Are you doing it for $70 shipped to me?

lazzer408 08-28-2007 12:17 AM

Where are you? Anywhere in the usa is $10 shipping. +$60 for coils = $70 shipped.

No pun intended? :gay:

I have kept quiet on this, not sure why. Anyways. Lazzer earlier mentioned that the Miata TPS sensor connector almost fits. Well it is probably a Mitsubishi TPS.

The Mitsubishi TPS plug fits over the COP terminal nearly perfectly, it is just slightly oversize horizontally (1mm at most), all the pins seem to connect and the connector stays on very securely.

The plug is easily found on Mitsubishi 4 cylinder cars both SOHC and DOHC.

Some of your cheaper yards may have a ton of these lying around.

89-92 Eagle Summit, Dodge Colt, Plymouth Colt, Mitsubishi Mirage
93-95 (or 96/97 can't recall the last year they made the 4G) Eagle Summit, Dodge Colt, Plymouth Colt, Mitsubishi Mirage
90-94 Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser.

I have NOT tested the connectors with a harness yet, and I am posting this because it does not look like I will anytime soon, I have too much stuff going on.

So don't come crying to me if they do not work, I am 95% positive they will work and they are super cheap and plentiful.

TurboTim 08-28-2007 03:56 PM

I hope I get my COPs today :)

y8s 08-28-2007 05:48 PM

ok well how about a part number and a website...?

Toyota P/N 90980-11885 for the coil connector.

www.discounttoyotaparts.com
www.partznet.com

Never used either. Put the p/n in the 'search by factory p/n' and put 'Toyota' and it should pull it up. $4.42 each. I have NO idea if that comes with pins. Toyota lists pins but nobody seems to have them listed on the parts sites. 82998-12790 (tin) and 82998-12780 (gold bling).

Best yet? 400+ pages of Toyota connector repair details and p/ns!

Cheaper then GM thats for sure. Does it include the metal connectors or is that just the plastic plug?

I bit the bullet and ordered 4 connectors from Toyota. I guess I'll see if they have pins or not. And if not, I'll try to find those too.... heh!

firedog25 08-29-2007 03:30 PM

I got mine today.

Loki047 08-29-2007 04:28 PM

Hey lazzer next time you go to the junkyard want some company? I could probably snag a set of these.

Make sure to let us all know what that goes... I'm really hoping they come with pins, but something tells me they don't.

The fact that they show a different p/n for a "repair wire" with a pin crimped on is a bad sign huh?

Even still, there's a lot of pins out there. Maybe something else fits... or maybe I can hunt down the OEM and get samples that way. I've already checked about ten different OEMs and none of them are it.

beerslurpy 08-29-2007 07:10 PM

Sweet, hope mine arrive soon.

fmowry 08-29-2007 07:14 PM

Once I get mine, I'll see what my buddies can come up with for pins. They've made a DSM COP setup for years.

I've also got a big Packard crimper/connector set that the PO of my car threw in with the purchase. Might have something in there.

I placed the order but they're short 2 coils. I'll give it a few days to see if they come up with more. Apperently they sold 2 out of the 12 I told them I wanted. If one of you guys doesn't mind waiting let me know. I'd rather have someone volunteer then just leave you hanging. I can have these 10 shipped but it might be a week or two before I get the other 2 coils. If this is a problem let me know.

ampz 08-30-2007 07:40 AM

w00t!!!

Mine arrived today!
Manny Thanks Lazzer :)

beerslurpy 09-01-2007 01:55 PM

Kickass, mine arrived.

What did you guys use to splice wired together? I usually use electricians twist caps for everything, but they won't look very nice under the hood.

I'm still waiting for my oil cooler parts from racer parts wholesale. It has taken them weeks to fulfill my order. I really am turned off by this.

ampz 09-01-2007 05:51 PM

I've almost always used solder and heatshrink for permanent stuff... :)twist and elcetrical tape for testing/semi permanent.

Schematic update for MS owners.

Attachment 215916

Schematic update for MS owners.

