That's an extremely interesting question. It's one I've pondered at length myself, and I doubt that there exists a single answer which is both correct and satisfying.

One school of thought would observe that there is a significant legacy of oppression by light-skinned people against dark-skinned people. This is true not just in a historical context within the US and Europe; it exists today in southern Asia (India in particular), as well as within certain middle-eastern and African nations, where lighter-skinned people occupy a higher caste than darker-skinned people of the same fundamental ethnicity.

Another would view the situation as a form of opportunistic behavior. Being perceived to be a victim is a tool which can be used to exploit feelings of sympathy. This is convertible into practical benefits such as preferential access to subsidized housing, educational institutions, etc.

A third perspective would be that whitey does continue to oppress the black man by way of things like microaggressions, however you choose to recognize & define that concept.

Yet another concept would be that this is a product of ignorance and / or a distorted perspective. Essentially an extension of the Lake Wobegon effect, where you perceive everyday interactions such as a traffic stop to be an affront.

It's the same devaluation that's been effected against the term "rape" by people who apply it to things like drunk sex, emotional abuse, and physical assault not involving sexual intercourse.

As I observed above, there is a segment of the population amongst which victimhood status is a form of social currency.

lets not forget that there"s some serious Soros money behind this. If the last 8 years has taught us anything, strife and upheaval are the perfect time to push for "change".

So... you're asserting that the chairman of a hedge fund management firm is secretly bribing people to falsely claim that they were raped and / or racially discriminated against in order to create feelings of malaise and dissatisfaction among American youth as part of a plot to de-stabilize the US government?

And if police organizations and departments acknowledge that there’s a problem and there’s an issue, then that, too, is going to contribute to real solutions. And, as I said yesterday, that is what’s going to ultimately help make the job of being a cop a lot safer. It is in the interest of police officers that their communities trust them and that the kind of rancor and suspicion that exists right now is alleviated."

First of all, I'm going to start bringing back the Pony Punishment for people who make posts without pictures in the random pictures thread. And I've got some stuff saved up that you will never be able to un-see.

On what you'll simply have to trust me is a completely unrelated note, it turns out that the word "gerbilling," in addition to describing the act of shoving a gerbil into your *** for the purpose of sexual gratification, also describes a rather odd accident mode of motorized monowheels.

Family Feud got so much better after Steve Harvey. I love when he goes off on long tirades insulting the contestant. Richard Dawson and Ray Combs never provided that service.

Ok, given that this (by sheer luck) happens to be the political random pictures thread, I'm going to *start* imposing the pony punishment.

Feds Still Studying Why Lesbians Are Obese
Update: Total government funding now $2.87 million

BY: Elizabeth Harrington August 29, 2014 4:15 pm

The federal government is still seeking answers as to why the majority of lesbians are obese and U.S. taxpayers are footing the bill, which now totals $2.87 million.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) study is now in its fourth year, receiving an additional $670,567 for fiscal year 2014. The project seeks to determine why “nearly three-quarters of adult lesbians overweight or obese,” and why gay males are not.

In just two years the project’s budget has nearly doubled, growing from $1.5 million to nearly $3 million today, despite fears that sequestration could jeopardize the project and other NIH funding.

The study, which is being led by S. Bryn Austin, an associate epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, operates on the premise that there is a “striking interplay of gender and sexual orientation in obesity disparities.”

The researchers have been busier since last year, when the project had yielded only one paper. Those results concluded that gay and bisexual males had a “greater desire for toned muscles” than straight men.

The project now claims that lesbians have lower “athletic-self esteem” that may lead to higher rates of obesity. Another research paper found that lesbians are more likely to see themselves at a healthy weight, even though they are not.

Their research found that lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and “mostly heterosexual” adolescents exercise one to two hours less a week compared to heterosexuals. The paper also said sexual minorities are 46 to 76 percent less likely to be on a sports team, due to “gender nonconformity and athletic self-esteem.”

“Physical activity contexts should be modified to welcome sexual minority males and females,” the authors concluded. “Targeting intolerance of gender nonconformity and fostering athletic self-esteem may mitigate sexual orientation [moderate/vigorous physical activity] MVPA disparities.”

Finally, the project has produced a paper claiming teens that are more feminine or masculine are more likely to engage in behaviors that can cause cancer. The study makes this claim after finding that feminine girls like to go to tanning salons and masculine boys tend to smoke.

“Prevention efforts that challenge the ‘masculinity’ of smoking cigarettes and cigars and chewing tobacco and the ‘femininity’ of indoor tanning to reduce their appeal to adolescents should be explored,” the paper said.

The sexual orientation and obesity study is slated to last until 2016. The latest grant comes receiving $682,873 last year, $778,622 in 2011, and $741,378 in 2012. The total for the project thus far is $2,873,440.

This is such a dumb study... Why do lesbians weigh more? Because women in general have gotten fatter...

The average American woman weighs 166.2 pounds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As reddit recently pointed out, that's almost exactly as much as the average American man weighed in the early 1960s.

Sooooo this happened.

https://www.facebook.com/ABCNews/videos/10154594461713812/

Ms. Trump, Monday night:

“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

Mrs. Obama, in her 2008 speech:

“Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them. And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

Ms. Trump:

“I was born in Slovenia, a small, beautiful and then-Communist country in Central Europe. My sister, Ines, who is an incredible woman and a friend, and I were raised by my wonderful parents. My elegant and hard-working mother, Amalija, introduced me to fashion and beauty. My father, Viktor, instilled in me a passion for business and travel. Their integrity, compassion and intelligence reflects to this day on me and for my love of family and America.

Mrs. Obama, in 2008:

“And I come here as a daughter — raised on the South Side of Chicago by a father who was a blue-collar city worker and a mother who stayed at home with my brother and me. My mother’s love has always been a sustaining force for our family, and one of my greatest joys is seeing her integrity, her compassion and her intelligence reflected in my own daughters.
