Started working at a new shop doing production work. Getting some practice on the new machine, dialing it in to get my amperage and gas flow right. Practicing getting my beads closer together, without pulse, just dip dip dip after seeing some aerospace welders do it like that. They explained to me that it keeps you from having to put as much heat down if you dip more often but with less filler. I also like the look I must say.
Attachment 185164 Attachment 185165 Attachment 185166 These are a slip fit, so I just washed the edge over. No pulse, just side to side. Attachment 185167 Attachment 185168 Here's a repair job on a marine exhaust I did.. What a bitch. Has to hold 20 psi internally, so it has to be oressure tested as you put it together. Inside tubes were leaking, and there wasn't enough time before the race to make new ones. For those of you Who don't know, marine exhaust are within another set of tubes, with water circulating for cooling. Attachment 185169 Attachment 185170 Attachment 185171 Attachment 185172 |

im a bit drujnk, but i made a drunk mangs switch start panel . Consists of two off/on light up swithcs, and a momentary toggle.
I thik itts going into the bronco. This might be the saddest thing in this thread but im kwl onwing it https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...e-dscn0314-jpg eww my corner of that keybard, I never touch that area. I need to clean that. done. |
I particularly like the "creative" spacing/height

Hey, nothing wrong with shit that works. The only thing that I would have done differently is the labeling. Eject, rockets, and dome light could potentially confuse thieves.

Also, if those are Pico switches they have a 50% chance of failing (I know, I bought 6 from summit and 3 have failed after flicking them <10 times. The housing design is Chinatastic). |
All finished, used another of my custom machined AIT bungs, I was so sick of not being able to purchase nice quality bungs made with high quality SS, so I had a run made by a local old time machinist :)

but we need more pictures:giggle: I am curious about the dimples at the end. Are they to stop the hose coming off? |

The bumps at the small end are for my pleasure, at the big end they are for hustlers mums pleasure.
Sorry about the fucktonne of photos, fair call. Yes the dimples are for hose clamps, I wish I had a bead roller capable of doing 1.6mm stainless, but alas thats another 600 dollars away (and fuck me I have a workshop, but no hoist, and I've been here 2 months already!). Dann |
Dann, you should be able to buy those fittings pretty easy.
Go to a good stainless supplier that does food grade stuff and ask for sanitary npt fittings in the size you need. they should be a stocked item and about $4 each. I just used a few of those on a kegerator tank for a lowrider that i worked on. |

What Leafy said, we all earn like 100k/year here so everything is fucking expensive as fuck.

I want to rub it against my genitals.

Stainless charge piping? Isnt that both heavy and expensive?
|
heavier yes.
Its only marginally more expensive as a material. it takes a lot longer to work compared to aluminum though so fab prices are higher. |

stainless is also quieter than cheapy aluminum

Stainless is just as easy to work with IMO, because the time you spend cutting and drilling it you save in not cleaning and preparing it for welding.
The main upside is that its tough, the threads are tough, prep is easy and it looks really fantastic. And you can get .8mm SS bends and tube also if you want (the ICV tube is .8 or .6) and there is no weight penalty. Dann |

I guess its almost the same material costs if you're not buying the CX-Racing crappy bends and are getting like vibrant quality or better aluminum bends. The only real downside I've found with the twain CX-Racing bends is that occasionally you'll just hit a really thin spot and end up with 1/4" hole before you can get off the pedal.
Once you do a lot of aluminum you get used to playing with the feed speed while you go around and see it widening out. Its the nature of the beast for mandrel bent elbows vs extruded elbows. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5332/9...e39758c0_c.jpg HellaFab Turbo GXP intercooler kit by HellaFab, on Flickr |
I can not for the love of god get my machine to weld aluminum well.
I'm honestly almost starting to think it's a machine issue too. |
Biggest thing is making sure that your tungsten is 100% clean.
Everything else is pie. The weld above-virtually no prep. Cut the pipe with band saw, sand edge of cut with belt sander, weld. Dont use a grinder wheel on aluminum... pounds air into the metal and it comes out when you weld. If you dip the tungsten, you HAVE to clean it and the tube or whatever your welding with a brush. I have tried a multitude of tungsten and the green tungsten and red tungsten would work fine for a second and then randomly just go black and really fuck the weld up. go get some purple e3's if you havent already and you will be good to go. |
Machine settings? I think we're using the same one, or one that's close.
|
120a, 120hz, ac balance around 10 o'clock (cant remember off hand what the number is in that area)
No preflow (but 1s would be better) and as much post as I need to get the tungsten cooled before it shuts off... usually about 10s. Using 1/16" purple e3 tungsten, but a 3/32 would hold up a little better I think. If i mash the pedal and hold it, the tungsten begins to melt... but you dont need that much amperage on this 0.065" wall aluminum for more than a few seconds to get going. |
I'll try it.
Thank you sir. |

Here's something I made to speed things up, and increase quality, since I weld dozens of these fuckers every week. Previously I would go about a 1/6th of the way around, and then I would let the glowing orange bung cool down with the 15 second post flow. At best, I would get a purple color, hardly any blue, never any gold or silver. I've used aluminum to suck the heat out of many header flanges I've welded, so I made this device. U cut the "fins" carefully by hand on the vertical bandsaw, obviously to add surface area. It works so fucking well, I could do the whole sensor in 1 pass in theory (I'm only capable of doing half at once right now), and it never glows any more than any other regular weld when I'm finished.

Lol you guys.
Here's a few welds from my daily routine. 304 ss tube to cold rolled steel flange. Note the nearly perfect silver color (though I like blue personally) Attachment 185106 Yeah blue, much prettier. Attachment 185107 And you all remember my o2 heat sink? Well it's working great Attachment 185108 |

Ok guys, this is my latest project. My old wink panoramic mirror was warping badly from the sun, so I made a new one out of stainless steel. Probably the single nicest thing on my car, sadly...

Hood-riche. I like it.
|
That's pretty trick, though it looks heavy. If I can't get my plastic jobber tucked up tight enough, I may have to steal parts of your idea.
|
Looks strong and functional, great looking welds. Not the first thing I'd choose to fabricate though. Then again my mirror isn't warping.
|
Funny enough it's actually quite light, everything but the little curved sections are 16g tube. I can't imagine it weighs more than 5 lbs with the mirrors in. The wink mirror had a little weight to it as well, so I'm not concerned really.
|
That's awesome, is this for drifting?
Mad anyways, props. Dann |
Just so you can always see behind you without Turing your head. My favorite application is looking up the on ramps on the highway after you have passed them, so you know if you're about to have a cop get on. I can't think of how many tickets I must have avoided..

Starting the manifold and all the piping for both the wastegates etc etc this week.
Apparently the twincam swap, stroker, sleeves, oversized valves, porting, cams, ecu, forged bottom end, and supercharger werent enough. Its a suzuki 4wd.. used to be a 1L single cam carbie. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...12837007_n.jpg Dann |

Giant Pez dispenser magazines.

Not really sure, they're for a produce(food) company. I didn't bring the print home to double check.
I'm pretty sure they're just little holders for something, or some type of tool. A cup if you will. Then they get bolted onto something. It's little piddly crap like this that i make all the time. Nothing really fun. :( |
Whats that orange thing inside the runners?

Its a hose for checking runner length.
