Round stock would definitely help on the OD of the outer, as it is just round, thus cheaper to turn the OD as opposed to wire EDM. Because it is flat and only .003" less than nominal, I think it will be a tossup.

Surface grinding? Sure, we do that. Are you talking like a ball bearing linear actuator or something?

drool :P
so this is the drawing then? Is this what Loki will use to be able to create the gears, or just the "data" .
Sorry I'm such a noob with this, I just really have no idea what the process is. Looks good though.

I want to make some changes to the model.
http://www.miataroadster.com/gears.html

Looking at the picture they provide there are no recesses going into the flat sections on the inner gear. It might be something for us to consider. Removing that space

You are talking about the 2 flat sections on the inner that lock into the crank right? I see the recess on the miataroadster ones also...

They look identical to the CAD.

the recesses are there. and probably needed so you dont end up with the crank interfering with whatever corner you have at the intersection of the flat and radius.

Don't be so modest and take credit due.
Matt crunched your numbers to make the model.

While we're chest thumping, wasn't this my idea?

Teflon isn't nearly strong enough to be a differential gear.. Teflon coating, maybe.

I'll make a version of the gear for you with that change but try it on your own before rolling into "production".

regarding the teflon thing, we're not making anything out of teflon. for one it cold flows.

Thanks for clearing that up, I ******* hate when I get missinformation

So Loki, any updates on eta. or $$ yet? Even if only remotely close.

On a sidenote, if this works out for us, anyone interested in maybe a mega groupbuy or 3.308 ring and pinions?

I know shops with CNC lathes. the hard part is giving them a drawing/cad model.

Not really... Once fedex finds my ******* diff I'll likely start a new thread about that. But I'm willing to bet I can make a ring/pinion set for a bit less that what you can import them for You just have to know the right shops.

the machines will do their thing, i's a matter of being able to get the right measurements and whatnot, once you have the "profile" (i guess) all you have to do is find a shop with the tools to make them to our specs...I mean I figure it would be harder then the gears just by looking at the two, but I think it could still be doneif we had the right people on it.
If I had the means/knowledge/resources/etc. to come up with the figures I'd do it in a heartbeat, this as well is something everyone can benefit greatly from...common, we are a tight bunch for crying out loud, lol
