Round stock would definitely help on the OD of the outer, as it is just round, thus cheaper to turn the OD as opposed to wire EDM. Because it is flat and only .003" less than nominal, I think it will be a tossup.

Looking at the picture they provide there are no recesses going into the flat sections on the inner gear. It might be something for us to consider. Removing that space

 

You are talking about the 2 flat sections on the inner that lock into the crank right? I see the recess on the miataroadster ones also...

They look identical to the CAD.

the recesses are there. and probably needed so you dont end up with the crank interfering with whatever corner you have at the intersection of the flat and radius.

In the early 80s ford used Teflon timing gears on their 2.8 liter Carb'd V6 for the Ranger / Bronco II... Guess what failed on a regular basis?

Teflon isn't nearly strong enough to be a differential gear.. Teflon coating, maybe.

 

I'll make a version of the gear for you with that change but try it on your own before rolling into "production".

Not really... Once fedex finds my ******* diff I'll likely start a new thread about that. But I'm willing to bet I can make a ring/pinion set for a bit less that what you can import them for You just have to know the right shops.

 

the machines will do their thing, i's a matter of being able to get the right measurements and whatnot, once you have the "profile" (i guess) all you have to do is find a shop with the tools to make them to our specs...I mean I figure it would be harder then the gears just by looking at the two, but I think it could still be doneif we had the right people on it.
If I had the means/knowledge/resources/etc. to come up with the figures I'd do it in a heartbeat, this as well is something everyone can benefit greatly from...common, we are a tight bunch for crying out loud, lol

 

what Cad program are you using

I run autodesk inventor on my computer