Splitime 09-03-2007 05:31 PM

Tach with MS!

Got the tach working with MS!

MS1 v3.0
90-93 Miata

Ran a 1k resistor between Blu (12v ignition power) and the Tach wire (4, yel/blu). I now have a working tach, have not driven around or abused it... but it works to rev and idle.

For MS, you do not need to combine the Yel/Blu (4) and Blk/Wht (5). Blk/Wht is there for the OEM Ecu to provide a 1v feed into the ignitor, which explains why the OEM Ecu can get Tach working with the COPs and the 4/5 merged.

Lazzer is going to update schematics.... but for now, we having working solution for MS.

lazzer408 09-03-2007 05:34 PM

You -could- connect the black/white as shown and put the 1k from 12v to black/white at the MS itself rather then under the hood.

jayc72 09-03-2007 10:10 PM

When should we expect out COPs?

neogenesis2004 09-03-2007 10:18 PM

Yewl be teh uber 1337!

lazzer408 09-04-2007 02:16 AM

I've ordered them but as I mentioned I'm 2 short. I'm waiting to hear about those. I told him I was buying all 12 but someone sold 2 of them. Hold tight, I'm busting balls about it.

lazzer408 09-06-2007 06:23 PM

Well I ordered the 10 they had. I'm waiting for 2 more. Of the 3 people who ordered coils, someone is going to have to wait for the remaining 2. I'm giving them a set of connectors for the trouble. Any volunteers?

I also have one extra set of connectors. You might have to extend the wire from the terminal itself because the pigtail was cut short. (about 1"). Someone make me an offer on them.

firedog25 09-06-2007 06:42 PM

Just in case someone was looking for plugs for their coils.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...em280149204603

I just picked up the first set.

Braineack 09-06-2007 07:30 PM

the toyota connectors I got are just the housings. NO PINS. maybe I'll order those from GMpartsdirectrapemyass

lazzer408 09-07-2007 04:21 PM

Coils are shipped.

cjernigan, I sent the 2 coils and the connectors so at least you can get going on your harness and hold-downs.

denied! Maybe some small spade connectors will fit in that plug? Or how about ECU pins? Something along those lines.

jayc72 09-07-2007 05:31 PM

Sweet, thanks! Now in 4-6 weeks I'll have some coils! :)

soflarick 09-08-2007 12:48 PM

Anyone find a source for the male pins that fit into the coil connector plugs? I am trying to figure out a way to use male pins to plug into my OEM coil plugs so I don't have to cut into the harness. Thanks.

Just cut um. Leave yourself a few inches on the connectors so you can solder them back in. But you won't want to. :)

StankCheeze 09-09-2007 06:28 PM

I might be able to get a hold of quite a few connectors from the U-Pull here. The wires are REALLY short on them, but they do have pins.

fmowry 09-10-2007 07:23 AM

I've got a big pack of various connectors, and a friends shop who developed some COPs that might have similar connector. I'll see what I can come up with when I get the coils from lazzer408.

Frank

y8s 09-10-2007 10:43 AM

frank, you want a connector shell from the toyota to fit a pin into to see if we can get other pins somewhere? the shells are super cheap.

StankCheeze 09-10-2007 11:18 AM

How are you guys doing the 12v, are you running a single wire from the miata harness and splicing it four times, or are you running four separate wires from the miata harness all the way down to the pins on the plug?

I know ELECTRICALLY it doesn't matter much, but for packaging reasons, I'd assume the 4-splice method is much cleaner.

Braineack 09-10-2007 11:40 AM

ill be placing an order for ecu contact/pins/terminals today matt....so if you can wait ill get some for you as well, should work with our housings.

Where do we get out tach output on the NBs? I haven't gone through the schematic. I assume it comes from the crank sensor though.

I think you can pull it from the gray diagnostic box near the driver shock tower.

Frank

y8s 09-10-2007 01:36 PM

actually I'm not sure. the hydra gets tach from the crank sensor.

let me check my manjual.

edit I lied. the hydra provides the tach signal, formerly pin 3O on the 2001.
