No thats not it, not even close. It's all in the shielding gas. Without shielding gas the metal will oxidize rapidly before it has time to cool. This causes the welds to become porous and weak.

As far as the sch40 question, sch40 is nothing but a measurement of pipe THICKNESS, nothing to do with ID.

Ok lets pretend that your right *your not but ok*

I would make the argument that with fluxcore you're are not injecting cold temperatures (the gas shield onto the weld) and that you can maintain hotter tempers and therefore better penetration. If you are getting pitting in the welds its a user error.

WTF do you think we have been doing??

Just about everyone that posted in the thread gave him props. It just happened to turn into a technical discussion on welding as well. God forbid we talk about something technical....

lol... I wonder why this never came up in all the other DIY welding threads.

As far as my welder, it's a Hobart that can be converted to gas shield, so later as my budget allows, I'll do that. But for now it is what it is, and does a good job. I'll most likely just wait until I get my own house instead of having to go over to my folk's house so I can wire the garage 240v and get a more robust welder (and a better compressor too).

He is the OP,

and for the record hes right on. If the manifold fails at a weld i would put money on it not being the welds fault.
