No, he just uses what is left of the key. It takes a bit of a trick to start it with a flat head, but it can be done.

 

Decided to organize my receipts chronologically by date. I realize that there are more invoices locked up in emails, but it's nice to have these in one place for whomever decides to buy the car someday.

 

I have a folder in my inbox with all of the receipts for purchases, I have also created an excel document organized by different fields with itemized lists of everything I have purchased, where it came from, and the price paid for it as well as part numbers, it then calculates at the bottom of the document how much in total was spent.. For the VWs I have clear sleeves and binders of parts and work done as well, majority of it was receipts passed on from the POs but I did what you have done and placed them into binders.

I don't keep track of what I spend on my cars, because I don't want to cry when I look at it.

 

I don't feel like printing out the buried receipts but can provide them to whomever is brave enough to buy the car. Sometimes it's just motivation to see how far it's come, and what it took to get to where it is. I'm really just procrastinating before I leave on a trip tomorrow.

So in an effort to hunt down bushings for the NB Manual rack, it looks like it might be a combination of the NA Manual passenger side bushing and the NB driver side bushing.


I have NB Prothane kit, but it looks like SuperPro makes an NA Manual rack kit so I wonder if I could just harvest the passenger side bushing from that. I think at this point, I should just run the stock rubbers and be done with it.

Decided to not screw with the rack bushings. They are new, they will last another 3 years before I need to worry about replacement at which point i'll just pop in delrin bushings onto the driver side and harvest a passenger bushing from the superpro manual rack kit.

In other news... early July I plan to swap all the things finally. I've been on travel a lot (just came back from 10 days in Lithuania, then a couple days in Providence. I'm headed to Boston, then Montreal before I'm able to have more car time)

Then I need to mock assemble everything to make sure I have all the parts I need. I'm getting a quote next week on rust repair and dropping my valve cover off for some fittings to be welded. I have decided that I'm definitely going to remove the dryer and condenser. I think most of my heating issues come from a beat up 25 year old condenser sitting sandwiched between a tired intercooler and brand new radiator. I will replace the condenser if I truly keep A/C, and I'm already thinking about new intercooler setups. I'll likely get big boy piping made and I'm eyeballing the Precision 600 intercooler.

I don't know anything about ducting or splitters, but I really want to try to make this happen. I set a hard date in September for a track day so I have assigned myself a deadline to work by. Hopefully this forces productivity.

Hopefully pick up the valve cover next week to then drop off to Powdercoat. What color?

Is there a reason why I shouldn't swap to a minty clean NA8 gas tank while the subframe is down? I have fuel pump kits for either car, and will also be doing fuel modifications at some point.

 

Do you have a 1.6 tank currently? The 1.8 tank is ~2gallons bigger iirc.

 

Yea I'm on the stock 25 year old NA6 tank. I'm was just shopping around for NA8 fuel pump assemblies as it looks easier to accommodate various pumps since the NA6 has a wonky flange inlet thing the pumps nest into (sucks if you have an oversized pump).

Then I stumbled upon super mint tanks with assemblies for a reasonable amount I'm comfortable spending. I thought it might be nice to reduce the amount of grime in tank before switching to flex fuel, but also am terrified of tackling a tank job if say all mounting bolts break on my car.

 

Well how rusty has the rest of the car been? It's in a pretty high up area, I think you might be alright. Make sure you soak the **** out of it with PB blaster.

 

Car is pretty rusty. I go shopping for quotes tomorrow for my driver rocker.

It needs a new torque box / front rocker extension and two new fenders.

I got a quote, two week turn around with enough planning. Not too terrible on price and they've been recommended by the local community.

If I ever did something like this again, all start from a bare chassis first.

I just have too much work in this one to swap over. If I did, then it'd be a v8
