German related, relatively current event: German metalworkers and engineers union secures deal for 28 hour work week
LONDON - A German industrial union has won its workers the right to work just 28 hours per week in a deal that could eventually impact almost 4 million people in the country.
IG Metall, the biggest trade union in Germany for metal and engineering workers, struck the deal which will allow staff to go down from 35 hours to just 28 hours per week for as long as two years, in instances where they need to care for children, the elderly or sick relatives.
A 28-hour working week is equivalent to around five hours and 40 minutes of work for five days, down from seven hours per day. In the UK, a standard work week is 40 hours long.
"The agreement is a milestone on the way to a modern, self-determined world of work," Jörg Hofmann, the leader of the union said. "It was worth the effort. We have laid the foundation for a flexible working time system," said Rainer Dugler, the head of the employers' association for the industry.
Currently, the new deal is only for metal and electric industries in Baden-Wuerttemberg, a state in Germany's south west, and impacts around 900,000 workers. However, it will soon be rolled out to the rest of the country's metal and electric workers, roughly 3.9 million people.
Companies with workers represented by IG Metall include BMW, Mercedes, Airbus, and Porsche.
IG Metall's workers will also receive a 4.3% pay rise as part of the new employment package, while some workers — if they are willing — will have their hours increased from 35 to 40.
Workers had held a one-day strike last week to try and secure the deal.

Some state colleges in California are apparently not impressed by the Parkland high school shooting survivor who helped become a voice for a global gun control movement.
David Hogg, 17, has so far been rejected by four University of California campuses — UCLA, UCSD, UCSB and UC Irvine, he told TMZ.
According to the UC site, a minimum 3.4 GPA is required for non-California residents to get in. The Florida teen has a 4.2 GPA and an SAT score of 1270.

we need to take away everyone's guns, increase funding to police and have them protect us:
ban everything, fund everything. let the govt do everything. the liberal way that never works but somehow never dies -- probably cause all the rich liberals in charge love it.
“In 2014, Superintendent Runcie successfully convinced Broward residents to vote on $800 million in bonds for Broward County Public Schools to invest back into the schools. According to The Qualification Selection Evaluation Committee (QSEC), an anti-corruption measure, there should be a committee of 11 people, five of whom are members from the public, that would decide what companies were given lucrative contracts to manage that $800,000,000 in voter approved projects. Just a year later, Runcie, who was tasked with bringing transparency to the board, moved to bypass those anti-corruption measures by removing members of the public from voting on who received the contracts. School Board member Robin Bartleman opposed removing the public from the decisions saying, “It’s going to be an issue.” She went on to say, “Stuff like this snowballs. Things like this get out of control. I’ve seen it before.”
Robin Bartleman was right. Three years later, the program has been fraught with delays. Robert Runcie’s former special assistant revealed contracts were being awarded unfairly, and cost estimates for projects that are nowhere near completion are booming with as much as 57%. As part of the program, $104,325,821 was designated specifically for school safety. Of that money, only $4,673,508 (roughly 4.4%) has been spent over the past three years. If the school safety money continues to be doled out at the current rate of 1.46% spent per year, Broward Public Schools will not see the entirety of that safety money for another 68 years, or the year 2,086.”

“It’s not just Broward. There are grants given to states and school districts throughout the country, but often it’s not spent on safety. The parents don’t realize this because they don’t read the 1,200-page reports that bury the information. Students are not safe.”

The second I hear someone blame another persons way of thinking on being a "Liberal" or a "Conservative" I remove myself from the situation.. At that point you are already so far to one side or the other, that talking about differences is a waste of time.
Nope, just my thoughts projected outward. Im just completely burned out on the " welp, you feel that way because your a stupid liberal / conservative". I am willing t bet that in reality, 75% of the population falls in the center, even though they are accused of being single sided because of an opinion on a certain subject..

A mate of mine from Melbourne was worried about all the recent home invasions so asked his American neighbor for advice.
The American suggested a 9mm, a couple of clips, and a box of shells.
My mate took his advice but is unsure how it will help:
