Round 2: Wannabe turbo NB6C
#125
car has been performing pretty flawless the past few weeks so I ordered the rest of the stuff to go turbo this evening. Hopefully it all arrives by end of the month so I can get a wastegate tune done before the season starts end of feb.
I see that people run into boost creep with a 3" exhaust....wonder if I should waste time porting the wastegate port on the turbo

Mounted turbo and manifold up, plumbed the coolant and oil drain. I am missing some fittings to do the oil feed.
Shot of the lower coolant hose and oil drain
Had to pull the front covers and timing belt off since it seems the front main seal wasn't installed properly.
I am welding up the end tanks for the intercooler as well but to be honest, me being a noob and 3/16 being at the upper end of what my welder can do, it's not coming out as nice as I would like. No pictures of that until I hit everything with the flap wheel

My angle grinder died and the hand file wasn't working out so hot to finish the oval hose. (the 90* needs to angle outwards hence the need for an oval.
I hate thin aluminum. I get about an inch of decent weld then the arc goes nuts. Probably didn't sand off the polish enough.
Thicker cast is yummy
Finished the down pipe and tacked together the mid pipe. It looks like it's hitting the subframe but it's just hanging down a bit. I did it this way to clear the Autoexe rear under brace whenever it arrives.
The muffler i got is a little too long and using a 45 off the pipe by the diff points it at the tow point. I am trying to avoid going left to U turn right. Might try a 90 and see where I end up this weekend.

It seem's my welder and I can weld any aluminum other than the thin tubing. The arc just kept jumping around and not making a puddle.
So I said **** it and pizza sliced the **** out of some 2" 409 stainless I had laying around. Ran out of gas so I had to use my mig, which meant grinding down all the pebbles and trying to make the pipes look presentable
Cut and bent actuator rod to clear the coolant fitting
I need to re-route this brake line and wrap the downpipe
The NPT thread stripped out because aluminum so I welded the 90* adapter in. Black anodizing turns that doo doo gold color from heat.
dat jdm side exit turn down. I have many welds to finish once I get some argon
money shot. I need to make 2 more mounting tabs for the intercooler and add the BOV port and a 3/8npt port for the IAT.
Injector connectors are getting swapped this weekend to EV1's for the evo 550's I have. A friend donated a denso fuel pump meant for an RX7 so that's the fuel sorted out.

It is pretty common to cut the shelf up underneath where the heater core hoses come out. Structurally it doesn't effect much. You can come all the way over to where the steering shaft comes out. It makes you huge difference for routing.

Welded up the exhaust. I need to weld up the v band on the end and the muffler to complete
Bent the brake line to get some more clearance. Think that will be enough with once its wrapped?
Forgot the bung at home so didn't get to weld that up today
Angled the DV down so it clears the filter. Picking up the hose to connect it tomorrow
Shot of the oil feed. I'm using -4AN with a 1.5mm restrictor fitting on the turbo
Evo 8 560's with new quick disconnect connectors
Intercooler pipes painted black and looking 1000 times better
My new gates racing timing belt and front main seal are scheduled to be on island by friday. Fingers crossed for start up next saturday

Mission complete!
I took 0 pictures cause...well they would look like the rest of them above. I thought I added more tension to the actuator after I cut it but max boost was 25kpa
I'll buy some 1/4" spacers and new bolts tomorrow and shim the actuator to see if that gets me to the 8psi goal
