Anybody ever debate engine mounts? I currently have Megan's but they are not cutting it.

AWR's seem like the right choice but I have seen the Innovatives also. What is everyone's opinion?

 

 

FWIW - I have had the AWR mounts on my car for years. They get the job done in my opinion.

 

Just get the AWR with the softest duro bushings they offer.

 

I've tried both, and both are good, just run the softest option they have for either. Unless you want to turn your car into a giant vibrator

 

I like the Innovative mounts. The 60A bushings are quite streetable. I bought them for my TT6 race car, because the BFW race mounts I had installed were just too freaking stiff, even for a race car. They were exciting the entire freaking car. Everything rattled and vibrated and I was having issues with random things loosening up. Like WTF I suddenly can't go over 40mph at part throttle because the car is misfiring horrifically. Oh, all the bolts for the coil packs have vibrated loose and they're rattling around...
I get none of that with the Innovative 60A mounts, which feel pretty close to stock as far as NVH. Who would have thought engine mounts to be a reliability mod.
The only downside is that they don't control the engine enough for my taste and the shifter does move around some. So I'll be swapping to stiffer bushings this winter to see if I can find a sweet spot between shifter movement and vibration.

 

I traded BFW Street mounts for Innovative. I couldn't stand the vibration of the BFWs, someone else wanted better control of the engine movement. When I first sat in the car with Innovative mounts, I couldn't believe they were poly based on my experience with BFW. The difference is that extreme.

 

I have the SuperMiata hybrid mounts - they use 1 of their race mounts with a 70 duro bushing, and the other side is a MazdaSpeed competition mount. They greatly improved the shift feel compared to stock. The NVH isn't terrible, but it is noticeable, especially at low speeds/idle. It's fine for a street driven car but might get annoying for if you daily with the top up.

Does anyone have experience with the SM hybrid mounts vs their race mounts, or Innovative, or AWR for street applications?

 

I've had the AWR 70 duro mounts installed for quite a while now. I would personally never go stiffer than this setup. NVH is at the edge of acceptability for me, even for a track toy.

 

My experience with both the BBFW and the V8R mounts is that they're completely unusable.
I have 70A AWRs in the not-street car, and Innovative 60A in the street car. Both are great for their purposes.

 

Explain unusable, I have had the V8R cadillac mounts for some time and am happy with them. Enlighten me please.

 

From what i've gathered in the over 10 years i've been a member of this community is that if you do not have a perfectly balanced rotating assembly you're going to want the softest, most well engineered, and expensive mounts you can buy.

I have also learned this from experience. Instead of spending $300 on engine mounts, i spent $60 on engine mounts and $1000 on balancing my built engine.

 

My v8r Cadillac mounts are unusable. I am on clevis set #2 and it's not a great design.

 

I've been through the equivalent of 4.5 sets to find that they transmit huge vibrations because the sleeve is undersized for the bushing (just like BBFW) and in my case, the bushing cage was interference fit against the clevis base. Both of these together means the bushing does nothing and you may as well have solid steel mounts. Really horrid.

 

I have tried AWR, hybrid, mazdacomp, bbfw and the innovative mounts seem to control the engine just as well but have the best NVH other than the mazdacomps that tear every season. Innovative are worth every penny. Get the softest still rated for your power.
I had them on my 1.6 and I ordered another set for my VVT motor since I can't imagine going back. NVH might even be as low as the mazdacomps, and it's 100% better than the hybrid setup. Make sure to do the diff mounts at the same time so the PPF isn't getting twisted as much by power.
