As my uncle and his two children headed towards the store before heading to the park together they crossed an intersection to the other side when the stroller became hung up on the curb. As the light changed, to keep his children out of harms way he hurriedly put his two year old on the curb, told her to stay put and pulled the stroller up on the curb.

In this moment someone mistook my uncles actions to keep his kids safe as child abuse. The police were then called and approached him down the street and began to question him. Assuming because of his appearance he was high on narcotics with out reason they began to sub due him, macing and beating him in the head as he fell to his face were he was then held with a great amount of force by two officers double his size as a third one landed on his torso.

For the the next ten minutes as my cousins watch unattended, my uncle pleads and cries out in pain for the lack of breath and agony being applied to him.

Unknown to the police my uncle suffers from Huntington’s disease. For those unfamiliar it is very similar to Parkinson’s. So as he lay there uncontrollably moving due to his terminal condition, he is forcefully detained to the point of screaming for help. He is spitting blood and drowning in it and the officer holding his head only applies more pressure and instructs him to “quit spitting”.

A Warren police officer made headlines across the world after she cut off a prisoner’s sewn-on hair weave. Warren police fired Officer Bernadette Najor, but now they’ve been forced to hire her back.

But Najor wanted her job back, so her police union appealed her termination through something called binding arbitration. Instead of fighting it out in court, employment matters are often decided by lawyers who listen to both sides and then make a decision.

In the case of Gregory’s cut-off hair weave, arbitrator Nora Lynch issued a 26 page opinion, ordering Warren to not only give Najor her job back, but to give her more than $86,000 in back pay. That back pay, of course, is funded by the taxpayers.

That is the question being debated after an incident at the Romulus Police Department.

One man says he was Tased for simply holding an unlit cigarette butt while in lock-up. Seven Action News has obtained video of the incident. It shows the man sitting on a bench in a jail cell, arguing about a cigarette, and then getting Tased.

Did police go too far? Some say Tasers should only be used when the inmate or another’s safety is at risk.

Should the cop who pulled the trigger be punished? Did his superiors mislead him about when Tasers should be used under department policy? He was demoted from sergeant to officer for what happened, and now is suing.

An independent autopsy of an unarmed Mexican man killed by police in Washington state showed he was shot up to seven times - including twice from behind - contradicting earlier statements from authorities, an attorney for the man's family said Thursday.

An Indianapolis police officer is behind bars after threatening his child’s mother with a gun. Police say Justin Beaton is facing attempted murder charges after pointing a gun loaded with blanks and pulling the trigger.
The woman had three of her teeth knocked out by the blast from the firearm. Additional injuries the victim suffered include, A broken nose, Broken jaw and abrasions to her face, police said. Police Investigators found a blood trail leading from the apartment that they shared to the officer’s patrol car.
The arrest document states Beaton, who has been on the force for 9-years, initially claimed his girlfriend’s injuries were an accident after attempting to move a bed. Beaton claimed that the bed slipped, breaking a glass door and striking the victim in the face.
At first, the victim supported his claim, despite the suspicions of the investigators. However, the victim has recently recanted the story and admitted to police that Beaton pointed the gun at her through a glass door and fired.

..The victim said that Beaton had been drinking for the vast part of the day.
Police first questioned the woman at the hospital and had difficulty speaking to the victim due to the amount of glass she swallowed from the shattered door. Police arrested the former cop for the August incident and charged him with attempted murder, domestic abuse, obstruction of justice and battery.

Billy Dean Rowe, who lives near Albion, Michigan is a meat cutter by trade and a married father of four who spent three nights in jail for child **** — a crime he didn’t commit.

“I was in the cell,” Rowe, 50, told Target 8. “I just laid in the bed all the time. I didn’t do anything. I didn’t do nothing. I just did a lot of praying.”

Billy Joe Rowe, 41, of Clio, who police say confessed to the child ****, never was charged and — because of mistakes made by Michigan State Police — never will be.

