Only American Car Company to Have Paid Back Government

PALO ALTO, Calif.-- Tesla Motors announced that it has paid off the entire loan awarded to the company by the Department of Energy in 2010. In addition to payments made in 2012 and Q1 2013, today’s wire of almost half a billion dollars ($451.8M) repays the full loan facility with interest. Following this payment, Tesla will be the only American car company to have fully repaid the government.

I think this car is immensely cool. Probably too big and heavy for me to ever own, but immensely cool.

I see quite a few of them in my area and if I was going to buy a luxury vehicle this is what I would buy. The build quality is amazing.

Hey, remember all those ads from GM telling us they repaid the government too?! And in that time Fisker has defaulted, Chrysler is now owned by FIAT, the unions (and us) own GM, and I'm stupid enough to try and build a car in California. Stoopid me.

edit: alsmost forgot--Jeeps are being made in China. Go Obama!
