to mod for ARP main stud clearance
Drilled hole on correct side of oil pan for turbo drain
Welded up oil pan baffle
Did some oil line mock up for the turbo feed. Hopefully this location pans out
Oil cooler & filter relocation stuff. Also added the 4an adapter to feed the oil pressure gauge
In related news the container with a bunch of **** has arrived at the port. Should get it delivered by monday.
Hard top
NB2 front bumper, headlights & tail lights
6 speed transmission
Clear fender indicators
Autoexe front and rear under braces
Mazdaspeed front 3 point strut brace
Origin Labs wing
Should have the skirts, bumper and hard top painted for next weekend. Cant wait to get the 1.8 in with the 6 speed so I can get to sorting out the down pipe.

Lower coolant manifold modified. Reclocked the outlet to point down a few degress, welded the front coolant port shut and added a 6AN bung for the turbo. Notice the oil drain is on the right side now
Fuel rail mock up. Not a whole lot of space in there. Will be picking up a 90* 6AN fitting tomorrow and get that welded in the fuel damper port
6AN bung on the end of the rail. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to run braided 6 from the tank or just reuse the stock feed line.
Wastegate placement. Need to get the motor installed to see if it will fit here.

Got all my **** finally!
Nardi goodness
Carbing/Mazdaspeed 3 point
Autoexe rear ladder brace
Autoexe front subframe brace. Will be getting that sand blasted and repainted red
NB2 lights.
Finally I has a hard top. Mounting the wing will be interesting
Not pictured is another BP6D which has a fuel rail with a proper return regulator etc, the flat top intake manifold and motor mount brackets, a 6 speed, NB2 front bumper and a windshield
Repainting the bay tomorrow and dropping the engine and 6 speed in next weekend. The hard top, bumper and small oem skirts are scheduled for paint next weekend as well.

Got the motor back in after work today
As you can see I had to add some clearance for the compressor housing
I have the hot side and intake to fab still
Need to straighten up the intercooler now that i see the pic
Tons of space for the universal ac unit
I need to add the VVT solenoid connector and double check all the inputs on the haltech. I also ordered up a few things to do the down pipe and wastegate. It's looking like I should be able to plumb the wastegate back into the exhaust which is nice.

Got a **** ton done but it doesn't look that way. Finished the downpipe and wastegate stuff and wired up the VVT to the haltech.
That bastard mazdaspeed brace gets in the way of everything.
To do list
Intake
Turbo plumbing
Random vacuum hose stuff
Brake booster line
Fluids
Waterpump pulley and belts
Upload vvt base map
I'll do the ac stuff later on