Las Vegas, NV — Because of the negligent actions of the Nevada Highway Patrol, a couple was humiliated, and their lives threatened, for stealing a car they actually owned.

Robin and Beverly Bruins were out for a drive in their classic car, when incompetent cops confused their license information and pulled them over.

“Driver! Remove your keys from the ignition and put them on the roof now!” screams the trooper over his loud speaker.

At first Robin Bruins found it funny that the senior citizen couple, who broke no laws, was being pulled over. But that changed quickly.

“Actually, I think I might have giggled to Bev saying, ‘well, I don’t know what this is all about’ and I put the keys on there,” Robin Bruins said. “And I turned and looked back and saw three gun barrels pointed at me. And, obviously it hit me. Whoa! What’s going on here? To this day, I have never experienced anything like looking down the barrel of guns like that.”

Multiple officers were shouting multiple different commands, which were conflicting. Fortunately, Bruins wasn’t shot for listening to one command while simultaneously disobeying another during the confusion.

In broad daylight, and on the side of the road Robin Bruins was forced to take off his shirt and hold his hands in the air while several officers drew down on this innocent senior citizen.

A Sweetwater police detective used a stolen license plate to shirk hundreds of highway tolls for months until he was pulled over for speeding on Florida’s Turnpike, authorities said.

Sweetwater Detective Octavio Oliu surrendered Thursday to face felony charges — more than one year after he was suspended from the scandal-plagued department.

Oliu, 42, is facing charges of official misconduct and organized scheme to defraud. His lawyer, C. Michael Cornerly, said the officer will fight the allegations.

“License plates and toll violations?” Cornely said. “The facts don’t live up to the enormity and seriousness of the charges.”

Sweetwater’s mayor, Jose Diaz, said in a statement that Oliu had been on unpaid leave. “I will not tolerate officers who betray the badge or the citizens of the city of Sweetwater,” he said.

The arrest is another black eye for the small West Miami-Dade city beset by the recent arrests of public officials.

What happened during an arrest Aug. 15, 2012, in St. Paul was a matter of dispute between the city and the man arrested, but a lawsuit over the incident is expected to end in a $23,000 settlement.

Garvin Warren Bryant, 43, said that when police pulled up and "swarmed" his car, he didn't try to flee. But officers smashed Bryant's car windows, pulled him out the window by his neck and ripped out his dialysis tubes in the process, his lawsuit said.

The St. Paul city attorney's office denied that Bryant was compliant and said officers had to take him out of the car because they were trying "to prevent him from swallowing the narcotics he just placed in his mouth," according to the city's answer to the suit.

The St. Paul City Council is due to approve the settlement to Bryant and his attorney Wednesday. The city doesn't admit liability in settling lawsuits.

The case unfolded in 2012, when officers said they got information from a confidential informant that a woman was going to meet a man at the SuperAmerica at Snelling and Englewood avenues to buy drugs, according to a criminal complaint filed against Bryant. The only charge, drug possession, was later dismissed.

Officers set up surveillance and saw a woman and man who fit the descriptions of the buyer and seller, and the informant confirmed that they were the ones involved, according to the complaint.

Bryant's attorney, Frederick Goetz, wrote in the lawsuit that Bryant had pulled into the gas station, put his car in park and "was suddenly blocked in by two large, black SUV-type vehicles; one from the front and one from the back. Eight police officers, many with guns drawn, got out ... (Bryant) immediately raised his arms."

Bryant had tubes in his abdomen because he required dialysis for a chronic renal disease, and the tubes were ripped out when the officers dragged him out of the car, the lawsuit said.

Officers "threw Mr. Bryant on the ground and, though they had complete control of him and he was nonresistive, they punched him repeatedly in the torso and sprayed chemical irritant in his face," the complaint said. "Many of the officers then filed false police reports."

The federal lawsuit claimed unreasonable seizure and use of force and sought more than $50,000 in damages.

Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland saw the video of the 25 minute exchange, according to a spokesperson. He immediately ordered an investigation. However, the department cannot comment further, the spokesperson said.

