Default the y8s one-car dyno day.

just got back--ok just got showered after getting back--from the dyno.

Went to Classic GT Motorsports. The guys there are awesome. laid back, not jerks. very cool. highly reccommended A++++ as they say on ebay.

When all was said and done, I picked up about 13 peak hp at 9 psi bringing me to 257 rwhp. (I did before and after runs) Not bad I think. Keep in mind this is a dyno dynamics with correction factors and a +9% adder to make it comparable to a dynojet.

My gains were mostly above 5000 rpm. Instead of the power trailing off at high rpm, it climbs a little bit more.

And the interesting part? FM's default hydra maps are pretty well tuned. I tried adding 2 degrees of spark across the power band and saw no gains. removed two (from the base) and saw losses. I ended up pulling a degree or two up top to prevent what appeared to be a mild ping but otherwise it was solid.

Also monkeyed with the VVT some. I didn't get to try a full on / full off pull with it because I was there over two hours by that time, but it looks like it's pretty well dialed where I have it. Jeremy showed me the map from the last car they did and I applied some of the VVT changes he made to my map and it seemed ok. Basically advancing 5 degrees from full retard below the torque peak. Seemed to make about a 5% difference in the low-mid range.

Retarding timing 4 degrees to improve turbo spool did nothing... unless FM's map had that taken care of already.

And the important part... GRAPHS!!

BLUE=BEFORE, RED=AFTER

ScottBrain will post up my pictures and video. Glowing manifolds rule.

Matt

So if you didn't tune VVT nor spark, what gave you the gains? AFR? Or more boost?

driving impressions? i would think it runs smoother now.

your power curves and peaks are pretty simillar to mine. interesting, as our set ups are completely different.

I believe he retarded the timing 1 point as the turbo spools, he also tuned his fuel...just getting everythign in order can really do a number...i was suprusied by the gain, boost wasn't touched one bit.

Can't wait till I can go back there..

I'm seriously never going to a dynojet again. Plus this place was less expensive than most of the dynojets around!

a basline is fun, however, all stock miatas are within a few points of each other, that $70-100 could fund something cooler.

Makes me miss my car. Not that it is as badass, but 4 months with no miata sucks. Impressive numbers man. Is there more boost in your future or have you found a good place you want to stay?

tried to respond on my phone but it didn't work out.

so I forgot to mention that I did advance timing 2 degrees across the board up to about 6500 rpm. beyond that there were no gains. I tried the retard to spool trick and it did nothing for me.

As for AFR, it probably just smoothed out without changing the readings much.

it was interesting that it changed so much without many map alterations. I verified that the TPS was at 100% for both runs too

Yeah that's bizzare. we're within like 25 ft-lbs/hp in the spool-up zone.

course you're running 14 psi to my 9, but it's interesting none the less.

you're on the stock greddy turbo?

Y8s,
Did you post the default hydra timing map or your map somewhere?

93 octane?

Thanks,
Frank
