Here's my 2 cents. Don't even think about buying a chinacharger. I had one and it lasted about 200 miles, seriously. The housings were good, but the CHRA had bearing failure. 200 miles on a ball bearing turbo means it's a piece of ****. I would never buy anything unless it says garrett on it. I am running a T25 from an SR20DET that I bought on e-bay for 200 bucks. I love it. It's rebuildable, it's quality. I am running 7psi, but I was told it would hold 13-14psi to redline? On my car with a standalone, 14psi could be close to 300hp tuned properly of course. I saw a guy with a 2001 make 244hp to the wheels at 11psi. So used garrett...YES, new garrett BB (GT2554, GT2560)...EVEN BETTER, Chinacharger....**** THAT.

ok so one last noobish question: you guys say ebay, but when I log into there and type "t25 turbo" or "gt28 turbo" or "t3 turbo" etc etc etc i get NOTHING BUT stupid bs chinachargers....I mean, do you really have to scroll through like 10 pages of that bullshit just in case there is a real turbo off a real sr20 or 300zx in there, or is there an easier way?

BTW for everyone that thinks chinachargers are crap..

This guy has been supplying $1500 turbo kits for the 2jz for years now.

and also a couple of other peoples' setups convinced me to go this route.
The only known dyno charts for a similar turbo are from member 4sfed5, who is making 200 whp @ only 7 psi from his IHI vf10, and this guy who is claiming 270 whp @ 1 bar boost: https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/sho...ighlight=TD04L
So, I say, go for it! If I were to redo mine from the beginning I would use the ebay cast log manifold and use an adapter plate.

I still haven't finished mine... But, since we are on the subject of inexpensive turbo choices, the TD04L-13T I'm using (got mine for $130 with 45k miles on it), is an excellent turbo to use on the miata engine. My analysis (post #32 and #51 of this thread: https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/sho...ht=SCCA+proper

I always wanted to try that, ive seen a few threads myself with miata's making around 200-250whp on a td04, and ive seen MANY MANY wrx's put down 240whp/290wtq and the wrx has much lower compression than a miata. that is great. the other positive is that i have access to SHITLOADS of wrx tdo4's, my friend literally has a full crate of them from previous swaps (owns a shop), and they are not pos chinachargers that i would have to check every week to make sure its not falling apart. lol

As for threads on TD04's I havent seen any at all? Maybe you're talking about the Greddy TD04? If so, that's a completely different animal.

in that case I believe I am mistaken: ive seen threads that say td04 but forget just how large of a family the "td04" is lol, ranges everything from greddy to srt4 stockers to wrx stockers.....my mistake
I just called up my buddy and he has a spare wrx engine for my taking, so hopefully ill folow in your footsteps and go that route when im ready. you say you would have went with a log type cast mani if you could? why is that? the tubular looks much superior in design, or am i missing something?
Oh and threadstarter, if you chose to take the wrx turbo route, hit me up
better price than the chinacharger, GUARRANTEED

With a 1.8 though there's several other manifold choices that could work, including some that mount the turbo lower down.