One of the worst days of Douglas Dendinger's life began with him handing an envelope to a police officer.

In order to help out his family and earn a quick $50, Dendinger agreed to act as a process server, giving a brutality lawsuit filed by his nephew to Chad Cassard as the former Bogalusa police officer exited the Washington Parish Courthouse.

The handoff went smoothly, but Dendinger said the reaction from Cassard, and a group of officers and attorneys clustered around him, turned his life upside down.

"It was like sticking a stick in a bee's nest." Dendinger, 47, recalled. "They started cursing me. They threw the summons at me. Right at my face, but it fell short. Vulgarities. I just didn't know what to think. I was a little shocked."

He was booked with simple battery, along with two felonies: obstruction of justice and intimidating a witness, both of which carry a maximum of 20 years in prison. Because of a prior felony cocaine conviction, Dendinger calculated that he could be hit with 80 years behind bars as a multiple offender.

That kicked off two years of a "living hell," as Dendinger described it, a period that is now the subject of Dendinger's federal civil rights lawsuit against the officers, attorneys and former St. Tammany District Attorney Walter Reed.

Supported by two of his prosecutors who were at the scene, Reed formally charged Dendinger. Both prosecutors, Julie Knight and Leigh Anne Wall, gave statements to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office implicating Dendinger.

With the bill of information, Dendinger's attorney Philip Kaplan said he got a bad feeling.

"It wasn't fun and games," Kaplan said. "They had a plan. The plan was to really go after him a put him away. That's scary."

The case file that was handed to Reed and his office was bolstered by seven witness statements given to Washington Parish deputies, including the two from Reed's prosecutors.

In her statement to deputies, contained in a police report, Knight stated, "We could hear the slap as he hit Cassard's chest with an envelope of papers…This was done in a manner to threaten and intimidate everyone involved."

Casssard, in his statement, told deputies, Dendinger "slapped me in the chest."

Washington Parish court attorney Pamela Legendre said "it made such a noise," she thought the officer "had been punched."

Police Chief Culpepper gave a police statement that he witnessed the battery, but in a deposition he said, "I wasn't out there." But that didn't stop Culpepper from characterizing Dendinger's actions as "violence, force."

When Dendinger saw the police report, he said his reaction was strong and immediate.

"I realized even more at that moment: These people are trying to hurt me."

What the officers and attorneys did not know was that Dendinger had one critical piece of evidence on his side: grainy cell phone videos shot by his wife and nephew. Dendinger said he thought of recording the scene at the last minute as a way of showing he had completed the task of serving the summons.

In the end, the two videos may have saved Dendinger from decades in prison. From what can be seen on the clips, Dendinger never touches Cassard, who calmly takes the envelope and walks back into the courthouse, handing Wall the envelope.

"He'd still be in a world of trouble if he didn't have that film," said David Cressy, a friend of Dendinger who once served as a prosecutor under Reed. "It was him against all of them. They took advantage of that and said all sorts of fictitious things happened. And it didn't happen. It would still be going like that had they not had the film."

Dendinger spent nearly a year waiting for trial, racking up attorney's fees. As a disabled Army veteran on a fixed income, Dendinger said the case stretched him financially, but in his eyes, he was fighting for his life.

After nearly a year passed, his attorneys forced Reed to recuse his office. The case was referred to the Louisiana Attorney General's Office, which promptly dropped the charges.

The stop was routine police work, except for one fact: Youlen is not a Manassas officer. The citation came courtesy of the private force he created that, until recently, he called the “Manassas Junction Police Department.”

He is its chief and sole officer.

He is a force of one.

And he is not alone. Like more and more Virginians, Youlen gained his police powers using a little-known provision of state law that allows private citizens to petition the courts for the authority to carry a gun, display a badge and make arrests. The number of “special conservators of the peace” — or SCOPs, as they are known — has doubled in Virginia over the past decade to roughly 750, according to state records.
